1 V oici la postérité d'Aaron et de Moïse, au temps où l'Éternel parla à Moïse, sur la montagne de Sinaï.

Now these are the records of the generations of Aaron and Moses at the time when the Lord spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.

2 V oici les noms des fils d'Aaron: Nadab, le premier-né, Abihu, Éléazar et Ithamar.

These then are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

3 C e sont là les noms des fils d'Aaron, qui reçurent l'onction comme sacrificateurs, et qui furent consacrés pour l'exercice du sacerdoce.

These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whom he ordained to serve as priests.

4 N adab et Abihu moururent devant l'Éternel, lorsqu'ils apportèrent devant l'Éternel du feu étranger, dans le désert de Sinaï; ils n'avaient point de fils. Éléazar et Ithamar exercèrent le sacerdoce, en présence d'Aaron, leur père.

But Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered strange fire before the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai; and they had no children. So Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the lifetime of their father Aaron.

5 L 'Éternel parla à Moïse, et dit:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

6 F ais approcher la tribu de Lévi, et tu la placeras devant le sacrificateur Aaron, pour qu'elle soit à son service.

“ Bring the tribe of Levi near and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him.

7 I ls auront le soin de ce qui est remis à sa garde et à la garde de toute l'assemblée, devant la tente d'assignation: ils feront le service du tabernacle.

They shall perform the duties for him and for the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.

8 I ls auront le soin de tous les ustensiles de la tente d'assignation, et de ce qui est remis à la garde des enfants d'Israël: ils feront le service du tabernacle.

They shall also keep all the furnishings of the tent of meeting, along with the duties of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

9 T u donneras les Lévites à Aaron et à ses fils; ils lui seront entièrement donnés, de la part des enfants d'Israël.

You shall thus give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given to him from among the sons of Israel.

10 T u établiras Aaron et ses fils pour qu'ils observent les fonctions de leur sacerdoce; et l'étranger qui approchera sera puni de mort.

So you shall appoint Aaron and his sons that they may keep their priesthood, but the layman who comes near shall be put to death.”

11 L 'Éternel parla à Moïse, et dit:

Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

12 V oici, j'ai pris les Lévites du milieu des enfants d'Israël, à la place de tous les premiers-nés, des premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël; et les Lévites m'appartiendront.

“Now, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of every firstborn, the first issue of the womb among the sons of Israel. So the Levites shall be Mine.

13 C ar tout premier-né m'appartient; le jour où j'ai frappé tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d'Égypte, je me suis consacré tous les premiers-nés en Israël, tant des hommes que des animaux: ils m'appartiendront. Je suis l'Éternel.

For all the firstborn are Mine; on the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified to Myself all the firstborn in Israel, from man to beast. They shall be Mine; I am the Lord.”

14 L 'Éternel parla à Moïse, dans le désert de Sinaï, et dit:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

15 F ais le dénombrement des enfants de Lévi, selon les maisons de leurs pères, selon leurs familles; tu feras le dénombrement de tous les mâles, depuis l'âge d'un mois et au-dessus.

“ Number the sons of Levi by their fathers’ households, by their families; every male from a month old and upward you shall number.”

16 M oïse en fit le dénombrement sur l'ordre de l'Éternel, en se conformant à l'ordre qui lui fut donné.

So Moses numbered them according to the word of the Lord, just as he had been commanded.

17 C e sont ici les fils de Lévi, d'après leurs noms: Guerschon, Kehath et Merari. -

These then are the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari.

18 V oici les noms des fils de Guerschon, selon leurs familles: Libni et Schimeï.

These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei;

19 V oici les fils de Kehath, selon leurs familles: Amram, Jitsehar, Hébron et Uziel;

and the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel;

20 e t les fils de Merari, selon leurs familles: Machli et Muschi. Ce sont là les familles de Lévi, selon les maisons de leurs pères.

and the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’ households.

21 D e Guerschon descendent la famille de Libni et la famille de Schimeï, formant les familles des Guerschonites.

Of Gershon was the family of the Libnites and the family of the Shimeites; these were the families of the Gershonites.

22 C eux dont on fit le dénombrement, en comptant tous les mâles depuis l'âge d'un mois et au-dessus, furent sept mille cinq cents.

Their numbered men, in the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, even their numbered men were 7, 500.

23 L es familles des Guerschonites campaient derrière le tabernacle à l'occident.

The families of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle westward,

24 L e chef de la maison paternelle des Guerschonites était Éliasaph, fils de Laël.

and the leader of the fathers’ households of the Gershonites was Eliasaph the son of Lael. Duties of the Priests

25 P our ce qui concerne la tente d'assignation, on remit aux soins des fils de Guerschon le tabernacle et la tente, la couverture, le rideau qui est à l'entrée de la tente d'assignation;

Now the duties of the sons of Gershon in the tent of meeting involved the tabernacle and the tent, its covering, and the screen for the doorway of the tent of meeting,

26 l es toiles du parvis et le rideau de l'entrée du parvis, tout autour du tabernacle et de l'autel, et tous les cordages pour le service du tabernacle.

and the hangings of the court, and the screen for the doorway of the court which is around the tabernacle and the altar, and its cords, according to all the service concerning them.

27 D e Kehath descendent la famille des Amramites, la famille des Jitseharites, la famille des Hébronites et la famille des Uziélites, formant les familles des Kehathites.

Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites and the family of the Izharites and the family of the Hebronites and the family of the Uzzielites; these were the families of the Kohathites.

28 E n comptant tous les mâles depuis l'âge d'un mois et au-dessus, il y en eut huit mille six cents, qui furent chargés des soins du sanctuaire.

In the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, there were 8, 600, performing the duties of the sanctuary.

29 L es familles des fils de Kehath campaient au côté méridional du tabernacle.

The families of the sons of Kohath were to camp on the southward side of the tabernacle,

30 L e chef de la maison paternelle des familles des Kehathites était Élitsaphan, fils d'Uziel.

and the leader of the fathers’ households of the Kohathite families was Elizaphan the son of Uzziel.

31 O n remit à leurs soins l'arche, la table, le chandelier, les autels, les ustensiles du sanctuaire, avec lesquels on fait le service, le voile et tout ce qui en dépend.

Now their duties involved the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, and the utensils of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the screen, and all the service concerning them;

32 L e chef des chefs des Lévites était Éléazar, fils du sacrificateur Aaron; il avait la surveillance de ceux qui étaient chargés des soins du sanctuaire.

and Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest was the chief of the leaders of Levi, and had the oversight of those who perform the duties of the sanctuary.

33 D e Merari descendent la famille de Machli et la famille de Muschi, formant les familles des Merarites.

Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites and the family of the Mushites; these were the families of Merari.

34 C eux dont on fit le dénombrement, en comptant tous les mâles depuis l'âge d'un mois et au-dessus, furent six mille deux cents.

Their numbered men in the numbering of every male from a month old and upward, were 6, 200.

35 L e chef de la maison paternelle des familles de Merari était Tsuriel, fils d'Abihaïl. Ils campaient du côté septentrional du tabernacle.

The leader of the fathers’ households of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They were to camp on the northward side of the tabernacle.

36 O n remit à la garde et aux soins des fils de Merari les planches du tabernacle, ses barres, ses colonnes et leurs bases, tous ses ustensiles et tout ce qui en dépend;

Now the appointed duties of the sons of Merari involved the frames of the tabernacle, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its equipment, and the service concerning them,

37 l es colonnes du parvis tout autour, leurs bases, leurs pieux et leurs cordages.

and the pillars around the court with their sockets and their pegs and their cords.

38 M oïse, Aaron et ses fils campaient devant le tabernacle, à l'orient, devant la tente d'assignation, au levant; ils avaient la garde et le soin du sanctuaire, remis à la garde des enfants d'Israël; et l'étranger qui s'approchera sera puni de mort.

Now those who were to camp before the tabernacle eastward, before the tent of meeting toward the sunrise, are Moses and Aaron and his sons, performing the duties of the sanctuary for the obligation of the sons of Israel; but the layman coming near was to be put to death.

39 T ous les Lévites dont Moïse et Aaron firent le dénombrement sur l'ordre de l'Éternel, selon leurs familles, tous les mâles depuis l'âge d'un mois et au-dessus, furent vingt-deux mille.

All the numbered men of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the command of the Lord by their families, every male from a month old and upward, were 22, 000. Firstborn Redeemed

40 L 'Éternel dit à Moïse: Fais le dénombrement de tous les premiers-nés mâles parmi les enfants d'Israël, depuis l'âge d'un mois et au-dessus, et compte les d'après leurs noms.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “ Number every firstborn male of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward, and make a list of their names.

41 T u prendras les Lévites pour moi, l'Éternel, à la place de tous les premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël, et le bétail des Lévites à la place de tous les premiers-nés du bétail des enfants d'Israël.

You shall take the Levites for Me, I am the Lord, instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the sons of Israel.”

42 M oïse fit le dénombrement de tous les premiers-nés parmi les enfants d'Israël, selon l'ordre que l'Éternel lui avait donné.

So Moses numbered all the firstborn among the sons of Israel, just as the Lord had commanded him;

43 T ous les premiers-nés, dont on fit le dénombrement, en comptant les noms, depuis l'âge d'un mois et au-dessus, furent vingt-deux mille deux cent soixante-treize.

and all the firstborn males by the number of names from a month old and upward, for their numbered men were 22, 273.

44 L 'Éternel parla à Moïse, et dit:

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

45 P rends les Lévites à la place de tous les premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël, et le bétail des Lévites à la place de leur bétail; et les Lévites m'appartiendront. Je suis l'Éternel.

“ Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel and the cattle of the Levites. And the Levites shall be Mine; I am the Lord.

46 P our le rachat des deux cent soixante-treize qui dépassent le nombre des Lévites, parmi les premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël,

For the ransom of the 273 of the firstborn of the sons of Israel who are in excess beyond the Levites,

47 t u prendras cinq sicles par tête; tu les prendras selon le sicle du sanctuaire, qui est de vingt guéras.

you shall take five shekels apiece, per head; you shall take them in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary ( the shekel is twenty gerahs),

48 T u donneras l'argent à Aaron et à ses fils, pour le rachat de ceux qui dépassent le nombre des Lévites.

and give the money, the ransom of those who are in excess among them, to Aaron and to his sons.”

49 M oïse prit l'argent pour le rachat de ceux qui dépassaient le nombre des rachetés par les Lévites;

So Moses took the ransom money from those who were in excess, beyond those ransomed by the Levites;

50 i l prit l'argent des premiers-nés des enfants d'Israël: mille trois cent soixante-cinq sicles, selon le sicle du sanctuaire.

from the firstborn of the sons of Israel he took the money in terms of the shekel of the sanctuary, 1, 365.

51 E t Moïse donna l'argent du rachat à Aaron et à ses fils, sur l'ordre de l'Éternel, en se conformant à l'ordre que l'Éternel avait donné à Moïse.

Then Moses gave the ransom money to Aaron and to his sons, at the command of the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
