1 E l rey fue con Amán al banquete de la reina Ester.

Now the king and Haman came to drink wine with Esther the queen.

2 E n el segundo día, mientras bebían vino, el rey le preguntó a Ester: «¿Cuál es tu petición, reina Ester? Te será concedida. ¿Qué es lo que pides? Aunque pidas la mitad del reino, te será otorgada.»

And the king said to Esther on the second day also as they drank their wine at the banquet, “ What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to half of the kingdom it shall be done.”

3 L a reina Ester respondió: «Si en verdad soy del agrado de Su Majestad, y si a Su Majestad le parece bien, mi petición es que se me conceda la vida de mi pueblo y mi propia vida.

Then Queen Esther replied, “ If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me as my petition, and my people as my request;

4 P orque a mi pueblo y a mí se nos ha vendido. ¡Se nos quiere destruir, matar y exterminar! Si se nos hubiera vendido para ser esclavos y esclavas, me callaría; pero nuestra muerte será para Su Majestad un daño irreparable.»

for we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed and to be annihilated. Now if we had only been sold as slaves, men and women, I would have remained silent, for the trouble would not be commensurate with the annoyance to the king.”

5 C omo respuesta, el rey Asuero le preguntó a la reina Ester: «¿Quién es, y dónde está, el que ha abrigado en su corazón hacer tal cosa?»

Then King Ahasuerus asked Queen Esther, “Who is he, and where is he, who would presume to do thus?”

6 E ster dijo: «El enemigo y adversario es este malvado Amán.» Entonces Amán se trastornó ante el rey y la reina.

Esther said, “ A foe and an enemy is this wicked Haman!” Then Haman became terrified before the king and queen. Haman Is Hanged

7 L leno de ira, el rey se levantó del banquete y se fue al huerto del palacio, mientras que Amán se quedó para suplicarle a la reina Ester que le perdonara la vida, pues se dio cuenta del peligro que corría por el enojo del rey.

The king arose in his anger from drinking wine and went into the palace garden; but Haman stayed to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that harm had been determined against him by the king.

8 C uando el rey volvió del huerto del palacio al aposento del banquete, y vio que Amán estaba recostado sobre el lecho donde estaba Ester, le dijo: «¿Acaso quieres también violar a la reina en mi propia casa?» Al proferir el rey estas palabras, le cubrieron el rostro a Amán.

Now when the king returned from the palace garden into the place where they were drinking wine, Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen with me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

9 E ntonces Jarboná, que era uno de los eunucos del rey, dijo: «En la casa de Amán hay una horca de cincuenta codos de altura. La mandó hacer Amán para colgar a Mardoqueo, que fue quien habló en favor del rey.» Y el rey ordenó: «¡Cuelguen de ella a Amán!»

Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were before the king said, “Behold indeed, the gallows standing at Haman’s house fifty cubits high, which Haman made for Mordecai who spoke good on behalf of the king!” And the king said, “Hang him on it.”

10 Y así Amán fue colgado en la horca que había mandado preparar para Mardoqueo. Con esto, la ira del rey se calmó.

So they hanged Haman on the gallows which he had prepared for Mordecai, and the king’s anger subsided.
