1 T hen all the people took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah.

Da nahm das ganze Volk Juda Usia, der war sechzehn Jahre alt, und machten ihn zum König an seines Vaters Statt,

2 H e built Eloth and returned it to Judah after the king died.

Derselbe baute Eloth und brachte es wieder an Juda, nachdem der König entschlafen war mit seinen Vätern.

3 U zziah was sixteen years old when he became king. And he ruled fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jechiliah of Jerusalem.

Sechzehn Jahre alt war Usia, da er König ward, und regierte zweiundfünfzig Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Jecholja von Jerusalem.

4 U zziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He did all that his father Amaziah had done.

Und er tat, was dem HERRN wohl gefiel, wie sein Vater Amazja getan hatte.

5 H e kept on looking to God in the days of Zechariah, who had special wisdom from God and taught him in the things of God. And as long as he looked to the Lord, God made things go well for him.

Und er suchte Gott, solange Sacharja lebte, der Lehrer in den Gesichten Gottes; und solange er den HERRN suchte, ließ es ihm Gott gelingen.

6 U zziah went out and made war against the Philistines. He broke down the wall of Gath and the wall of Jabneh and the wall of Ashdod. And he built cities in the land of Ashdod and among the Philistines.

Denn er zog aus und stritt wider die Philister und riß nieder die Mauer zu Gath und die Mauer zu Jabne und die Mauer zu Asdod und baute Städte um Asdod und unter den Philistern.

7 G od helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur-baal, and against the Meunites.

Denn Gott half ihm wider die Philister, wider die Araber, die zu Gur-Baal wohnten, und wider die Meuniter.

8 T he Ammonites paid taxes to Uzziah. And his name was known as far as the land of Egypt, for he became very strong.

Und die Ammoniter gaben Usia Geschenke, und er ward berühmt so weit, bis man kommt nach Ägypten; denn er ward immer stärker und stärker.

9 U zziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate, and at the place where the walls joined. And he made them strong.

Und Usia baute Türme zu Jerusalem am Ecktor und am Taltor und am Winkel und befestigte sie.

10 H e built towers in the desert and dug many wells. For he had many animals, both in the valley and in the plain. He also had farmers and vine-keepers in the hill country and in the good growing fields, for he loved farming.

Er baute auch Türme in der Wüste und grub viele Brunnen. Denn er hatte viel Vieh, sowohl in den Auen als auf den Ebenen, auch Ackerleute und Weingärtner an den Bergen und am Karmel; denn er hatte Lust zum Ackerwerk.

11 A nd Uzziah had an army ready for battle. It was divided by the number of names written down by Jeiel the writer and Maaseiah the captain, led by Hananiah, one of the king’s leaders.

Und Usia hatte eine Macht zum Streit, die ins Heer zogen, von Kriegsknechten, in der Zahl gerechnet durch Jeiel, den Schreiber, und Maaseja, den Amtmann, unter der Hand Hananjas aus den Obersten des Königs.

12 T he whole number of the leaders of the family groups of powerful soldiers was 2, 600.

Und die Zahl der Häupter der Vaterhäuser unter den starken Kriegern war zweitausend und sechshundert,

13 U nder their leading was an army of 307, 500, who could fight with great power, to help the king against those who hated them.

und unter ihrer Hand die Heeresmacht dreihunderttausend und siebentausendundfünfhundert, zum Streit geschickt in Heereskraft, zu helfen dem König wider die Feinde.

14 U zziah had battle-coverings, spears, head-coverings, strong battle-clothes, bows, and slings using arrows and large stones made for all the army.

Und Usia schaffte ihnen für das ganze Heer Schilde, Spieße, Helme, Panzer, Bogen und Schleudersteine

15 I n Jerusalem he made large objects of war, planned by able men, to be on the towers and the corners. They were for shooting arrows and big stones. So Uzziah’s name became known in far away places. For he was helped by God in a very special way until he was strong. Uzziah Is Punished because of His Pride

und machte zu Jerusalem kunstvolle Geschütze, die auf den Türmen und Ecken sein sollten, zu schießen mit Pfeilen und großen Steinen. Und sein Name kam weit aus, darum daß ihm wunderbar geholfen ward, bis er mächtig ward.

16 B ut when he became strong, Uzziah’s heart was so proud that his actions were sinful. He was not faithful to the Lord his God, for he went into the Lord’s house to burn special perfume on the altar of special perfume.

Und da er mächtig geworden war, überhob sich sein Herz zu seinem Verderben; denn er vergriff sich an dem HERRN, seinem Gott, und ging in den Tempel des HERRN, zu räuchern auf dem Räucheraltar.

17 T hen Azariah the religious leader went in after him, with eighty religious leaders of the Lord who were men strong in heart.

Aber Asarja, der Priester, ging ihm nach und achtzig Priester des HERRN mit ihm, ansehnliche Leute,

18 T hey went against King Uzziah and said to him, “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn special perfume to the Lord. It should be done by the religious leaders, the sons of Aaron, who are set apart to burn special perfume. Get out of the holy place, for you have not been faithful. You will have no honor from the Lord God.”

und standen wider Usia, den König, und sprachen zu ihm: Es gebührt dir, Usia, nicht, zu räuchern dem HERRN, sondern den Priestern, Aarons Kindern, die zu räuchern geheiligt sind. Gehe heraus aus dem Heiligtum; denn du vergreifst dich, und es wird dir keine Ehre sein vor Gott dem HERRN.

19 T hen Uzziah was angry, and he had a dish in his hand for burning special perfume. While he was angry with the religious leaders, a bad skin disease broke out on his forehead in front of the religious leaders in the Lord’s house, beside the altar of special perfume.

Aber Usia ward zornig und hatte ein Räuchfaß in der Hand. Und da er mit den Priestern zürnte, fuhr der Aussatz aus an seiner Stirn vor den Priestern im Hause des HERRN, vor dem Räucheraltar.

20 A zariah the head religious leader and all the religious leaders looked at him and saw that he had a bad skin disease on his forehead. So they were quick to get him out of there, and he himself left in a hurry because the Lord had punished him.

Und Asarja, der oberste Priester, wandte das Haupt zu ihm und alle Priester, und siehe, da war er aussätzig an seiner Stirn; und sie stießen ihn von dannen. Er eilte auch selbst, herauszugehen; denn seine Plage war vom HERRN.

21 K ing Uzziah had the bad skin disease to the day of his death. He lived in a separate house, suffering with the skin disease, for he was cut off from the house of the Lord. And his son Jotham was over the king’s house, ruling the people of the land.

Also war Usia, der König, aussätzig bis an seinen Tod und wohnte in einem besonderen Hause aussätzig; denn er ward verstoßen vom Hause des HERRN. Jotham aber, sein Sohn, stand des Königs Hause vor und richtete das Volk im Lande.

22 N ow the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first to last, were written by the man of God Isaiah, the son of Amoz.

Was aber mehr von Usia zu sagen ist, beides, das erste und das letzte, hat beschrieben der Prophet Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz.

23 U zziah died, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the grave which belonged to the kings. For they said, “He has a bad skin disease.” And Jotham his son became king in his place.

Und Usia entschlief mit seinen Vätern, und sie begruben ihn bei seinen Vätern im Acker bei dem Begräbnis der Könige; denn sie sprachen: Er ist aussätzig. Und Jotham, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.
