1 T hen Job responded,

Allora Giobbe rispose e disse:

2 “ How long will you torment me And crush me with words?

«Fino a quando affliggerete la mia anima e mi opprimerete coi vostri discorsi?

3 “ These ten times you have insulted me; You are not ashamed to wrong me.

Sono già dieci volte che mi schernite e non vi vergognate di offendermi.

4 “ Even if I have truly erred, My error lodges with me.

Anche se fosse vero che ho mancato, il mio errore riguarderebbe me solo.

5 “ If indeed you vaunt yourselves against me And prove my disgrace to me,

Ma se proprio volete insuperbire contro di me rimproverandomi l'oggetto della mia vergogna.

6 K now then that God has wronged me And has closed His net around me. Everything Is against Him

sappiate allora che Dio mi ha trattato ingiustamente e mi ha avvolto nelle sue reti

7 “ Behold, I cry, ‘Violence!’ but I get no answer; I shout for help, but there is no justice.

Ecco, io grido: "Violenza!" ma non ho alcuna risposta; grido per aiuto, ma non c'è giustizia!

8 “ He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass, And He has put darkness on my paths.

Mi ha sbarrato la strada e cosí non posso passare; ha sparso le tenebre sul mio cammino.

9 “ He has stripped my honor from me And removed the crown from my head.

Mi ha spogliato del mio onore e mi ha tolto dal capo la corona.

10 “ He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone; And He has uprooted my hope like a tree.

Mi ha demolito da ogni lato e io me ne vado; ha sradicato come un albero la mia speranza.

11 “ He has also kindled His anger against me And considered me as His enemy.

La sua ira si è accesa contro di me e mi considera come suo nemico,

12 “ His troops come together, And build up their way against me And camp around my tent.

Le sue schiere sono venute tutte insieme e hanno costruito la loro strada contro di me, si sono accampate intorno alla mia tenda.

13 “ He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.

Egli ha allontanato da me i miei fratelli, e i miei conoscenti si sono interamente estraniati da me.

14 “ My relatives have failed, And my intimate friends have forgotten me.

I miei parenti mi hanno abbandonato e i miei intimi amici mi hanno dimenticato.

15 “ Those who live in my house and my maids consider me a stranger. I am a foreigner in their sight.

I miei domestici e le mie serve mi trattano come un estraneo, ai loro occhi sono un forestiero.

16 “ I call to my servant, but he does not answer; I have to implore him with my mouth.

Chiamo il mio servo, ma egli non risponde; devo supplicarlo con la mia bocca.

17 “ My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am loathsome to my own brothers.

Il mio fiato è ripugnante per mia moglie, e sono nauseante ai figli del mio stesso grembo.

18 “ Even young children despise me; I rise up and they speak against me.

Persino i bambini mi disprezzano; e provo ad alzarmi, parlano contro di me.

19 “ All my associates abhor me, And those I love have turned against me.

Tutti gli amici piú intimi mi hanno in orrore, e quelli che amavo si sono rivoltati contro di me.

20 “ My bone clings to my skin and my flesh, And I have escaped only by the skin of my teeth.

Le mie ossa si attaccano alla mia pelle e alla mia carne e non mi è rimasto che la pelle dei denti.

21 “ Pity me, pity me, O you my friends, For the hand of God has struck me.

Pietà di me, pietà di me, almeno voi amici miei, perché la mano di Dio mi ha colpito.

22 “ Why do you persecute me as God does, And are not satisfied with my flesh? Job Says, “My Redeemer Lives”

Perché mi perseguitate come fa Dio e non siete mai sazi della mia carne?

23 “ Oh that my words were written! Oh that they were inscribed in a book!

Oh, se le mie parole fossero scritte oh, se fossero incise in un libro;

24 “ That with an iron stylus and lead They were engraved in the rock forever!

se fossero scolpite per sempre su una roccia con uno stilo di ferro e col piombo!

25 “ As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.

Ma io so che il mio Redentore, vive e che alla fine si leverà sulla terra.

26 “ Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God;

Dopo che questa mia pelle sarà distrutta, nella mia carne vedrò Dio.

27 W hom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!

Lo vedrò io stesso; i miei occhi lo contempleranno, e non un altro. Il mio cuore si strugge dentro di me.

28 “ If you say, ‘How shall we persecute him?’ And ‘ What pretext for a case against him can we find?’

Se dite: "Perché lo perseguitiamo?" quando la radice di questi mali si trova in me,

29 “ Then be afraid of the sword for yourselves, For wrath brings the punishment of the sword, So that you may know there is judgment.”

temete per voi stessi la spada, perché l'ira porta la punizione della spada, affinché sappiate che c'è un giudizio»
