1 A conteció después de algún tiempo, que en los días de la siega del trigo, Sansón fue a visitar a su mujer, llevando un cabrito, y dijo: Quiero entrar al aposento de mi mujer. Mas el padre de ella no le dejó entrar.

But after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife with a young goat. He said, “I will go in to my wife’s room.” But her father wouldn’t allow him to go in.

2 Y le dijo su padre: Me persuadí de que no la amabas, y la di a tu compañero. Mas su hermana menor, ¿no es más hermosa que ella? Tómala, pues, en su lugar.

Her father said, “I most certainly thought that you utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her, instead.”

3 E ntonces le dijo Sansón: Que los filisteos no me acusen esta vez, si les hago perjuicio.

Samson said to them, “This time I will be blameless in the case of the Philistines, when I harm them.”

4 Y fue Sansón y cazó trescientas zorras, y tomó teas, y juntó cola con cola, y puso una tea entre cada dos colas.

Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch in the middle between every two tails.

5 D espués, encendiendo las teas, soltó las zorras en los sembrados de los filisteos, y quemó las mieses amontonadas y en pie, viñas y olivares.

When he had set the torches on fire, he let them go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks and the standing grain, and also the olive groves.

6 Y dijeron los filisteos: ¿Quién hizo esto? Y les contestaron: Sansón, el yerno del timnateo, porque le quitó su mujer y la dio a su compañero. Y vinieron los filisteos y la quemaron a ella y a su padre.

Then the Philistines said, “Who has done this?” They said, “Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife, and given her to his companion.” The Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.

7 E ntonces Sansón les dijo: Ya que así habéis hecho, juro que no pararé hasta haberme vengado de vosotros, y después os dejaré.

Samson said to them, “If you behave like this, surely I will take revenge on you, and after that I will cease.”

8 Y los hirió en cadera y muslo con gran mortandad; y descendió y habitó en la cueva de la peña de Etam. Sansón derrota a los filisteos en Lehi

He struck them hip and thigh with a great slaughter; and he went down and lived in the cave in Etam’s rock.

9 E ntonces los filisteos subieron y acamparon en Judá, y se extendieron por Lehi.

Then the Philistines went up, encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.

10 Y los varones de Judá les dijeron: ¿Por qué habéis subido contra nosotros? Y ellos respondieron: A prender a Sansón hemos subido, para hacerle como él nos ha hecho.

The men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”

11 Y vinieron tres mil hombres de Judá a la cueva de la peña de Etam, y dijeron a Sansón: ¿No sabes tú que los filisteos dominan sobre nosotros? ¿Por qué nos has hecho esto? Y él les respondió: Yo les he hecho como ellos me hicieron.

Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cave in Etam’s rock, and said to Samson, “Don’t you know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” He said to them, “As they did to me, so have I done to them.”

12 E llos entonces le dijeron: Nosotros hemos venido para prenderte y entregarte en manos de los filisteos. Y Sansón les respondió: Juradme que vosotros no me mataréis.

They said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves.”

13 Y ellos le respondieron, diciendo: No; solamente te prenderemos, y te entregaremos en sus manos; mas no te mataremos. Entonces le ataron con dos cuerdas nuevas, y le hicieron venir de la peña.

They spoke to him, saying, “No; but we will bind you securely, and deliver you into their hands; but surely we will not kill you.” They bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.

14 Y así que vino hasta Lehi, los filisteos salieron a su encuentro, lanzando gritos de júbilo; pero el Espíritu de Jehová vino sobre él, y las cuerdas que estaban en sus brazos se volvieron como lino quemado con fuego, y las ataduras se cayeron de sus manos.

When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. Then Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands dropped from off his hands.

15 Y hallando una quijada de asno fresca aún, extendió la mano y la tomó, y mató con ella a mil hombres.

He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, put out his hand, took it, and struck a thousand men with it.

16 E ntonces Sansón dijo: Con la quijada de un asno he derrotado montón sobre montón; Con la quijada de un asno maté a mil hombres.

Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps on heaps; with the jawbone of a donkey I have struck a thousand men.”

17 Y dicho esto tiró la quijada, y llamó a aquel lugar Ramat-lehi.

When he had finished speaking, he threw the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called Ramath Lehi.

18 Y teniendo gran sed, clamó luego a Jehová, y dijo: Tú has dado esta grande salvación por mano de tu siervo; ¿y moriré yo ahora de sed, y caeré en manos de los incircuncisos?

He was very thirsty, and called on Yahweh, and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant; and now shall I die of thirst, and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”

19 E ntonces abrió Dios el hoyo que hay en Lehi; y salió de allí agua, y él bebió, y recobró su espíritu, y se reanimó. Por esto llamó el nombre de aquel lugar, En-hacoré, el cual está en Lehi, hasta hoy.

But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out of it. When he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived. Therefore its name was called En Hakkore, which is in Lehi, to this day.

20 Y juzgó a Israel en los días de los filisteos veinte años.

He judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines.
