1 A mados míos, puesto que tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, y perfeccionémonos en la santidad y en el temor de Dios. Regocijo de Pablo ante el arrepentimiento de los corintios

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2 Á brannos su corazón, pues a nadie hemos agraviado, a nadie hemos corrompido, a nadie hemos engañado.

Make room for us in your hearts; we wronged no one, we corrupted no one, we took advantage of no one.

3 N o digo esto para condenarlos, pues ya antes les he dicho que están en nuestro corazón. ¡Juntos en la muerte, y juntos en la vida!

I do not speak to condemn you, for I have said before that you are in our hearts to die together and to live together.

4 S oy demasiado franco con ustedes, pero mi orgullo por ustedes también es demasiado. En medio de todas nuestras tribulaciones, me siento muy estimulado y estoy rebosando de alegría.

Great is my confidence in you; great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort; I am overflowing with joy in all our affliction.

5 C uando llegamos de Macedonia, no tuvimos ningún descanso, sino que enfrentamos tribulaciones de todas partes: desde afuera, conflictos; desde adentro, temores.

For even when we came into Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted on every side: conflicts without, fears within.

6 P ero Dios, que consuela a los humildes, nos consoló con la llegada de Tito;

But God, who comforts the depressed, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

7 y no sólo con su llegada, sino también con el consuelo que él había recibido de parte de ustedes, pues nos habló del gran afecto que recibió por parte de ustedes, así como de su profunda tristeza y de su preocupación por mí, lo cual me hizo alegrarme aún más.

and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced even more.

8 C iertamente, mi carta fue para ustedes motivo de tristeza, y entonces lamenté haberla escrito porque vi que por algún tiempo ella los entristeció; pero ahora no lo lamento

For though I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it— for I see that that letter caused you sorrow, though only for a while—

9 s ino que me alegro. Y no porque ustedes se hayan entristecido, sino porque esa tristeza los llevó al arrepentimiento. Ustedes fueron entristecidos conforme a la voluntad de Dios, de modo que en nada fueron perjudicados por parte de nosotros.

I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us.

10 L a tristeza que proviene de Dios produce arrepentimiento para salvación, y de ésta no hay que arrepentirse, pero la tristeza que proviene del mundo produce muerte.

For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.

11 ¡ Fíjense! Esta tristeza que provino de Dios, ¡produjo en ustedes preocupación, el deseo de disculparse, indignación, temor, vehemencia, celo, y deseos de hacer justicia! Es evidente que en este asunto ustedes no tuvieron la culpa.

For behold what earnestness this very thing, this godly sorrow, has produced in you: what vindication of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what longing, what zeal, what avenging of wrong! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be innocent in the matter.

12 Y aunque yo les escribí, no lo hice por el que cometió el agravio, ni por el que lo padeció, sino para que se hiciera evidente la preocupación que tenemos por ustedes delante de Dios.

So although I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of the offender nor for the sake of the one offended, but that your earnestness on our behalf might be made known to you in the sight of God.

13 P or eso el consuelo de ustedes ha sido nuestro propio consuelo. Pero más nos alegró el ver a Tito tan feliz porque su espíritu fue confortado por todos ustedes.

For this reason we have been comforted. And besides our comfort, we rejoiced even much more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

14 Y o me había jactado de ustedes con él, y no he quedado mal. Y así como en todo les hemos hablado con la verdad, también resultaron ciertos los elogios que hice ante Tito acerca de ustedes.

For if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I was not put to shame; but as we spoke all things to you in truth, so also our boasting before Titus proved to be the truth.

15 Y el cariño que él les tiene es aun mayor cuando se acuerda de la obediencia de todos ustedes, y del temor y temblor con que ustedes lo recibieron.

His affection abounds all the more toward you, as he remembers the obedience of you all, how you received him with fear and trembling.

16 M e alegra poder confiar plenamente en ustedes.

I rejoice that in everything I have confidence in you.
