1 E n cuanto a lo sacrificado a los ídolos, sabemos que todos tenemos conocimiento. El conocimiento envanece, pero el amor edifica.

Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

2 Y si alguno se imagina que sabe algo, aún no ha aprendido nada como se debe conocer.

But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know.

3 P ero si alguno ama a Dios, ha sido conocido por él.

But if anyone loves God, the same is known by him.

4 A cerca, pues, de las viandas que se sacrifican a los ídolos, sabemos que un ídolo nada es en el mundo, y que no hay más que un Dios.

Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

5 P ues aunque haya algunos que se llamen dioses, sea en el cielo, o en la tierra (como hay muchos dioses y muchos señores),

For though there are things that are called “gods”, whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many “gods” and many “lords”;

6 p ara nosotros, sin embargo, sólo hay un Dios, el Padre, del cual proceden todas las cosas, y nosotros somos para él; y un solo Señor, Jesucristo, por medio del cual son todas las cosas, y nosotros por medio de él.

yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.

7 P ero no en todos hay este conocimiento; porque algunos, habituados hasta aquí a los ídolos, comen como sacrificado a ídolos, y su conciencia, siendo débil, se contamina.

However, that knowledge isn’t in all men. But some, with consciousness of the idol until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

8 S i bien la comida no nos hace más aceptos ante Dios; pues ni porque comamos, seremos más, ni porque no comamos, seremos menos.

But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we don’t eat, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.

9 P ero mirad que esta libertad vuestra no venga a ser tropezadero para los débiles.

But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.

10 P orque si alguno te ve a ti, que tienes conocimiento, sentado a la mesa en un lugar de ídolos, la conciencia de aquel que es débil, ¿no será estimulada a comer de lo sacrificado a los ídolos?

For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol’s temple, won’t his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

11 Y por el conocimiento tuyo, se arruina el hermano débil por quien Cristo murió.

And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

12 D e esta manera, pues, pecando contra los hermanos e hiriendo su débil conciencia, pecáis contra Cristo.

Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

13 P or lo cual, si la comida le es a mi hermano ocasión de caer, no comeré carne jamás, para no poner tropiezo a mi hermano.

Therefore if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forever more, that I don’t cause my brother to stumble.
