1 E ntonces el pueblo de la tierra tomó a Joacaz hijo de Josías, y lo proclamó rey en lugar de su padre, en Jerusalén.

Then the people of the land took Joahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in place of his father in Jerusalem.

2 J oacaz tenía veintitrés años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén tres meses,

Joahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king. And he ruled for three months in Jerusalem.

3 p ues el rey de Egipto lo quitó del trono de Jerusalén y condenó al país a pagarle tres mil trescientos kilos de plata y treinta y tres kilos de oro,

Then the king of Egypt took Joahaz’s power away at Jerusalem, and made the people of the land pay a tax of silver weighing as much as 100 men, and gold weighing as much as one man.

4 e impuso como rey de Judá y Jerusalén a Eliaquín, hermano de Joacaz, a quien le cambió el nombre y lo llamó Joacín. A Joacaz mismo, Necao lo tomó cautivo y lo llevó a Egipto. Reinado de Joacín

The king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But Neco took Eliakim’s brother Joahaz and brought him to Egypt. Jehoiakim Rules Judah

5 J oacín tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén once años. Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor su Dios.

Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he ruled eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord his God.

6 Y el rey Nabucodonosor de Babilonia lo atacó y lo llevó a Babilonia cautivo y encadenado.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came up against him and tied him with brass chains to take him to Babylon.

7 N abucodonosor también se llevó a Babilonia los utensilios del templo del Señor, y los depositó en su templo, en Babilonia.

Nebuchadnezzar also brought some of the things of the Lord’s house to Babylon and put them in his place of worship there.

8 L os demás hechos de Joacín, y sus repugnantes prácticas, y otras cosas que en él se hallaron, se hallan escritos en el libro de los reyes de Israel y de Judá. En su lugar reinó Joaquín, su hijo. Joaquín es llevado cautivo a Babilonia

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim and the sinful things which he did, and what was found against him, are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. His son Jehoiachin became king in his place. Jehoiachin Rules Judah

9 J oaquín tenía dieciocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén tres meses y diez días. Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor,

Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he ruled in Jerusalem three months and ten days. He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord.

10 a sí que un año después el rey Nabucodonosor mandó por él para que lo llevaran a Babilonia, juntamente con los objetos preciosos del templo del Señor, y como rey de Judá y Jerusalén impuso a Sedequías, hermano de Joaquín. Reinado de Sedequías

In the spring of the year, King Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon with the objects of great worth from the Lord’s house. He made his brother Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem. Zedekiah Rules Judah

11 S edequías tenía veintiún años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén once años.

Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he ruled eleven years in Jerusalem.

12 P ero Sedequías hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor su Dios, y no se humilló delante del profeta Jeremías, que le hablaba de parte del Señor.

He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord his God. He had much pride in front of Jeremiah the man of God who spoke for the Lord.

13 A demás, se rebeló contra Nabucodonosor, al cual había jurado servir, y se empecinó en no volverse de corazón al Señor, el Dios de Israel.

And he turned against King Nebuchadnezzar who had made him make a promise by God. He was strong-willed and made his heart hard against turning to the Lord God of Israel.

14 T ambién, todos los principales sacerdotes y el pueblo aumentaron la iniquidad e imitaron todas las repugnantes prácticas de las naciones, y contaminaron el templo del Señor, que él había santificado en Jerusalén.

Also none of the rulers of the religious leaders and people were faithful. They followed all the sinful things of the nations. And they brought sinful things into the Lord’s house, which the Lord had made holy in Jerusalem. Jerusalem Is Taken

15 E l Señor y Dios de sus padres no dejaba de enviarles su palabra por medio de sus mensajeros, pues amaba a su pueblo y al lugar donde habitaba.

The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent men to speak for Him again and again, because He had loving-pity on His people and on His house.

16 P ero ellos se burlaban de los mensajeros de Dios y de sus profetas, y menospreciaban sus palabras. Finalmente, la ira del Señor se encendió contra su pueblo, y ya no hubo remedio. Cautiverio de Judá

But the people always made fun of the men sent by God. They hated God’s words and laughed at His men who spoke for God, until the Lord was very angry with His people. And there was no way for things to be better.

17 E l Señor lanzó contra ellos al rey de los caldeos, que en el templo de su santuario mató a filo de espada a sus jóvenes, sin perdonar a jóvenes ni doncellas, ni a anciano ni decrépitos, sino que a todos los entregó en sus manos.

So God brought the king of the Babylonians against them, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of God. He had no pity on anyone, young or old, men or women or the sick. He gave them all into the king’s hand.

18 A sí mismo, el rey de Babilonia se llevó a su país todos los utensilios del templo de Dios, grandes y chicos, y los tesoros del templo del Señor y los tesoros del palacio del rey y de sus príncipes.

And he brought to Babylon all the things of the house of God, great and small, and the riches of the Lord’s house, and the riches of the king and of his rulers.

19 S us tropas quemaron el templo de Dios, derribaron la muralla de Jerusalén, prendieron fuego a todos sus palacios, y destruyeron todos sus objetos más preciados.

Then they burned the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem. They burned all of its buildings built for battles, and destroyed all of its objects of great worth.

20 L os que escaparon de morir a filo de espada fueron llevados cautivos a Babilonia, y hasta el reinado de los persas fueron siervos del rey y de sus hijos,

He carried away to Babylon those who had not been killed by the sword. They were made to work for him and his sons until the rule of the nation of Persia.

21 h asta que la tierra disfrutó de reposo. En efecto, la tierra descansó todo el tiempo que estuvo desolada, hasta que se cumplieron los setenta años, en cumplimiento de la palabra del Señor pronunciada por Jeremías. El decreto de Ciro

This was done so the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah came true. For the seventy years that the land was not being used, the Day of Rest was kept. So the Days of Rest were enjoyed that had not been kept before. Cyrus Tells the Jews to Return

22 P ero, para que se cumpliera también la palabra del Señor pronunciada por Jeremías, en el primer año del rey Ciro de Persia el Señor despertó el espíritu de Ciro para que por todo su reino pregonara, de palabra y por escrito, lo siguiente:

The Lord’s word by the mouth of Jeremiah came true in this way also: In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord caused the spirit of King Cyrus to send word to all his nation, and also to write it down, saying,

23 « Así dice Ciro, rey de los persas: El Señor, el Dios de los cielos, me ha dado todos los reinos de la tierra, y me ha ordenado edificarle un templo en Jerusalén, que está en Judá. Si hay entre ustedes alguien que sea de su pueblo, que el Señor su Dios lo acompañe, y vuelva a Jerusalén.»

“King Cyrus of Persia says, ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the nations of the earth. He has chosen me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all His people, may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.’”
