1 O h Dios, con nuestros oídos hemos oído, nuestros padres nos han contado, La obra que hiciste en sus días, en los tiempos antiguos.

We have heard with our ears, God; our fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the days of old.

2 T ú con tu mano echaste las naciones, y los plantaste a ellos; Afligiste a los pueblos, y los arrojaste.

You drove out the nations with your hand, but you planted them. You afflicted the peoples, but you spread them abroad.

For they didn’t get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to them.

4 E res tú, rey mío y Dios mío, Quien decretabas las victorias de Jacob.

You are my King, God. Command victories for Jacob!

5 C ontigo embestíamos a nuestros enemigos; En tu nombre hollábamos a nuestros adversarios.

Through you, will we push down our adversaries. Through your name, will we tread them under who rise up against us.

6 N o estaba mi confianza en mi arco, Ni mi espada me hizo vencedor;

For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

7 P ues tú mismo nos salvabas de nuestros enemigos, Y cubrías de vergüenza a los que nos aborrecían.

But you have saved us from our adversaries, and have shamed those who hate us.

8 E n Dios nos gloriábamos todo el día, Celebrando para siempre tu nombre. Selah

In God we have made our boast all day long, we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah.

9 P ero nos has desechado, y nos has hecho avergonzarnos, Y no sales con nuestros ejércitos.

But now you rejected us, and brought us to dishonor, and don’t go out with our armies.

10 N os hiciste retroceder delante del enemigo, Y nos saquean a su gusto los que nos aborrecen.

You make us turn back from the adversary. Those who hate us take plunder for themselves.

11 N os entregas como ovejas al matadero, Y nos has esparcido entre las naciones.

You have made us like sheep for food, and have scattered us among the nations.

12 H as vendido a tu pueblo de balde; No exigiste ningún precio.

You sell your people for nothing, and have gained nothing from their sale.

13 N os pones por afrenta de nuestros vecinos, Por escarnio y por burla de los que nos rodean.

You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and a derision to those who are around us.

14 N os pusiste por proverbio entre las naciones; Todos al vernos menean la cabeza.

You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.

15 C ada día mi vergüenza está delante de mí, Y la confusión cubre mi rostro,

All day long my dishonor is before me, and shame covers my face,

16 P or la voz del que me vitupera y deshonra, A la vista del enemigo y del vengativo.

At the taunt of one who reproaches and verbally abuses, because of the enemy and the avenger.

17 T odo esto nos ha sobrevenido, y no nos habíamos olvidado de ti, Ni habíamos faltado a tu pacto.

All this has come on us, yet have we not forgotten you, Neither have we been false to your covenant.

18 N o se ha vuelto atrás nuestro corazón, Ni se han apartado de tus caminos nuestros pasos,

Our heart has not turned back, neither have our steps strayed from your path,

19 P ara que nos quebrantases en el lugar de chacales, Y nos cubrieses con sombra de muerte.

Though you have crushed us in the haunt of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 S i nos hubiésemos olvidado del nombre de nuestro Dios, O alzado nuestras manos hacia un dios ajeno,

If we have forgotten the name of our God, or spread out our hands to a strange god;

21 ¿ No demandaría Dios esto? Porque él conoce los secretos del corazón.

won’t God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.

22 P ero por tu causa nos matan cada día; Somos contados como ovejas para el matadero.

Yes, for your sake we are killed all day long. We are regarded as sheep for the slaughter.

23 D espierta; ¿por qué duermes, Señor? Despierta, no nos deseches para siempre.

Wake up! Why do you sleep, Lord? Arise! Don’t reject us forever.

24 ¿ Por qué escondes tu rostro, Y te olvidas de nuestra aflicción, y de la opresión nuestra?

Why do you hide your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

25 P orque nuestra alma está hundida hasta el polvo, Y nuestro cuerpo está postrado hasta la tierra.

For our soul is bowed down to the dust. Our body clings to the earth.

26 L evántate, ven en nuestra ayuda, Y rescátanos por tu amor.

Rise up to help us. Redeem us for your loving kindness’ sake.
