1 P ero David tenía un presentimiento. Y pensaba: «Un día, Saúl me va a matar. Lo que más me conviene es huir a la tierra de los filisteos. Así Saúl se olvidará de mí, y dejará de perseguirme por todo Israel, y me pondré a salvo de él.»

Then David said to himself, “Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape into the land of the Philistines. Saul then will despair of searching for me anymore in all the territory of Israel, and I will escape from his hand.”

2 E ntonces fue a ponerse al servicio de Aquis hijo de Maoc, que era rey de Gat, y los seiscientos hombres que andaban con él lo siguieron.

So David arose and crossed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

3 A sí fue como David y sus hombres se quedaron a vivir con Aquis, en Gat, junto con sus familias. Además, David se llevó a sus dos mujeres, es decir, a Ajinoán la jezreelita y a Abigaíl, la que había sido mujer de Nabal, el de Carmel.

And David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, each with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s widow.

4 Y cuando Saúl supo que David se encontraba en Gat, dejó de perseguirlo.

Now it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, so he no longer searched for him.

5 L uego, David fue a decirle a Aquis: «Si soy digno de tu bondad, permíteme vivir con mi familia en alguna de tus aldeas. No creo que esté bien que este siervo tuyo viva en la ciudad del rey.»

Then David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your sight, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may live there; for why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”

6 A quis accedió y le dio Siclag, que desde entonces perteneció a los reyes de Judá.

So Achish gave him Ziklag that day; therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.

7 Y David vivió en tierra de filisteos durante un año y cuatro meses.

The number of days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.

8 D avid y sus hombres hacían incursiones en tierras de los gesuritas, gezritas y amalecitas, los cuales ocupaban esas tierras desde hacía mucho tiempo. Esas tierras se extendían hacia la región de Shur y hasta Egipto.

Now David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites and the Girzites and the Amalekites; for they were the inhabitants of the land from ancient times, as you come to Shur even as far as the land of Egypt.

9 D avid asolaba esos pueblos y no dejaba con vida hombres ni mujeres; se apropiaba de ovejas, vacas, asnos, camellos y vestidos, y luego regresaba con Aquis.

David attacked the land and did not leave a man or a woman alive, and he took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned and came to Achish.

10 Y Aquis le preguntaba: «¿Dónde han merodeado hoy?» Y David decía: «En el Néguev de Judá, y en el Néguev de Yeramel, y en el Néguev de los quenitas.»

Now Achish said, “Where have you made a raid today?” And David said, “Against the Negev of Judah and against the Negev of the Jerahmeelites and against the Negev of the Kenites.”

11 P ero en todos esos lugares no quedaba hombre ni mujer con vida, para evitar que fueran a Gat y dijeran lo que había hecho. Y así actuó David todo el tiempo que vivió en tierra de filisteos.

David did not leave a man or a woman alive to bring to Gath, saying, “Otherwise they will tell about us, saying, ‘So has David done and so has been his practice all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”

12 Y Aquis confiaba en lo que hacía David, y pensaba: «David se ha hecho odioso al pueblo de Israel, así que siempre estará a mi servicio.»

So Achish believed David, saying, “He has surely made himself odious among his people Israel; therefore he will become my servant forever.”
