1 M y dear children, I am writing this to you so you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, there is One Who will go between him and the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the One Who is right with God.

Meine Kindlein, solches schreibe ich euch, auf daß ihr nicht sündiget. Und ob jemand sündigt, so haben wir einen Fürsprecher bei dem Vater, Jesum Christum, der gerecht ist.

2 H e paid for our sins with His own blood. He did not pay for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world.

Und derselbe ist die Versöhnung für unsre Sünden, nicht allein aber für die unseren sondern auch für die der ganzen Welt.

3 W e can be sure that we know Him if we obey His teaching.

Und an dem merken wir, daß wir ihn kennen, so wir seine Gebote halten.

4 A nyone who says, “I know Him,” but does not obey His teaching is a liar. There is no truth in him.

Wer da sagt: Ich kenne ihn, und hält seine Gebote nicht, der ist ein Lügner, und in solchem ist keine Wahrheit.

5 B ut whoever obeys His Word has the love of God made perfect in him. This is the way to know if you belong to Christ.

Wer aber sein Wort hält, in solchem ist wahrlich die Liebe Gottes vollkommen. Daran erkennen wir, daß wir in ihm sind.

6 T he one who says he belongs to Christ should live the same kind of life Christ lived.

Wer da sagt, daß er in ihm bleibt, der soll auch wandeln, gleichwie er gewandelt hat.

7 D ear friends, I am not writing a new Law for you to obey. It is an old Law you have had from the beginning. The old Law is the Word that you have heard.

Brüder, ich schreibe euch nicht ein neues Gebot, sondern das alte Gebot, das ihr habt von Anfang gehabt. Das alte Gebot ist das Wort, das ihr von Anfang gehört habt.

8 A nd yet it is a new Law that I am writing to you. It is truth. It was seen in Christ and it is seen in you also. The darkness is passing away and the true Light shines instead.

Wiederum ein neues Gebot schreibe ich euch, das da wahrhaftig ist bei ihm und bei euch; denn die Finsternis vergeht, und das wahre Licht scheint jetzt.

9 W hoever says he is in the light but hates his brother is still in darkness.

Wer da sagt, er sei im Licht, und haßt seinen Bruder, der ist noch in der Finsternis.

10 B ut whoever loves his brother is in the light. And there will be no reason to sin because of him.

Wer seinen Bruder liebt, der bleibt im Licht, und ist kein Ärgernis bei ihm.

11 W hoever hates his brother is not in the light but lives in darkness. He does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes. Do Not Love the World

Wer aber seinen Bruder haßt, der ist in der Finsternis und wandelt in der Finsternis und weiß nicht, wo er hin geht; denn die Finsternis hat seine Augen verblendet.

12 I am writing to you, my children, for your sins have been forgiven because of Christ’s name.

Liebe Kindlein, ich schreibe euch; denn die Sünden sind euch vergeben durch seinen Namen.

13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him Who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have power over the devil. I have written to you, young boys and girls, because you have learned to know the Father.

Ich schreibe euch Vätern; denn ihr kennt den, der von Anfang ist. Ich schreibe euch Jünglingen; denn ihr habt den Bösewicht überwunden.

14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him Who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong. You have kept God’s Word in your hearts. You have power over the devil.

Ich habe euch Kindern geschrieben; denn ihr kennet den Vater. Ich habe euch Vätern geschrieben; denn ihr kennt den, der von Anfang ist. Ich habe euch Jünglingen geschrieben; denn ihr seid stark, und das Wort Gottes bleibt bei euch, und ihr habt den Bösewicht überwunden.

15 D o not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love is not in him.

Habt nicht lieb die Welt noch was in der Welt ist. So jemand die Welt liebhat, in dem ist nicht die Liebe des Vaters.

16 F or everything that is in the world does not come from the Father. The desires of our flesh and the things our eyes see and want and the pride of this life come from the world.

Denn alles, was in der Welt ist: des Fleisches Lust und der Augen Lust und hoffärtiges Leben, ist nicht vom Vater, sondern von der Welt.

17 T he world and all its desires will pass away. But the man who obeys God and does what He wants done will live forever.

Und die Welt vergeht mit ihrer Lust; wer aber den Willen Gottes tut, der bleibt in Ewigkeit.

18 M y children, we are near the end of the world. You have heard that the false-christ is coming. Many false-christs have already come. This is how we know the end of the world is near.

Kinder, es ist die letzte Stunde! Und wie ihr gehört habt, daß der Widerchrist kommt, so sind nun viele Widerchristen geworden; daher erkennen wir, daß die letzte Stunde ist.

19 T hese left us. But they never belonged to us. If they had been a part of us, they would have stayed with us. Because they left, it is known they did not belong to us.

Sie sind von uns ausgegangen, aber sie waren nicht von uns. Denn wo sie von uns gewesen wären, so wären sie ja bei uns geblieben; aber es sollte offenbar werden, daß nicht alle von uns sind.

20 T he Holy Spirit has been given to you and you all know the truth.

Und ihr habt die Salbung von dem, der heilig ist, und wisset alles.

21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth. I have written because you do know the truth and you know that no lie comes from the truth.

Ich habe euch nicht geschrieben, als wüßtet ihr die Wahrheit nicht; sondern ihr wisset sie und wisset, daß keine Lüge aus der Wahrheit kommt.

22 W ho is a liar? He is a person who says that Jesus is not the Christ. The false-christ will have nothing to do with the Father and the Son and he will turn away from Them.

Wer ist ein Lügner, wenn nicht, der da leugnet, daß Jesus der Christus sei? Das ist der Widerchrist, der den Vater und den Sohn leugnet.

23 A person who will have nothing to do with the Son and turns against Him does not have the Father. The one who says he knows the Son has the Father also.

Wer den Sohn leugnet, der hat auch den Vater nicht; wer den Sohn bekennt, der hat auch den Vater.

24 K eep in your heart what you have heard from the beginning. Then you will belong to the Son and to the Father if what you have heard from the beginning is in you.

Was ihr nun gehört habt von Anfang, das bleibe bei euch. So bei euch bleibt, was ihr von Anfang gehört habt, so werdet ihr auch bei dem Sohn und dem Vater bleiben.

25 A nd He has promised us life that lasts forever!

Und das ist die Verheißung, die er uns verheißen hat: das ewige Leben.

26 I have written to you about those who are trying to lead you in the wrong way.

Solches habe ich euch geschrieben von denen, die euch verführen.

27 C hrist gave you the Holy Spirit and He lives in you. You do not need anyone to teach you. The Holy Spirit is able to teach you all things. What He teaches you is truth and not a lie. Live by the help of Christ as the Holy Spirit has taught you.

Und die Salbung, die ihr von ihm empfangen habt, bleibt bei euch, und ihr bedürfet nicht, daß euch jemand lehre; sondern wie euch die Salbung alles lehrt, so ist's wahr und ist keine Lüge, und wie sie euch gelehrt hat, so bleibet bei ihm.

28 A nd now, my children, live by the help of Him. Then when He comes again, we will be glad to see Him and not be ashamed.

Und nun, Kindlein, bleibet bei ihm, auf daß, wenn er offenbart wird, wir Freudigkeit haben und nicht zu Schanden werden vor ihm bei seiner Zukunft.

29 Y ou know that Christ is right with God. Then you should know that everyone who is right with God is a child of His.

So ihr wisset, daß er gerecht ist, so erkennet ihr auch, daß, wer recht tut, der ist von ihm geboren.
