1 A nd Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken unto all the people, saying,

А Сафатия, Матановият син, Годолия, Пасхоровият син, Юхал, Селемиевият син, и Пасхор, Мелхиевият син, чуха думите, които Йеремия говореше на целия народ, като казваше:

2 T hus saith Jehovah: He that remaineth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goeth forth to the Chaldeans shall live; and he shall have his life for a prey, and shall live.

Така казва Господ: Който остане в този град, ще умре от меч, глад и мор; но който излезе при халдейците, ще остане жив; животът му ще бъде като подарък и ще живее;

3 T hus saith Jehovah: This city shall certainly be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, and he shall take it.

и така казва Господ: Този град непременно ще бъде предаден в ръката на войската на вавилонския цар и той ще го превземе.

4 A nd the princes said unto the king, Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; for why should he weaken the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking to them according to these words? for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.

Тогава тези първенци казаха на царя: Нека бъде умъртвен, молим, този човек, защото разслабва ръцете на военните мъже, които са останали в този град, и ръцете на целия народ, като им говори такива думи; защото този човек не иска доброто на този народ, а злото.

5 A nd king Zedekiah said, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he that can do a thing against you.

Цар Седекия отговори: Ето, в ръката ви е; защото царят не е този, който може да направи нещо против вас.

6 T hen they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the son of Hammelech, which was in the court of the guard, and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

Тогава взеха Йеремия и го хвърлиха в ямата на царския син Мелхия, която беше в двора на стражата; и спуснаха Йеремия с въжета. В ямата нямаше вода, а тиня; и Йеремия затъна в тинята.

7 A nd Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon—now the king was sitting in the gate of Benjamin,

А когато етиопецът Авдемелех, един от евнусите, който беше в царския дворец, чу как били хвърлили Йеремия в ямата (царят седеше тогава във Вениаминовата порта),

8 — and Ebed-melech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying,

Авдемелех излезе от царския дворец и говори на царя:

9 M y lord, O king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to the prophet Jeremiah, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he will die by reason of the famine in the place where he is; for there is no more bread in the city.

Господарю мой, царю, тези хора извършиха зло във всичко, което направиха на пророк Йеремия, когото хвърлиха в ямата; защото той без друго ще умре от глад там, където е, понеже няма вече хляб в града.

10 A nd the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from hence thirty men with thee, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he die.

Тогава царят заповяда на етиопеца Авдемелех: Вземи оттук тридесет човека със себе си и извади пророк Йеремия от ямата, преди да умре.

11 A nd Ebed-melech took the men under his order, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took thence old shreds and worn-out clothes, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.

И така, Авдемелех взе хората със себе си и като влезе в царския дворец, под съкровищницата, взе оттам вехти дрипи и парцали, които спусна с въжета в ямата при Йеремия.

12 A nd Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, Put, I pray, old shreds and rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.

И етиопецът Авдемелех каза на Йеремия: Сложи сега тези вехти дрипи и парцали под мишниците си, под въжетата. Йеремия направи така.

13 A nd they drew up Jeremiah with cords, and brought him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

И така, като изтеглиха Йеремия с въжетата, го извадиха от ямата; и Йеремия остана в двора на стражата.

14 A nd king Zedekiah sent and took the prophet Jeremiah unto him, into the third entry that is in the house of Jehovah; and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing: hide nothing from me.

Тогава цар Седекия прати и доведоха пророк Йеремия при него в третия вход, който е в Господния дом. Царят каза на Йеремия: Ще те попитам нещо; не крий нищо от мен.

15 A nd Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare unto thee, wilt thou not certainly put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, thou wilt not hearken unto me.

А Йеремия отвърна на Седекия: Ако ти го кажа, не е ли така, че непременно ще ме умъртвиш? И ако те съветвам, няма да ме послушаш.

16 A nd king Zedekiah swore secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, Jehovah liveth, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life.

Затова цар Седекия се закле скришно на Йеремия, като каза: Заклевам ти се в живота на Господа, Който е създал душите ни, че няма да те умъртвя, нито ще те предам в ръката на тези хора, които искат живота ти.

17 A nd Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, Thus saith Jehovah the God of hosts, the God of Israel: If thou wilt freely go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thy house.

Тогава Йеремия отвърна на Седекия: Така казва Господ, Бог на Силите, Израелевият Бог: Ако излезеш при първенците на вавилонския цар, тогава животът ти ще бъде опазен и този град няма да бъде изгорен с огън; а и ти ще останеш жив, и домът ти.

18 B ut if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.

Но ако не излезеш при първенците на вавилонския цар, тогава този град ще бъде предаден в ръката на халдейците, които ще го изгорят с огън; и ти няма да избегнеш от ръката им.

19 A nd king Zedekiah said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that have deserted to the Chaldeans, lest they give me over into their hand, and they mock me.

И цар Седекия каза на Йеремия: Аз се боя от юдеите, които забегнаха при халдейците, да не би да ме предадат в ръката им и те да се поругаят с мен.

20 A nd Jeremiah said, They shall not give over. Hearken, I beseech thee, unto the voice of Jehovah, in that which I speak unto thee; so shall it be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live.

А Йеремия отговори: Няма да те предадат. Послушай, моля, Господния глас относно това, което ти говоря; така ще ти бъде добре и животът ти ще бъде опазен.

21 B ut if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word which Jehovah hath shewn me:

Но ако откажеш да излезеш, ето словото, което Господ ми яви:

22 B ehold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's princes; and they shall say, Thy familiar friends have set thee on, and have prevailed over thee; thy feet are sunk in the mire, they are turned away back.

Ето, всички жени, които са останали в двореца на Юдейския цар, ще бъдат изведени при първенците на вавилонския цар; и тези жени ще ти кажат: Твоите приятели те насъскаха и надделяха пред теб; а сега, когато краката ти затънаха в тинята, те се оттеглиха назад.

23 A nd they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand; for thou shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon, and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire.

Всичките ти жени и децата ти ще бъдат изведени при халдейците; и ти няма да избегнеш от ръката им, а ще бъдеш хванат от ръката на вавилонския цар и ще станеш причина този град да бъде изгорен с огън.

24 A nd Zedekiah said unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die.

Тогава Седекия каза на Йеремия: Никой да не се научи за този разговор и ти няма да умреш.

25 A nd if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; and what hath the king said unto thee?

Но ако първенците чуят, че съм говорил с теб, и като дойдат при тебе, ти кажат: Кажи ни сега какво каза ти на царя; не го скривай от нас и няма да те умъртвим; кажи ни също какво каза царят на тебе,

26 t hen thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.

тогава да им отговориш: Аз представих молбата си пред царя, за да не ме върне в къщата на Йонатан, за да умра там.

27 — And all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. And they withdrew quietly from him; for the matter was not reported.

Тогава всички първенци дойдоха при Йеремия и го попитаха; и той им отговори според всички тези думи, които царят му беше заповядал. И така те престанаха да го разпитват; защото това нещо не се узна.

28 A nd Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.

Така Йеремия остана в двора на стражата до деня, когато беше превзет Йерусалим.
