1 D e cierto, de cierto os digo: El que no entra por la puerta en el redil de las ovejas, sino que sube por otra parte, ése es ladrón y salteador.

“Most certainly, I tell you, one who doesn’t enter by the door into the sheep fold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2 M as el que entra por la puerta, es pastor de las ovejas.

But one who enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3 A éste le abre el portero, y las ovejas oyen su voz; y llama a sus propias ovejas por su nombre, y las saca.

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.

4 Y cuando ha sacado fuera todas las propias, va delante de ellas; y las ovejas le siguen, porque conocen su voz.

Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

5 M as al extraño no le seguirán, sino que huirán de él, porque no conocen la voz de los extraños.

They will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him; for they don’t know the voice of strangers.”

6 E sta alegoría les dijo Jesús; pero ellos no comprendieron de qué les estaba hablando. Jesús, el Buen Pastor

Jesus spoke this parable to them, but they didn’t understand what he was telling them.

7 V olvió, pues, Jesús a decirles: De cierto, de cierto os digo: Yo soy la puerta de las ovejas.

Jesus therefore said to them again, “Most certainly, I tell you, I am the sheep’s door.

8 T odos cuantos vinieron antes de mí, son ladrones y salteadores; pero no los oyeron las ovejas.

All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them.

9 Y o soy la puerta; el que entre por medio de mí, será salvo; entrará, y saldrá, y hallará pastos.

I am the door. If anyone enters in by me, he will be saved, and will go in and go out, and will find pasture.

10 E l ladrón no viene sino para hurtar, matar y destruir; yo he venido para que tengan vida, y para que la tengan en abundancia.

The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.

11 Y o soy el buen pastor; el buen pastor da su vida por las ovejas.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

12 M as el asalariado, y que no es el pastor, de quien no son propias las ovejas, ve venir al lobo, y deja las ovejas y huye, y el lobo arrebata las ovejas y las dispersa.

He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who doesn’t own the sheep, sees the wolf coming, leaves the sheep, and flees. The wolf snatches the sheep, and scatters them.

13 A sí que el asalariado huye, porque es asalariado, y no le importan las ovejas.

The hired hand flees because he is a hired hand, and doesn’t care for the sheep.

14 Y o soy el buen pastor; y conozco mis ovejas, y las mías me conocen,

I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I’m known by my own;

15 a sí como el Padre me conoce, y yo conozco al Padre; y pongo mi vida por las ovejas.

even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep.

16 T ambién tengo otras ovejas que no son de este redil; aquéllas también debo traer; y oirán mi voz, y habrá un solo rebaño, y un solo pastor.

I have other sheep, which are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd.

17 P or eso me ama el Padre, porque yo pongo mi vida, para volverla a tomar.

Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.

18 N adie me la quita, sino que yo la pongo de mí mismo. Tengo potestad para ponerla, y tengo potestad para volverla a tomar. Este mandamiento recibí de mi Padre.

No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down by myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. I received this commandment from my Father.”

19 V olvió a haber disensión entre los judíos a causa de estas palabras.

Therefore a division arose again among the Jews because of these words.

20 M uchos de ellos decían: Demonio tiene, y está fuera de sí; ¿por qué le oís?

Many of them said, “He has a demon, and is insane! Why do you listen to him?”

21 D ecían otros: Estas palabras no son de endemoniado. ¿Puede acaso el demonio abrir los ojos de los ciegos? Los judíos rechazan a Jesucristo

Others said, “These are not the sayings of one possessed by a demon. It isn’t possible for a demon to open the eyes of the blind, is it?”

22 S e celebró por entonces la fiesta de la Dedicación en Jerusalén. Era invierno,

It was the Feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem.

23 y Jesús andaba paseando en el templo por el pórtico de Salomón.

It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in Solomon’s porch.

24 Y le rodearon los judíos y le decían: ¿Hasta cuándo nos vas a tener en vilo? Si tú eres el Cristo, dínoslo abiertamente.

The Jews therefore came around him and said to him, “How long will you hold us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

25 J esús les respondió: Os lo he dicho, y no creéis; las obras que yo hago en el nombre de mi Padre, ellas dan testimonio de mí;

Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you don’t believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, these testify about me.

26 p ero vosotros no creéis, porque no sois de mis ovejas, como os he dicho.

But you don’t believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you.

27 M is ovejas oyen mi voz, y yo las conozco, y me siguen,

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

28 y yo les doy vida eterna; y no perecerán jamás, ni nadie las arrebatará de mi mano.

I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

29 M i Padre que me las dio, es mayor que todos, y nadie las puede arrebatar de la mano de mi Padre.

My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

30 Y o y el Padre somos una sola cosa.

I and the Father are one.”

31 E ntonces los judíos volvieron a tomar piedras para apedrearle.

Therefore Jews took up stones again to stone him.

32 J esús les respondió: Muchas buenas obras os he mostrado de mi Padre; ¿por cuál de ellas me vais a apedrear?

Jesus answered them, “I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?”

33 L e respondieron los judíos, diciendo: No te queremos apedrear por ninguna obra buena, sino por la blasfemia; porque tú, siendo hombre, te haces Dios a ti mismo.

The Jews answered him, “We don’t stone you for a good work, but for blasphemy: because you, being a man, make yourself God.”

34 J esús les respondió: ¿No está escrito en vuestra ley: Yo dije, dioses sois?

Jesus answered them, “Isn’t it written in your law, ‘I said, you are gods?’

35 S i llamó dioses a aquellos a quienes vino la palabra de Dios (y la Escritura no puede ser quebrantada),

If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture can’t be broken),

36 ¿ al que el Padre santificó y envió al mundo, vosotros decís: Tú blasfemas, porque dije: Hijo de Dios soy?

do you say of him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God?’

37 S i no hago las obras de mi Padre, no me creáis.

If I don’t do the works of my Father, don’t believe me.

38 M as si las hago, aunque no me creáis a mí, creed a las obras, para que conozcáis y creáis que el Padre está en mí, y yo en el Padre.

But if I do them, though you don’t believe me, believe the works; that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”

39 P rocuraron otra vez prenderle, pero él se salió de sus manos.

They sought again to seize him, and he went out of their hand.

40 Y se fue de nuevo al otro lado del Jordán, al lugar donde primero había estado bautizando Juan; y se quedó allí.

He went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John was baptizing at first, and there he stayed.

41 Y muchos acudieron a él, y decían: Juan, a la verdad, ninguna señal hizo; pero todo lo que Juan dijo de éste, era verdad.

Many came to him. They said, “John indeed did no sign, but everything that John said about this man is true.”

42 Y muchos creyeron en él allí.

Many believed in him there.
