1 H ear this, all you peoples; give ear, all you inhabitants of the world,

(По слав. 48). За първият певец, псалом на Кореевите синове. Слушайте това, всички племена; Внимавайте всички жители на вселената,

2 B oth low and high, rich and poor together:

И ниско поставени и високопоставени, Богати и сиромаси заедно.

3 M y mouth shall speak wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.

Устата ми ще говорят мъдрост, И размишлението на сърцето ми ще бъде за разумни неща;

4 I will submit and consent to a parable or proverb; to the music of a lyre I will unfold my riddle (my problem).

Ще поведа към притча ухото си, Ще изложа на арфа гатанката си.

5 W hy should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of those who would supplant me surrounds me on every side,

Защо да се боя във време на бедствие, Когато ме обкръжи беззаконието до петите?

6 E ven of those who trust in and lean on their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?

От ония, които уповават на имота си, И се хвалят с голямото си богатство,

7 N one of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him—

Ни един от тях не може никак да изкупи брата си, Нито да даде Богу откуп за него.

8 F or the ransom of a life is too costly, and can never suffice—

(Защото толкова скъп е откупът на душата им, Щото всеки трябва да се оставя от това за винаги),

9 S o that he should live on forever and never see the pit (the grave) and corruption.

Та да живее вечно И да не види изтление.

10 F or he sees that even wise men die; the fool and the stupid alike perish and leave their wealth to others.

Защото гледа, бе мъдрите умират, И еднакво с тях погиват безумният и несмисленият, И оставят богатството си на други.

11 T heir inward thought is that their houses will continue forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands their own and after their own names.

Тайната им мисъл е, че домовете им ще траят вечно, И жилищата им из род в род; Наричат земите си със своите си имена.

12 B ut man, with all his honor and pomp, does not remain; he is like the beasts that perish.

Но човекът не пребъдва в чест; Прилича на животните, които загиват.

13 T his is the fate of those who are foolishly confident, yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah!

Това е пътят на безумните; Но пак идещите подир тях човеци одобряват думите им. (Села).

14 L ike sheep they are appointed for Sheol (the place of the dead); death shall be their shepherd. And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their form and beauty shall be consumed, for Sheol shall be their dwelling.

Назначават се като овци за преизподнята; Смъртта ще им бъде овчар; И праведните ще ги обладаят призори; И красотата им ще овехтее, Като остава преизподнята жилище на всеки един от тях.

15 B ut God will redeem me from the power of Sheol (the place of the dead); for He will receive me. Selah!

Но Бог ще изкупи душата ми от силата на преизподнята. Защото ще ме приеме. (Села)

16 B e not afraid when one is made rich, when the wealth and glory of his house are increased;

Не бой се, когато забогатее човек, Когато се умножи славата на дома му;

17 F or when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not descend after him.

Защото, когато умре няма да вземе със себе си нищо, Нито ще мине славата му на друг подир него,

18 T hough while he lives he counts himself happy and prosperous, and though a man gets praise when he does well,

Ако и да е облажавал душата си приживе, И човеците да те хвалят, когато правиш добро на себе си.

19 H e will go to the generation of his fathers, who will nevermore see the light.

Пак ще дойда при рода на бащите си. които никога няма да видят виделина.

20 A man who is held in honor and understands not is like the beasts that perish.

Човек, който е на почит, а не разбира, Прилича на животните, които загиват.
