Man tue den Gottlosen hinweg vor dem König, so wird sein Thron mit Gerechtigkeit befestigt.

6 D o not honor yourself in front of the king, and do not stand in the place of great men.

Prange nicht vor dem König und tritt nicht an den Ort der Großen.

7 F or it is better to be told, “Come up here,” than to be put down in front of the ruler whom your eyes have seen.

Denn es ist dir besser, daß man zu dir sage: Tritt hier herauf! als daß du vor dem Fürsten erniedrigt wirst, daß es deine Augen sehen müssen.

8 D o not go out in a hurry to argue. Or what will you do in the end, when your neighbor puts you to shame?

Fahre nicht bald heraus, zu zanken; denn was willst du hernach machen, wenn dich dein Nächster beschämt hat?

9 A rgue your side of the problem with your neighbor, but do not tell the secret of another.

Führe deine Sache mit deinem Nächsten, und offenbare nicht eines andern Heimlichkeit,

10 O r he who hears you may put you to shame, and bad things will be said about you forever.

auf daß nicht übel von dir spreche, der es hört, und dein böses Gerücht nimmer ablasse.

11 A word spoken at the right time is like fruit of gold set in silver.

Ein Wort geredet zu seiner Zeit, ist wie goldene Äpfel auf silbernen Schalen.

12 A wise man speaking strong words to a listening ear is like a piece of gold for the ear and a beautiful object of fine gold.

Wer einem Weisen gehorcht, der ihn straft, das ist wie ein goldenes Stirnband und goldenes Halsband.

13 A faithful man who carries news is like the cold of snow at gathering time to those who send him, for he makes the spirit of his owners feel new again.

Wie die Kühle des Schnees zur Zeit der Ernte, so ist ein treuer Bote dem, der ihn gesandt hat, und labt seines Herrn Seele.
