1 H iram, roi de Tyr, envoya des messagers à David, et du bois de cèdre, et des tailleurs de pierres et des charpentiers, pour lui bâtir une maison.

Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar trees, masons and carpenters, to build a house for him.

2 D avid reconnut que l'Éternel l'affermissait comme roi d'Israël, et que son royaume était haut élevé, à cause de son peuple d'Israël.

And David realized that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was highly exalted, for the sake of His people Israel.

3 D avid prit encore des femmes à Jérusalem, et il engendra encore des fils et des filles.

Then David took more wives at Jerusalem, and David became the father of more sons and daughters.

4 V oici les noms de ceux qui lui naquirent à Jérusalem: Schammua, Schobab, Nathan, Salomon,

These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

5 J ibhar, Élischua, Elphéleth,

6 N oga, Népheg, Japhia,

Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

7 É lischama, Beéliada et Éliphéleth.

8 L es Philistins apprirent que David avait été oint pour roi sur tout Israël, et ils montèrent tous à sa recherche. David, qui en fut informé, sortit au-devant d'eux.

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up in search of David; and David heard of it and went out against them.

9 L es Philistins arrivèrent, et se répandirent dans la vallée des Rephaïm.

Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

10 D avid consulta Dieu, en disant: Monterai-je contre les Philistins, et les livreras-tu entre mes mains? Et l'Éternel lui dit: Monte, et je les livrerai entre tes mains.

David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You give them into my hand?” Then the Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will give them into your hand.”

11 I ls montèrent à Baal Peratsim, où David les battit. Puis il dit: Dieu a dispersé mes ennemis par ma main, comme des eaux qui s'écoulent. C'est pourquoi l'on a donné à ce lieu le nom de Baal Peratsim.

So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim.

12 I ls laissèrent là leurs dieux, qui furent brûlés au feu d'après l'ordre de David.

They abandoned their gods there; so David gave the order and they were burned with fire.

13 L es Philistins se répandirent de nouveau dans la vallée.

The Philistines made yet another raid in the valley.

14 D avid consulta encore Dieu. Et Dieu lui dit: Tu ne monteras pas après eux; détourne-toi d'eux, et tu arriveras sur eux vis-à-vis des mûriers.

David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees.

15 Q uand tu entendras un bruit de pas dans les cimes des mûriers, alors tu sortiras pour combattre, car c'est Dieu qui marche devant toi pour battre l'armée des Philistins.

It shall be when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”

16 D avid fit ce que Dieu lui avait ordonné, et l'armée des Philistins fut battue depuis Gabaon jusqu'à Guézer.

David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gezer.

17 L a renommée de David se répandit dans tous les pays, et l'Éternel le rendit redoutable à toutes les nations.

Then the fame of David went out into all the lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him on all the nations.
