1 С ын мой, храни мои слова и повеления мои береги.

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

2 С облюдай мои повеления – и будешь жить; храни мое наставление, как зеницу ока твоего.

Keep my commandments, and live; and my teaching, as the apple of thine eye.

3 Н а пальцы его навяжи, напиши на дощечке сердца.

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the tablet of thy heart.

4 С кажи мудрости: «Ты сестра мне» – и назови разум своим близким родственником.

Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister, and call intelligence kinswoman:

5 О ни сохранят тебя от чужой жены, от жены другого с ее обольщающими словами.

that they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger who flattereth with her words.

6 В доме моем я смотрел в окно сквозь решетку оконную.

For at the window of my house, I looked forth through my lattice,

7 Я увидел среди простаков, заметил среди молодых людей неразумного юношу.

and I beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the sons, a young man void of understanding,

8 П роходил он по улице рядом с ее углом, путь держа к ее дому,

passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

9 в сумерки, когда вечерело, и ложилась ночная тьма.

in the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the blackness of night and the darkness.

10 И навстречу ему вышла женщина, как блудница одетая, с сердцем коварным.

And behold, there met him a woman in the attire of a harlot, and subtle of heart.

11 ( Шумна она и упряма, ноги ее не задерживаются дома –

She is clamorous and unmanageable; her feet abide not in her house:

12 т о на улице, то на площадях, то на каждом углу ждет в засаде.)

now without, now in the broadways,—and she lieth in wait at every corner.

13 О на схватила его, поцеловала и сказала с бесстыдным лицом:

And she caught him and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,

14 « Жертвы примирения у меня: я обеты свои сегодня исполнила.

I have peace-offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows:

15 В от я и вышла тебе навстречу; я искала тебя и теперь нашла!

therefore came I forth to meet thee, to seek earnestly thy face, and I have found thee.

16 Я покрыла мою постель разноцветными тканями из Египта.

I have decked my bed with tapestry coverlets of variegated linen from Egypt;

17 Н адушила я ложе мое миррой, алоэ и корицей.

I have perfumed my couch with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 П ойдем, до утра упьемся любовью, натешимся ласками!

Come, let us revel in love until the morning, let us delight ourselves with loves.

19 М ужа нет дома – он отправился в долгий путь.

For the husband is not at home, he is gone a long journey;

20 О н взял с собой кошелек с серебром – не вернется до дня полнолуния».

he hath taken the money-bag with him, he will come home on the day of the full moon.

21 М ножеством убедительных слов она его увлекла, соблазнила его льстивой своей речью.

With her much enticement she beguiled him; with the smoothness of her lips she constrained him.

22 И он тотчас за ней пошел, как вол, что идет на убой, как олень, что к силкам несется,

He went after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, and as stocks for the correction of the fool;

23 п ока печень ему не пронзит стрела. Он как птица, что в сеть стремится и не знает, что там ей – смерть.

till an arrow strike through his liver: as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for its life.

24 И так, сыновья, послушайте меня, внимайте моим словам.

And now, ye sons, hearken unto me, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25 Н е давай сердцу свернуть на пути ее, не блуждай по ее тропам.

Let not thy heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths:

26 П отому что многих повергла она сраженными; многочисленны ее жертвы.

for she hath cast down many wounded, and all slain by her were strong.

27 Д ом ее – путь в мир мертвых, уводящий в покои смерти.

Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.
