according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, that you may obey Jesus Christ and be sprinkled with his blood: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

3 B endito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, quien según su gran misericordia, nos hizo renacer para una esperanza viva, mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo de los muertos,

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy became our father again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 p ara una herencia incorruptible, incontaminada e inmarcesible, reservada en los cielos para vosotros,

to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that doesn’t fade away, reserved in Heaven for you,

5 q ue sois guardados por el poder de Dios mediante la fe, para alcanzar la salvación que está preparada para ser revelada en el último tiempo.

who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 E n lo cual vosotros os alegráis, aunque ahora por un poco de tiempo, si es necesario, seáis afligidos en diversas tentaciones,

Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials,

7 p ara que la prueba de vuestra fe, mucho más preciosa que el oro, el cual perece, aunque se prueba con fuego, se halle que resulta en alabanza, gloria y honra en la revelación de Jesucristo,

that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

8 a quien amáis sin haberle visto, en quien creyendo, aunque ahora no lo veáis, os alegráis con gozo inefable y glorioso;

whom not having known you love; in whom, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory—

9 o bteniendo el objetivo de vuestra fe, que es la salvación de vuestras almas.

receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10 A cerca de esta salvación investigaron y averiguaron diligentemente los profetas que profetizaron acerca de la gracia destinada a vosotros,

Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,

11 e scudriñando qué persona y qué tiempo indicaba el Espíritu de Cristo que estaba en ellos, el cual anunciaba de antemano los sufrimientos de Cristo, y las glorias que vendrían tras ellos.

searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.

12 A los cuales fue revelado que no administraban para sí mismos, sino para nosotros, las cosas que ahora os fueron anunciadas mediante los que os han predicado el evangelio por el Espíritu Santo enviado del cielo; cosas a las que anhelan mirar los ángeles. Llamamiento a una vida santa

To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.

13 P or lo cual, estad preparados para la acción, sed sobrios, y esperad por completo en la gracia que se os traerá en la revelación de Jesucristo.

Therefore prepare your minds for action, be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ—

14 C omo hijos obedientes, no os amoldéis a los deseos que antes teníais estando en vuestra ignorancia;

as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,

15 s ino que así como aquel que os llamó es santo, sed también vosotros santos en toda vuestra manera de vivir;

but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior;

16 p ues escrito está: Sed santos, porque yo soy santo.

because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.”

17 Y si invocáis por Padre a aquel que sin acepción de personas juzga según la obra de cada uno, conducíos en temor durante todo el tiempo de vuestra peregrinación;

If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear:

18 s abiendo que fuisteis rescatados de vuestra vana manera de vivir, la cual os fue transmitida por vuestros padres, no con cosas corruptibles, como oro o plata,

knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,

19 s ino con la sangre preciosa de Cristo, como de un cordero sin mancha y sin contaminación,

but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of Christ;

20 y a provisto desde antes de la fundación del mundo, pero manifestado al final de los tiempos por amor de vosotros,

who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of times for your sake,

21 q ue por medio de él creéis en Dios, quien le resucitó de los muertos y le ha dado gloria, de manera que vuestra fe y esperanza sean en Dios.

who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.

22 H abiendo purificado vuestras almas en la obediencia a la verdad, mediante el Espíritu, para un amor fraternal no fingido, amaos unos a otros entrañablemente, de corazón puro;

Seeing you have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth through the Spirit in sincere brotherly affection, love one another from the heart fervently:

23 h abiendo nacido de nuevo, no de simiente corruptible, sino de incorruptible, por medio de la palabra de Dios que vive y permanece para siempre.

having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and remains forever.

24 P orque: Toda carne es como hierba, Y toda la gloria del hombre como flor de la hierba. La hierba se seca, y la flor se cae;

For, “All flesh is like grass, and all of man’s glory like the flower in the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls;

25 M as la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre.

but the Lord’s word endures forever.” This is the word of Good News which was preached to you.
