When they came near to Jerusalem, to Bethsphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

2 a nd said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here.

and said to them, “Go your way into the village that is opposite you. Immediately as you enter into it, you will find a young donkey tied, on which no one has sat. Untie him, and bring him.

3 I f anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ you say, ‘The Lord has need of it’; and immediately he will send it back here.”

If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs him;’ and immediately he will send him back here.”

4 T hey went away and found a colt tied at the door, outside in the street; and they untied it.

They went away, and found a young donkey tied at the door outside in the open street, and they untied him.

5 S ome of the bystanders were saying to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”

Some of those who stood there asked them, “What are you doing, untying the young donkey?”

6 T hey spoke to them just as Jesus had told them, and they gave them permission.

They said to them just as Jesus had said, and they let them go.

7 T hey brought the colt to Jesus and put their coats on it; and He sat on it.

They brought the young donkey to Jesus, and threw their garments on it, and Jesus sat on it.

8 A nd many spread their coats in the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields.

Many spread their garments on the way, and others were cutting down branches from the trees, and spreading them on the road.

9 T hose who went in front and those who followed were shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;

Those who went in front, and those who followed, cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

10 B lessed is the coming kingdom of our father David; Hosanna in the highest!”

Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

11 J esus entered Jerusalem and came into the temple; and after looking around at everything, He left for Bethany with the twelve, since it was already late.

Jesus entered into the temple in Jerusalem. When he had looked around at everything, it being now evening, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

12 O n the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry.

The next day, when they had come out from Bethany, he was hungry.

13 S eeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.

Seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came to see if perhaps he might find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.

14 H e said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples were listening. Jesus Drives Money Changers from the Temple

Jesus told it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” and his disciples heard it.

15 T hen they came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple and began to drive out those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves;

They came to Jerusalem, and Jesus entered into the temple, and began to throw out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of those who sold the doves.

16 a nd He would not permit anyone to carry merchandise through the temple.

He would not allow anyone to carry a container through the temple.

17 A nd He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written, ‘ My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations ’? But you have made it a robbers ’ den.”

He taught, saying to them, “Isn’t it written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations?’ But you have made it a den of robbers!”

18 T he chief priests and the scribes heard this, and began seeking how to destroy Him; for they were afraid of Him, for the whole crowd was astonished at His teaching.

The chief priests and the scribes heard it, and sought how they might destroy him. For they feared him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.

19 W hen evening came, they would go out of the city.

When evening came, he went out of the city.

20 A s they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up.

As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away from the roots.

21 B eing reminded, Peter said to Him, “ Rabbi, look, the fig tree which You cursed has withered.”

Peter, remembering, said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which you cursed has withered away.”

22 A nd Jesus answered saying to them, “ Have faith in God.

Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God.

23 T ruly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.

For most certainly I tell you, whoever may tell this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and doesn’t doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is happening; he shall have whatever he says.

24 T herefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.

Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them.

25 W henever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions.

Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions.

26 ' > But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions.” ] Jesus’ Authority Questioned

But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.”

27 T hey came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to Him,

They came again to Jerusalem, and as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders came to him,

28 a nd began saying to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?”

and they began saying to him, “By what authority do you do these things? Or who gave you this authority to do these things?”

29 A nd Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question, and you answer Me, and then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

30 W as the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? Answer Me.”

The baptism of John—was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me.”

31 T hey began reasoning among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’

They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we should say, ‘From heaven;’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’

32 B ut shall we say, ‘From men’?”—they were afraid of the people, for everyone considered John to have been a real prophet.

If we should say, ‘From men’”—they feared the people, for all held John to really be a prophet.

33 A nswering Jesus, they said, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Nor will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”

They answered Jesus, “We don’t know.” Jesus said to them, “Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
