1 H abló Jehová a Moisés en los campos de Moab, junto al Jordán frente a Jericó, diciendo:

Yahweh spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,

2 M anda a los hijos de Israel que den a los levitas, de la posesión de su heredad, ciudades en que habiten; también daréis a los levitas los lugares de pasto en los contornos de esas ciudades.

“Command the children of Israel to give to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in. You shall give suburbs for the cities around them to the Levites.

3 Y tendrán ellos las ciudades para habitar, y los contornos de ellas serán para sus animales, para sus ganados y para todas sus bestias.

They shall have the cities to dwell in. Their suburbs shall be for their livestock, and for their possessions, and for all their animals.

4 Y los contornos de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán mil codos alrededor, desde el muro de la ciudad para afuera.

“The suburbs of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward one thousand cubits around it.

5 L uego mediréis fuera de la ciudad al lado del oriente dos mil codos, al lado del sur dos mil codos, al lado del occidente dos mil codos, y al lado del norte dos mil codos, y la ciudad estará en medio; esto tendrán por los ejidos de las ciudades.

You shall measure outside of the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the middle. This shall be the suburbs of their cities.

6 Y de las ciudades que daréis a los levitas, seis ciudades serán de refugio, las cuales daréis para que el homicida se refugie allá; y además de éstas daréis cuarenta y dos ciudades.

“The cities which you shall give to the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the man slayer to flee to. Besides them you shall give forty-two cities.

7 T odas las ciudades que daréis a los levitas serán cuarenta y ocho ciudades con sus ejidos.

All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities together with their suburbs.

8 Y en cuanto a las ciudades que deis de la heredad de los hijos de Israel, de la tribu que tiene mucho tomaréis mucho, y de la que tiene poco tomaréis poco; cada uno dará de sus ciudades a los levitas según la posesión que heredará. Ciudades de refugio

Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many; and from the few you shall take few. Everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give some of his cities to the Levites.”

9 H abló Jehová a Moisés, diciendo:

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

10 H abla a los hijos de Israel, y diles: Cuando hayáis pasado al otro lado del Jordán a la tierra de Canaán,

“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

11 o s señalaréis ciudades que sean para vosotros ciudades de refugio, donde huya el homicida que hiere a alguno de muerte sin intención.

then you shall appoint for yourselves cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the man slayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.

12 Y os serán aquellas ciudades para refugiarse del vengador, y no morirá el homicida hasta que entre en juicio delante de la congregación.

The cities shall be to you for refuge from the avenger, that the man slayer not die, until he stands before the congregation for judgment.

13 D e las ciudades, pues, que daréis, tendréis seis ciudades de refugio.

The cities which you shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.

14 T res ciudades daréis a este lado del Jordán, y tres ciudades daréis en la tierra de Canaán, las cuales serán ciudades de refugio.

You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan. They shall be cities of refuge.

15 E stas seis ciudades serán de refugio para los hijos de Israel, y para el extranjero y el que more entre ellos, para que huya allá cualquiera que hiera de muerte a otro sin intención.

For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the foreigner living among them, shall these six cities be for refuge; that everyone who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.

16 S i con instrumento de hierro lo hiere y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

“‘But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.

17 Y si con piedra en la mano, que pueda dar muerte, lo hiere y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

If he struck him with a stone in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.

18 Y si con instrumento de palo en la mano, que pueda dar muerte, lo hiere y muere, homicida es; el homicida morirá.

Or if he struck him with a weapon of wood in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.

19 E l vengador de la sangre dará por su propia mano muerte al homicida; cuando lo encuentre, él lo matará.

The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death. When he meets him, he shall put him to death.

20 Y si por odio empujó a su prójimo, o echó sobre él alguna cosa por asechanzas, y muere;

If he shoved him out of hatred, or hurled at him, lying in wait, so that he died,

21 o por enemistad lo hirió con su mano, y murió, el heridor morirá; es homicida; el vengador de la sangre matará al homicida cuando lo encuentre.

or in hostility struck him with his hand, so that he died, he who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death, when he meets him.

22 M as si casualmente lo empujó sin enemistades, o echó sobre él cualquier instrumento sin asechanzas,

“‘But if he shoved him suddenly without hostility, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,

23 o bien, sin verlo, hizo caer sobre él alguna piedra que pudo matarlo, y muere, y él no era su enemigo, ni procuraba su mal;

or with any stone, by which a man may die, not seeing him, and cast it on him, so that he died, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm;

24 e ntonces la congregación juzgará entre el que causó la muerte y el vengador de la sangre conforme a estas leyes;

then the congregation shall judge between the striker and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances.

25 y la congregación librará al homicida de mano del vengador de la sangre, y la congregación lo hará volver a su ciudad de refugio, en la cual se había refugiado; y morará en ella hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote, el cual fue ungido con el aceite santo.

The congregation shall deliver the man slayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he had fled. He shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.

26 M as si el homicida sale fuera de los límites de su ciudad de refugio, en la cual se refugió,

“‘But if the man slayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge, where he flees,

27 y el vengador de la sangre le halla fuera del límite de la ciudad de su refugio, y el vengador de la sangre mata al homicida, no se le culpará por ello;

and the avenger of blood finds him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the man slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood,

28 p ues en su ciudad de refugio deberá aquél habitar hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote; y después que haya muerto el sumo sacerdote, el homicida volverá a la tierra de su posesión. Ley sobre los testigos y sobre el rescate

because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest, the man slayer shall return into the land of his possession.

29 E stas cosas os serán por ordenanza de derecho por vuestras edades, dondequiera que habitéis.

“‘These things shall be for a statute and ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

30 C ualquiera que dé muerte a alguno, por dicho de testigos morirá el homicida; mas un solo testigo no hará fe contra una persona para que muera.

“‘Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses; but one witness shall not testify against any person that he die.

31 Y no tomaréis precio por la vida del homicida, porque está condenado a muerte; indefectiblemente morirá.

“‘Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death; but he shall surely be put to death.

32 N i tampoco tomaréis precio del que huyó a su ciudad de refugio, para que vuelva a vivir en su tierra, hasta que muera el sumo sacerdote.

“‘You shall take no ransom for him who is fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33 Y no contaminaréis la tierra donde estéis; porque esta sangre amancillará la tierra, y la tierra no será expiada de la sangre que fue derramada en ella, sino por la sangre del que la derramó.

“‘So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.

34 N o contaminéis, pues, la tierra donde habitáis, en medio de la cual yo habito; porque yo Jehová habito en medio de los hijos de Israel.

You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, in the middle of which I dwell; for I, Yahweh, dwell in the middle of the children of Israel.’”
