1 E stimado Teófilo, en mi primer tratado hablé acerca de todo lo que Jesús comenzó a hacer y a enseñar,

The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach,

2 h asta el día en que fue recibido en el cielo, después de que por medio del Espíritu Santo, les dio mandamientos a los apóstoles que había escogido.

until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.

3 D espués de su muerte, se les presentó vivo y, con muchas pruebas que no admiten duda, se les apareció durante cuarenta días y les habló acerca del reino de Dios.

To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.

4 M ientras estaban juntos, les mandó que no se fueran de Jerusalén, sino que les dijo: «Esperen la promesa del Padre, la cual ustedes oyeron de mí.

Gathering them together, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me;

5 C omo saben, Juan bautizó con agua, pero dentro de algunos días ustedes serán bautizados con el Espíritu Santo.» La ascensión

for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

6 E ntonces los que estaban reunidos con él le preguntaron: «Señor, ¿vas a devolverle a Israel el reino en este tiempo?»

So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, “Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?”

7 Y él les respondió: «No les toca a ustedes saber el tiempo ni el momento, que son del dominio del Padre.

He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;

8 P ero cuando venga sobre ustedes el Espíritu Santo recibirán poder, y serán mis testigos en Jerusalén, en Judea, en Samaria, y hasta lo último de la tierra.»

but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” The Ascension

9 D espués de haber dicho esto, ellos lo vieron elevarse y ser recibido por una nube, que lo ocultó de sus ojos.

And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

10 M ientras miraban al cielo y veían cómo él se alejaba, dos varones vestidos de blanco se pusieron junto a ellos

And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them.

11 y les dijeron: «Varones galileos, ¿por qué están mirando al cielo? Este mismo Jesús, que ustedes han visto irse al cielo, vendrá de la misma manera que lo vieron desaparecer.» Elección del sucesor de Judas

They also said, “ Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.” The Upper Room

12 E ntonces los apóstoles volvieron a Jerusalén desde el monte del Olivar, que dista de Jerusalén poco más de un kilómetro.

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away.

13 C uando llegaron a Jerusalén, subieron al aposento alto, donde se hallaban Pedro, Jacobo, Juan, Andrés, Felipe, Tomás, Bartolomé, Mateo, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas, el hermano de Jacobo.

When they had entered the city, they went up to the upper room where they were staying; that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James.

14 T odos ellos oraban y rogaban a Dios continuamente, en unión de las mujeres, de María la madre de Jesús, y de sus hermanos.

These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

15 U no de esos días Pedro se puso de pie, en medio de los hermanos (que estaban reunidos y eran como ciento veinte), y dijo:

At this time Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren (a gathering of about one hundred and twenty persons was there together), and said,

16 « Hermanos míos, tenía que cumplirse la Escritura, donde por boca de David se dice que el Espíritu Santo habló acerca de Judas, el que guió a los que prendieron a Jesús.

“Brethren, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.

17 N osotros lo considerábamos como uno de los nuestros, porque era parte de este ministerio.

For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.”

18 C on lo que le pagaron por su iniquidad, Judas compró un campo; pero se cayó de cabeza y su cuerpo se reventó por la mitad, y todas sus entrañas se derramaron.

(Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.

19 C omo esto lo supieron todos los habitantes de Jerusalén, aquel campo se llama Acéldama, que en su lengua quiere decir “Campo de sangre”.

And it became known to all who were living in Jerusalem; so that in their own language that field was called Hakeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

20 E n el libro de los Salmos está escrito: »Que su habitación quede desierta; que nadie viva allí, y que otro tome su oficio.

“For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘ Let his homestead be made desolate, And let no one dwell in it ’; and, ‘ Let another man take his office.’

21 » Se hace necesario que, de aquellos que nos acompañaron todo el tiempo en que el Señor Jesús estuvo entre nosotros,

Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us—

22 d esde que Juan bautizaba hasta el día en que el Señor subió al cielo, uno de ellos se nos una para ser testigo de su resurrección.»

beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us—one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

23 E ntonces señalaron a José, llamado Barsabás, que tenía por sobrenombre «el Justo», y a Matías.

So they put forward two men, Joseph called Barsabbas (who was also called Justus), and Matthias.

24 Y en su oración dijeron: «Señor, tú conoces todos los corazones. Muéstranos a cuál de los dos has escogido,

And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen

25 p ara que tome la parte de este ministerio y apostolado, de la que Judas cayó por su transgresión para irse a donde le correspondía.»

to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.”

26 Y lo echaron a la suerte, y ésta recayó en Matías. Y a partir de entonces fue contado entre los once apóstoles.

And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles.
