1 É stos son los descendientes de Aarón y de Moisés, de cuando el Señor habló con Moisés en el monte de Sinaí.

Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.

2 É stos son los nombres de los hijos de Aarón: Nadab, el primogénito; Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar.

These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

3 É stos son los hijos de Aarón que fueron ungidos como sacerdotes. Aarón mismo los consagró para ejercer el sacerdocio.

These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests.

4 N adab y Abiú murieron en presencia del Señor cuando en el desierto de Sinaí ofrecieron un fuego extraño delante de él. Como ellos no tuvieron hijos, Eleazar e Itamar ejercieron el sacerdocio en lugar de Aarón, su padre.

But Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered strange fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron.

5 E l Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

6 « Haz que la tribu de Leví se acerque. Diles que se presenten ante el sacerdote Aarón para que le sirvan

“ Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.

7 y desempeñen sus funciones, es decir, que se hagan cargo de toda la congregación delante del tabernáculo de reunión y cumplan con el ministerio del tabernáculo.

They shall perform the duties for him and for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.

8 D iles que cuiden por los hijos de Israel todos los utensilios del tabernáculo de reunión y todo lo relacionado con ellos, y ministren en el servicio del tabernáculo.

They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the duties of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

9 D e entre los hijos de Israel, los levitas quedarán totalmente a las órdenes de Aarón y a sus hijos.

You shall thus give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel.

10 D arás a Aarón y a sus hijos la autoridad para ejercer su sacerdocio. Si alguien ajeno al sacerdocio se acerca a mí, será condenado a muerte.»

So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that they may keep their priesthood, but the layman who comes near shall be put to death.”

11 E l Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:

Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

12 « Como puedes ver, de entre los hijos de Israel yo he tomado a los levitas en lugar de todos los primogénitos israelitas, así que los levitas son míos.

“Now, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine.

13 D e hecho, todo primogénito es mío. Desde el día en que les quité la vida a todos los primogénitos egipcios, consagré para mí a todos los primogénitos en Israel, y son míos, lo mismo hombres que animales. Yo soy el Señor.»

For all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the Lord.”

14 E l Señor habló con Moisés en el desierto de Sinaí, y le dijo:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

15 « Cuenta a todos los varones hijos de Leví mayores de un mes, por familias y según el orden de las familias de sus antepasados.»

“ Number the sons of Levi by their fathers’ households, by their families; every male from a month old and upward you shall number.”

16 M oisés los contó, tal y como le fue ordenado, conforme a la palabra del Señor.

So Moses numbered them according to the word of the Lord, just as he had been commanded.

17 L os hijos de Leví, por sus nombres, fueron: Gersón, Coat y Merari.

These then are the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari.

18 L os hijos de Gersón por sus nombres y familias, fueron: Libni y Simey.

These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei;

19 L os hijos de Coat, por sus familias, fueron: Amirán, Isar, Hebrón y Uziel.

and the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel;

20 L os hijos de Merari, por sus familias, fueron: Mali y Musi. Éstas son las familias de Leví, según las familias de sus antepasados.

and the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’ households.

21 L as familias de Libni y la de Simey eran de la familia de Gersón.

Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimeites; these were the families of the Gershonites.

22 T odos los varones mayores de un mes que fueron contados eran siete mil quinientos en total.

Their numbered men, in the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, even their numbered men were 7, 500.

23 L as familias de Gersón acampaban en el ala occidental, a espaldas del tabernáculo.

The families of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle westward,

24 E l jefe de la tribu de los gersonitas era Eliasaf hijo de Lael.

and the leader of the fathers’ households of the Gershonites was Eliasaph the son of Lael. Duties of the Priests

25 E n el tabernáculo de reunión, los hijos de Gersón estaban a cargo del tabernáculo, de la tienda y su cubierta, de la cortina a la entrada del tabernáculo de reunión,

Now the duties of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting involved the tabernacle and the tent, its covering, and the screen for the doorway of the tent of meeting,

26 d e las cortinas del atrio, y de la cortina a la entrada del atrio, es decir, la que estaba junto al tabernáculo y alrededor del altar, lo mismo que de las cuerdas para todo su servicio.

and the hangings of the court, and the screen for the doorway of the court which is around the tabernacle and the altar, and its cords, according to all the service concerning them.

27 L as familias de los amramitas, izharitas, hebronitas y uzielitas eran de la familia de Coat.

Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites and the family of the Izharites and the family of the Hebronites and the family of the Uzzielites; these were the families of the Kohathites.

28 E l número de todos los varones mayores de un mes era de ocho mil seiscientos, y estaban a cargo de la vigilancia del santuario.

In the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, there were 8, 600, performing the duties of the sanctuary.

29 L as familias de los hijos de Coat acampaban en el ala sur, a un costado del tabernáculo.

The families of the sons of Kohath were to camp on the southward side of the tabernacle,

30 E l jefe de tribu de las familias de Coat era Elisafán hijo de Uziel.

and the leader of the fathers’ households of the Kohathite families was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

31 E llos estaban a cargo del arca, la mesa, el candelero, los altares, los utensilios del santuario con que ministran, y el velo con todo su servicio.

Now their duties involved the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, and the utensils of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the screen, and all the service concerning them;

32 E l jefe principal de los levitas y jefe de los encargados de vigilar el santuario era Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón.

and Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest was the chief of the leaders of Levi, and had the oversight of those who perform the duties of the sanctuary.

33 L as familias de los malitas y musitas eran de las familias de Merari.

Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites; these were the families of Merari.

34 L os varones mayores de un mes que fueron contados, conforme al número de todos ellos, eran seis mil doscientos.

Their numbered men in the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, were 6, 200.

35 E l patriarca de la tribu de Merari era Suriel hijo de Abijaíl. Ellos acampaban en el ala norte, a un costado del tabernáculo.

The leader of the fathers’ households of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They were to camp on the northward side of the tabernacle.

36 L os hijos de Merari tenían a su cargo la custodia de las tablas del tabernáculo, sus barras, sus columnas, sus bases y todos sus enseres, con todo su servicio,

Now the appointed duties of the sons of Merari involved the frames of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its equipment, and the service concerning them,

37 l as columnas que rodeaban el atrio, y sus bases, estacas y cuerdas.

and the pillars around the court with their sockets and their pegs and their cords.

38 M oisés y Aarón y sus hijos acampaban en el ala oriente, delante del tabernáculo de reunión, y tenían a su cargo la vigilancia del santuario en lugar de los hijos de Israel. Si algún extraño se acercaba, era condenado a muerte.

Now those who were to camp before the tabernacle eastward, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, are Moses and Aaron and his sons, performing the duties of the sanctuary for the obligation of the sons of Israel; but the layman coming near was to be put to death.

39 T odos los levitas varones mayores de un mes, que Moisés y Aarón contaron por sus familias, conforme a la palabra del Señor, fueron veintidós mil. Rescate de los primogénitos

All the numbered men of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the command of the Lord by their families, every male from a month old and upward, were 22, 000. Firstborn Redeemed

40 E l Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Cuenta a todos los primogénitos de los hijos de Israel, varones mayores de un mes, por sus nombres.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “ Number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and make a list of their names.

41 T oma para mí a los levitas, en lugar de todos los primogénitos de los hijos de Israel. Toma también a los animales de los levitas, en lugar de todas las primeras crías de los animales de los hijos de Israel. Yo soy el Señor.»

You shall take the Levites for Me, I am the Lord, instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the sons of Israel.”

42 Y Moisés contó a todos los primogénitos de los hijos de Israel, tal y como el Señor se lo había ordenado.

So Moses numbered all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, just as the Lord had commanded him;

43 Y todos los primogénitos varones mayores de un mes, conforme al número de sus nombres, fueron veintidós mil doscientos setenta y tres.

and all the firstborn males by the number of names from a month old and upward, for their numbered men were 22, 273.

44 E l Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

45 « Toma a los levitas en lugar de todos los primogénitos de los hijos de Israel, y a los animales de los levitas en lugar de sus animales. Los levitas son míos. Yo soy el Señor.

“ Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel and the cattle of the Levites. And the Levites shall be Mine; I am the Lord.

46 » Para el rescate de los doscientos setenta y tres primogénitos de los hijos de Israel, que exceden a los levitas,

For the ransom of the 273 of the firstborn of the sons of Israel who are in excess beyond the Levites,

47 t omarás por cabeza cinco monedas de diez gramos de plata cada una, que es el peso oficial del santuario.

you shall take five shekels apiece, per head; you shall take them in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary ( the shekel is twenty gerahs),

48 E se dinero del rescate por los que exceden se lo darás a Aarón y a sus hijos.»

and give the money, the ransom of those who are in excess among them, to Aaron and to his sons.”

49 M oisés tomó el dinero del rescate de los que excedían al número de los redimidos por los levitas,

So Moses took the ransom money from those who were in excess, beyond those ransomed by the Levites;

50 a sí que de los primogénitos de los hijos de Israel recibió un total de mil trescientos sesenta y cinco monedas de plata, de diez gramos cada una, conforme al peso oficial del santuario.

from the firstborn of the sons of Israel he took the money in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary, 1, 365.

51 E sa plata Moisés la entregó a Aarón y a sus hijos, conforme a la palabra del Señor y según lo que el Señor le había ordenado.

Then Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and to his sons, at the command of the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
