2 C uando los justos dominan, el pueblo se alegra; Mas cuando domina el impío, el pueblo gime.

When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.

3 E l hombre que ama la sabiduría alegra a su padre; Mas el que frecuenta las rameras perderá los bienes.

Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.

4 E l rey afianza su país por medio de la justicia; Mas el que lo carga de impuestos lo destruye.

The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down.

5 E l hombre que lisonjea a su prójimo, Tiende un lazo delante de sus pasos.

A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

6 E n la transgresión del hombre malo, hay lazo; Mas el justo cantará y se alegrará.

An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad.

7 C onoce el justo la causa de los pobres; Mas el impío no entiende sabiduría.

The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked aren’t concerned about knowledge.

8 L os hombres escarnecedores ponen la ciudad en llamas; Mas los sabios calman la ira.

Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.

9 S i el hombre sabio disputa con el necio, Que se enoje o que se ría, no tendrá reposo.

If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace.

10 L os hombres sanguinarios aborrecen al íntegro, Mas los rectos van en busca de su persona.

The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright.

11 E l necio da rienda suelta a toda su ira, Mas el sabio al fin la sosiega.

A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.

12 S i un gobernante hace caso de palabras mentirosas, Todos sus servidores serán impíos.

If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.

13 E l pobre y el opresor se encuentran; Jehová alumbra los ojos de ambos.

The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: Yahweh gives sight to the eyes of both.

14 E l rey que juzga con verdad a los desvalidos, Afianza su trono para siempre.

The king who fairly judges the poor, his throne shall be established forever.

15 L a vara y la corrección dan sabiduría; Mas el muchacho consentido avergonzará a su madre.

The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.

16 C uando los impíos son muchos, mucha es la transgresión; Mas los justos verán la ruina de ellos.

When the wicked increase, sin increases; but the righteous will see their downfall.

17 C orrige a tu hijo, y te dará descanso, Y dará alegría a tu alma.

Correct your son, and he will give you peace; yes, he will bring delight to your soul.

18 S in profecía el pueblo se desenfrena; Mas el que guarda la ley es dichoso.

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed.

19 E l siervo no se corrige con palabras; Porque entiende, mas no hace caso.

A servant can’t be corrected by words. Though he understands, yet he will not respond.

20 ¿ Has visto a un hombre ligero en sus palabras? Más esperanza hay del necio que de él.

Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

21 E l siervo mimado desde la niñez por su amo, A la postre será su heredero.

He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end.

22 E l hombre iracundo levanta contiendas, Y el furioso peca muchas veces.

An angry man stirs up strife, and a wrathful man abounds in sin.

23 L a soberbia del hombre le abate; Pero el humilde de espíritu recibe honores.

A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.

24 E l cómplice del ladrón aborrece su propia alma; Pues oye la imprecación y no lo denuncia.

Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul. He takes an oath, but dares not testify.

25 E l que teme a los hombres caerá en el lazo; Mas el que confía en Jehová será puesto en lugar seguro.

The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.

26 M uchos buscan el favor del príncipe; Mas de Jehová viene el juicio de cada uno.

Many seek the ruler’s favor, but a man’s justice comes from Yahweh.

27 A bominación es a los justos el hombre inicuo; Y abominación es al impío el de caminos rectos.

A dishonest man detests the righteous, and the upright in their ways detest the wicked.
