3 P ues me alegré muchísimo cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu verdad, de cómo andas en la verdad.

For I rejoiced greatly, when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth.

4 N o tengo mayor gozo que éste, el oír que mis hijos andan en la verdad. Elogio de la hospitalidad de Gayo

I have no greater joy than this, to hear about my children walking in truth.

5 A mado, fielmente te conduces en lo que haces por los hermanos, y también por los que son forasteros,

Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers.

6 l os cuales han dado ante la iglesia testimonio de tu amor; y harás bien en ayudarles a proseguir su viaje, como es digno de su servicio a Dios.

They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a way worthy of God,

7 P orque ellos salieron por amor del nombre de Él, sin aceptar nada de los gentiles.

because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.

8 N osotros, pues, debemos acoger a tales personas, para que cooperemos en la obra de la verdad. La oposición de Diótrefes

We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

9 Y o he escrito a la iglesia; pero Diótrefes, al cual le gusta tener el primer lugar entre ellos, no nos recibe.

I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.

10 P or esta causa, si voy, recordaré las obras que hace tratando de denigrarnos con palabras malignas; y no contento con estas cosas, no sólo no recibe él mismo a los hermanos, sino que a los que quieren recibirlos se lo prohíbe, y los expulsa de la iglesia. Buen testimonio acerca de Demetrio

Therefore if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, neither does he himself receive the brothers, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.

11 A mado, no imites lo malo, sino lo bueno. El que hace lo bueno es de Dios; pero el que hace lo malo, no ha visto a Dios.

Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.

12 T odos dan testimonio de Demetrio, y aun la verdad misma; y también nosotros damos testimonio, y sabéis que nuestro testimonio es verdadero. Saludos finales

Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.

13 Y o tenía muchas cosas que escribirte, pero no quiero escribírtelas con tinta y pluma,

I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;
