1 S iete meses después, cuando los israelitas ya se habían establecido en sus respectivos pueblos y ciudades, todo el pueblo de Israel fue convocado a una reunión en Jerusalén.

Now when the seventh month came, and the sons of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem.

2 E ntonces Josué hijo de Josadac y sus hermanos sacerdotes, y Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel y sus hermanos, se dispusieron a reconstruir el altar del Dios de Israel para ofrecer holocaustos, como está escrito en la ley de Moisés, hombre de Dios.

Then Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and his brothers arose and built the altar of the God of Israel to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God.

3 C olocaron el altar sobre una base, por temor a los pueblos que los rodeaban, y todos los días, por la mañana y por la tarde, ofrecían holocaustos al Señor.

So they set up the altar on its foundation, for they were terrified because of the peoples of the lands; and they offered burnt offerings on it to the Lord, burnt offerings morning and evening.

4 C elebraron con toda solemnidad la fiesta de las enramadas, como está escrito, y diariamente ofrecían holocaustos al Señor, conforme a cada celebración, y cada cosa en su día,

They celebrated the Feast of Booths, as it is written, and offered the fixed number of burnt offerings daily, according to the ordinance, as each day required;

5 a demás de los holocaustos diarios, las fiestas de luna nueva, y todas las fiestas solemnes del Señor, como también los sacrificios espontáneos y las ofrendas voluntarias para el Señor.

and afterward there was a continual burnt offering, also for the new moons and for all the fixed festivals of the Lord that were consecrated, and from everyone who offered a freewill offering to the Lord.

6 E l pueblo empezó a ofrecer holocaustos desde el primer día del séptimo mes, aunque todavía no se habían echado los cimientos del templo.

From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord, but the foundation of the temple of the Lord had not been laid.

7 L uego contrataron albañiles y carpinteros, y les proveyeron de alimentos, bebidas, y aceite y también transportistas de Sidón y de Tiro para que trajeran por mar, hasta el puerto de Jope, madera de cedro del monte Líbano, conforme a lo ordenado por el rey Ciro de Persia. Colocación de los cimientos del templo

Then they gave money to the masons and carpenters, and food, drink and oil to the Sidonians and to the Tyrians, to bring cedar wood from Lebanon to the sea at Joppa, according to the permission they had from Cyrus king of Persia. Temple Restoration Begun

8 E n el segundo mes del segundo año de haber llegado al templo del Señor en Jerusalén, comenzaron la reconstrucción del templo Zorobabel hijo de Salatiel, Josué hijo de Josadac, sus parientes sacerdotes y levitas, y todo el pueblo que había regresado de la cautividad de Babilonia a Jerusalén. Para supervisar el avance de la obra en el templo, escogieron a los levitas mayores de veinte años.

Now in the second year of their coming to the house of God at Jerusalem in the second month, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak and the rest of their brothers the priests and the Levites, and all who came from the captivity to Jerusalem, began the work and appointed the Levites from twenty years and older to oversee the work of the house of the Lord.

9 E n la supervisión también tomaron parte Josué y sus hijos y parientes, Cadmiel y sus hijos, todos ellos descendientes de Judá, más los hijos y parientes de Henadad, que eran levitas. Todos ellos supervisaban cuidadosamente el avance de la reconstrucción del templo del Señor.

Then Jeshua with his sons and brothers stood united with Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah and the sons of Henadad with their sons and brothers the Levites, to oversee the workmen in the temple of God.

10 M ientras los albañiles echaban los cimientos del templo, llegaban los sacerdotes con sus vestiduras y sus trompetas, y los levitas descendientes de Asaf con sus platillos de bronce, y alababan al Señor, según lo había ordenado el rey David de Israel.

Now when the builders had laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord according to the directions of King David of Israel.

11 Y entonaban alabanzas de gratitud al Señor, y decían: «Dios es bueno, y su misericordia por Israel es eterna». Y todo el pueblo unánime alababa a Dios con júbilo al ver cómo se echaban los cimientos del templo del Señor.

They sang, praising and giving thanks to the Lord, saying, “ For He is good, for His lovingkindness is upon Israel forever.” And all the people shouted with a great shout when they praised the Lord because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

12 M uchos sacerdotes y levitas, y jefes de familias ya ancianos, que habían conocido el primer templo, lloraban a voz en cuello al ver cómo se echaban los cimientos del templo, mientras otros gritaban de alegría.

Yet many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ households, the old men who had seen the first temple, wept with a loud voice when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, while many shouted aloud for joy,

13 E ra tan fuerte el rumor que se escuchaba desde lejos, que la gente no podía distinguir el llanto de los gritos de alegría.

so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the shout of joy from the sound of the weeping of the people, for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the sound was heard far away.
