1 T hen the Lord said to Moses, “ See, I make you as God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron shall be your prophet.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I have made you as God to Pharaoh; and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.

2 Y ou shall speak all that I command you, and your brother Aaron shall speak to Pharaoh that he let the sons of Israel go out of his land.

You shall speak all that I command you; and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.

3 B ut I will harden Pharaoh’s heart that I may multiply My signs and My wonders in the land of Egypt.

I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

4 W hen Pharaoh does not listen to you, then I will lay My hand on Egypt and bring out My hosts, My people the sons of Israel, from the land of Egypt by great judgments.

But Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I will lay my hand on Egypt, and bring out my armies, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

5 T he Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I stretch out My hand on Egypt and bring out the sons of Israel from their midst.”

The Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I stretch out my hand on Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.”

6 S o Moses and Aaron did it; as the Lord commanded them, thus they did.

Moses and Aaron did so. As Yahweh commanded them, so they did.

7 M oses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three, when they spoke to Pharaoh. Aaron’s Rod Becomes a Serpent

Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

8 N ow the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

9 When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘ Work a miracle,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘ Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’”

“When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Perform a miracle!’ then you shall tell Aaron, ‘Take your rod, and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent.’”

10 S o Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and thus they did just as the Lord had commanded; and Aaron threw his staff down before Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a serpent.

Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, as Yahweh had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

11 T hen Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts.

Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers. They also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same thing with their enchantments.

12 F or each one threw down his staff and they turned into serpents. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.

For they each cast down their rods, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.

13 Y et Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Water Is Turned to Blood

Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he didn’t listen to them; as Yahweh had spoken.

14 T hen the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn. He refuses to let the people go.

15 G o to Pharaoh in the morning as he is going out to the water, and station yourself to meet him on the bank of the Nile; and you shall take in your hand the staff that was turned into a serpent.

Go to Pharaoh in the morning. Behold, he goes out to the water; and you shall stand by the river’s bank to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent you shall take in your hand.

16 Y ou shall say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you, saying, “ Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness. But behold, you have not listened until now.”

You shall tell him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness:” and behold, until now you haven’t listened.

17 T hus says the Lord, “ By this you shall know that I am the Lord: behold, I will strike the water that is in the Nile with the staff that is in my hand, and it will be turned to blood.

Yahweh says, “In this you shall know that I am Yahweh. Behold, I will strike with the rod that is in my hand on the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.

18 T he fish that are in the Nile will die, and the Nile will become foul, and the Egyptians will find difficulty in drinking water from the Nile.”’”

The fish that are in the river shall die, and the river shall become foul; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink water from the river.”’”

19 T hen the Lord said to Moses, “Say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their reservoirs of water, that they may become blood; and there will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”

Yahweh said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your rod, and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’”

20 S o Moses and Aaron did even as the Lord had commanded. And he lifted up the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile, in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, and all the water that was in the Nile was turned to blood.

Moses and Aaron did so, as Yahweh commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

21 T he fish that were in the Nile died, and the Nile became foul, so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile. And the blood was through all the land of Egypt.

The fish that were in the river died; and the river became foul, and the Egyptians couldn’t drink water from the river; and the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.

22 B ut the magicians of Egypt did the same with their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.

The magicians of Egypt did the same thing with their enchantments; and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he didn’t listen to them; as Yahweh had spoken.

23 T hen Pharaoh turned and went into his house with no concern even for this.

Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he didn’t even take this to heart.

24 S o all the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink, for they could not drink of the water of the Nile.

All the Egyptians dug around the river for water to drink; for they couldn’t drink the river water.

25 S even days passed after the Lord had struck the Nile.

Seven days were fulfilled, after Yahweh had struck the river.
