1 A nd it came to pass when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

Когато остаря, Самуил постави синовете си съдии над Израел.

2 A nd the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abijah; they judged in Beer-sheba.

Името на първородния му беше Йоил, а името на втория му син - Авия. Те бяха съдии във Вир-савее.

3 A nd his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted justice.

Но синовете му не ходеха в неговите пътища, те се отклониха и отиваха след сребролюбието. Вземаха подкуп и извръщаха правосъдието.

4 T hen all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel to Ramah,

Тогава всички Израелеви старейшини се събраха, дойдоха при Самуил в Рама и му казаха:

5 a nd said to him, Behold, thou art become old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now appoint us a king to judge us, like all the nations.

Ето, ти остаря, а синовете ти не ходят в твоите пътища. Поставѝ ни цар, който да ни съди, както е при всички народи.

6 A nd the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed to Jehovah.

Обаче Самуил не одобри предложението им: Дай ни цар, който да ни съди. И Самуил се помоли на Господа.

7 A nd Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

А Господ каза на Самуил: Послушай гласа на народа за всичко, което ти казват, защото не отхвърлиха теб, а Мен отхвърлиха, за да не царувам над тях.

8 A ccording to all the deeds that they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

Според всички дела, които са вършили от деня, когато съм ги извел от Египет, чак до днес, като са Ме изоставяли и са служели на други богове, така постъпват и с тебе.

9 A nd now hearken unto their voice; only, testify solemnly unto them, and declare unto them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

Затова сега слушай гласа им, обаче ясно изяви пред тях и им покажи как ще постъпва царят, който ще царува над тях.

10 A nd Samuel spoke all the words of Jehovah to the people that asked of him a king.

И така, Самуил каза всичките Господни думи на народа, който искаше цар от него.

11 A nd he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: he will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, on his chariot and among his horsemen, and they shall run before his chariots;

Каза още: Така ще постъпва царят, който ще се възцари над вас: ще взема синовете ви и ще ги определя за колесниците си, за да му бъдат конници и за да тичат пред колесниците му.

12 a nd that he may appoint for himself captains over thousands, and captains over fifties, and that they may plough his ground, and reap his harvest, and make his instruments of war and instruments of his chariots.

И ще ги назначава за хилядници и петдесетници. Ще ги поставя да работят земята му, да жънат жътвата му и да правят военните му оръжия и прибори за колесниците му.

13 A nd he will take your daughters for perfumers, and cooks, and bakers.

Ще взема и дъщерите ви да варят миро, да готвят и да месят хляб.

14 A nd your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, the best, will he take and give to his servants.

Ще взема по-добрите ви ниви, лозя и маслини и ще ги дава на слугите си.

15 A nd he will take the tenth of your seed and of your vineyards, and give to his chamberlains and to his servants.

Ще взема и десятък от посевите и лозята ви и ще го дава на евнусите си и на слугите си.

16 A nd he will take your bondmen, and your bondwomen, and your comeliest young men, and your asses, and use them for his work.

Ще взема слугите ви, слугините ви, по-добрите момчета и ослите ви и ще ги използва за своите работи.

17 H e will take the tenth of your sheep. And ye shall be his servants.

Ще взема десятък от стадата ви и вие ще му бъдете слуги.

18 A nd ye shall cry out in that day because of your king whom ye have chosen; and Jehovah will not answer you in that day.

В онзи ден ще протестирате поради царя, когото ще сте си избрали; но Господ няма да ви послуша.

19 A nd the people refused to hearken to the voice of Samuel; and they said, No, but there shall be a king over us,

Народът обаче не искаше да послуша Самуиловия глас, а каза: Не! Нека има цар над нас,

20 t hat we also may be like all the nations; and our king shall judge us, and go out before us, and conduct our wars.

за да бъдем и ние, както всички народи. Нашият цар да ни съди и да ни предвожда, и да воюва в боевете ни.

21 A nd Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them in the ears of Jehovah.

И Самуил, като изслуша всички думи на народа, ги повтори пред Господа.

22 A nd Jehovah said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said to the men of Israel, Go ye every man to his city.

А Господ отговори на Самуил: Послушай думите им и им постави цар. Тогава Самуил каза на Израелевите мъже: Идете всеки в града си.
