1 E n el año tercero del reinado del rey Belsasar, yo, Daniel, tuve una visión, además de la que antes había tenido.

In the third year that Belshazzar was king, I, Daniel, had another special dream.

2 E n esa visión, vi que estaba yo en las márgenes del río Ulay, en Susa, que es la capital del reino, en la provincia de Elam.

In the dream I looked and saw that I was in the strong city of Susa, in the land of Elam. I saw that I was beside the Ulai River.

3 A l levantar la vista, allí junto al río vi un carnero. Tenía dos cuernos muy largos, aunque uno de ellos era más largo que el otro y le había crecido después.

Then I looked up and saw a ram with two horns standing by the river. The two horns were long, but one was longer than the other. And the longer one came up last.

4 V i también que el carnero embestía con sus cuernos hacia el poniente, el norte y el sur, y que ninguna bestia podía enfrentársele ni librarse de su poder; hacía todo lo que quería, y se ufanaba de ello.

I saw the ram pushing to the west, to the north, and to the south. No other animals could stop him or be saved from his power. He did as he pleased and made himself great.

5 M ientras yo trataba de entender esto, por el lado poniente apareció un macho cabrío, que sin siquiera tocar el suelo se dispuso a atacar toda la tierra. Tenía entre los ojos un cuerno muy prominente.

While I was watching, a male goat came from the west across the whole earth without touching the ground. And the goat had a horn between his eyes that was very easy to see.

6 C uando llegó adonde estaba el carnero de dos cuernos, que yo había visto en la ribera del río, se lanzó contra él con todas sus fuerzas.

He came up to the ram with the two horns, which I had seen standing by the river, and rushed at him in his strong anger.

7 Y o vi cuando llegó hasta el carnero y lo atacó; lo hirió y le quebró sus dos cuernos, y el carnero no tenía fuerzas para hacerle frente, así que lo derribó y lo pisoteó, y no hubo nadie que lo librara de su poder.

I saw him come at the ram in his anger. He hit the ram and broke his two horns to pieces. The ram was not strong enough to fight against him. So the goat threw him to the ground and crushed him under foot. And there was no one to save the ram from his power.

8 Y este macho cabrío se hizo muy poderoso; pero en la cumbre de su poder se le quebró el cuerno más largo, y en su lugar salieron otros cuatro cuernos de gran tamaño, que se lanzaron contra los cuatro vientos del cielo.

Then the male goat became very great. But as soon as he was powerful, the large horn was broken. And four large horns came up in its place, toward the four winds of heaven.

9 D e uno de ellos salió un cuerno pequeño, que creció mucho hacia el sur, hacia el oriente, y hacia la tierra gloriosa.

Out of them came a little horn which grew in power toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land.

10 T an grande llegó a ser que desafió al ejército del cielo, y hasta echó por tierra y pisoteó a parte de ese ejército y de las estrellas.

It grew to be as great as the army of heaven and made some of them fall to the earth, and it crushed them into the ground.

11 I ncluso desafió al príncipe de los ejércitos, y por causa de él se suspendió el sacrificio continuo y se echó por tierra el lugar del santuario.

It thought itself to be as great as the Ruler of the army of heaven. It took away the burnt gifts which were given to Him each day, and destroyed His holy place.

12 P or causa del pecado del pueblo le fue entregado el ejército, junto con el continuo sacrificio; y echó por tierra la verdad, e hizo cuanto quiso, y en todo prosperó.

Because of sin, the army of heaven and the burnt gifts were given over to the horn. It did well in whatever it wanted to do, and truth was thrown to the ground.

13 E ntonces oí que uno de los santos hablaba, y que otro de los santos le preguntaba: «¿Hasta cuándo durará la visión del sacrificio continuo, y el pecado desolador de permitir que el santuario y el ejército sean pisoteados?»

Then I heard a holy one speaking. And another holy one said to the one that spoke, “How long will it take for the things seen in the dream to happen? How long will the burnt gifts be taken, and sin allowed to destroy, so that the holy place and the army of heaven are crushed under foot?”

14 Y aquél dijo: «Hasta que hayan pasado dos mil trescientas tardes y mañanas. Después de eso, el santuario será purificado.»

He said to me, “For 2, 300 evenings and mornings. Then the holy place will be put to use again.” Gabriel Tells the Meaning of the Dream

15 M ientras yo, Daniel, contemplaba esta visión y trataba de entenderla, apareció ante mí alguien con apariencia humana.

When I, Daniel, had seen the special dream, I tried to understand it. Then I saw one standing in front of me who looked like a man.

16 E ntonces, desde las márgenes del río Ulay oí la voz de un hombre que gritaba: «¡Gabriel, explícale a éste la visión!»

And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai River. He called out and said, “Gabriel, help this man to understand the special dream.”

17 G abriel se acercó a mí, lo cual me llenó de temor, así que incliné mi rostro. Pero Gabriel me dijo: «Debes entender, hijo de hombre, que la visión se refiere a los últimos tiempos.»

When he came near the place where I was standing, I was afraid and fell on my face to the ground. But he said to me, “Son of man, understand that the special dream is about the time of the end.”

18 M ientras Gabriel me hablaba, yo me quedé dormido y boca abajo. Pero Gabriel me tocó y me hizo ponerme de pie.

While he was talking to me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face to the ground. But he touched me and made me stand up.

19 E ntonces dijo: «Presta atención, que voy a enseñarte lo que sucederá cuando cese la ira de Dios. Esto es para el tiempo del fin.

He said, “I am going to let you know what the end of God’s anger will be. For the special dream is about the time of the end.

20 T ú viste un carnero con dos cuernos; esos dos cuernos son los reyes de Media y de Persia,

The ram you saw had two horns which are the kings of Media and Persia.

21 y el macho cabrío es el rey de Grecia. El cuerno grande que tenía entre los ojos es el primer rey.

The male goat is the king of Greece, and the large horn between his eyes is the first king.

22 E l cuerno que fue quebrado, y los cuatro cuernos que salieron en su lugar, significa que de esa nación surgirán cuatro reinos, aunque no tan fuertes como ella.

The broken horn and the four horns that grew in its place are the four nations which will come from his nation. But they will not be as powerful.

23 C uando estos reinos lleguen a su fin y los pecadores lleguen al colmo de su maldad, se levantará un rey despótico e intrigante.

In the later part of their rule, when they have become as sinful as they can be, a king will rise to power. This king will be very proud and will understand secret things.

24 L legará a tener mucho poder, pero no por méritos propios, y causará grandes daños, pues actuará de manera arbitraria; será tal su éxito que destruirá a pueblos poderosos y al pueblo de los santos.

He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will destroy much, and do well in whatever he wants done. He will destroy powerful men and the holy people.

25 S us hechos llevarán la marca de la astucia y del engaño; se llenará de soberbia y arteramente destruirá a muchos pueblos, y desafiará al Príncipe de los príncipes. Pero será derrotado, y no por la intervención humana.

He will do well by using his false ways and lies, and will think of himself as great. He will destroy many who are taking it easy. He will even go against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by a human hand.

26 L a visión que tuviste de las tardes y mañanas es verdadera, pero tú debes mantenerla en secreto porque aún falta mucho tiempo.»

The special dream of the evenings and mornings that has been given to you is true. But keep the dream secret, for it has to do with things far into the future.”

27 Y o, Daniel, me quedé sin fuerzas, y durante algún tiempo estuve enfermo. Una vez restablecido, volví a ocuparme de los negocios del rey, aunque me quedé espantado por causa de la visión, pues no la entendía.

I, Daniel, was tired and sick for days. Then I got up again and did the work that the king had given me. But I was filled with wonder because of the special dream, and did not understand it.
