6 I n this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been put to grief in various trials,
7 s o that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
that the proof of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes even though it is tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ—
8 a nd though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10 A s to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries,
Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
11 s eeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
searching for who or what kind of time the Spirit of Christ, which was in them, pointed to, when he predicted the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that would follow them.
12 I t was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look.
To them it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to you, they ministered these things, which now have been announced to you through those who preached the Good News to you by the Holy Spirit sent out from heaven; which things angels desire to look into.
13 T herefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Therefore prepare your minds for action, be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ—
14 A s obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance,
15 b ut like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior;
16 b ecause it is written, “ You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.”
17 I f you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth;
If you call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judges according to each man’s work, pass the time of your living as foreigners here in reverent fear:
18 k nowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,
19 b ut with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
but with precious blood, as of a faultless and pure lamb, the blood of Christ;
20 F or He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you

21 w ho through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
