Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved and fellow-worker,

2 a lla sorella Apfia, ad Archippo, nostro compagno d’armi, e alla chiesa che si riunisce in casa tua:

and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house:

3 g razia a voi e pace da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signore Gesù Cristo.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 I o ringrazio continuamente il mio Dio, ricordandomi di te nelle mie preghiere,

I thank my God always, making mention of thee in my prayers,

5 p erché sento parlare dell’amore e della fede che hai verso il Signore Gesù e verso tutti i santi.

hearing of thy love, and of the faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints;

6 C hiedo a lui che la fede che ci è comune diventi efficace nel farti riconoscere tutto il bene che noi possiamo compiere, alla gloria di Cristo.

that the fellowship of thy faith may become effectual, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in you, unto Christ.

7 I nfatti ho provato una grande gioia e consolazione per il tuo amore, perché per opera tua, fratello, il cuore dei santi è stato confortato. Paolo interviene in favore di Onesimo

For I had much joy and comfort in thy love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother.

8 P erciò, pur avendo molta libertà in Cristo di comandarti quello che conviene fare,

Wherefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to enjoin thee that which is befitting,

9 p referisco fare appello al tuo amore, semplicemente come Paolo, vecchio e ora anche prigioniero di Cristo Gesù;

yet for love's sake I rather beseech, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus:

10 t i prego per mio figlio che ho generato mentre ero in catene, per Onesimo,

I beseech thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus,

11 u n tempo inutile a te, ma che ora è utile a te e a me.

who once was unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable to thee and to me:

12 T e lo rimando, lui, che amo come il mio cuore.

whom I have sent back to thee in his own person, that is, my very heart:

13 A vrei voluto tenerlo con me, perché in vece tua mi servisse nelle catene che porto a motivo del vangelo;

whom I would fain have kept with me, that in thy behalf he might minister unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

14 m a non ho voluto fare nulla senza il tuo consenso, perché la tua buona azione non fosse forzata, ma volontaria.

but without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy goodness should not be as of necessity, but of free will.

15 F orse proprio per questo egli è stato lontano da te per un po’ di tempo, perché tu lo riavessi per sempre;

For perhaps he was therefore parted from thee for a season, that thou shouldest have him for ever;

16 n on più come schiavo, ma molto più che schiavo, come un fratello caro specialmente a me, ma ora molto più a te, sia sul piano umano sia nel Signore!

no longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much rather to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

17 S e dunque tu mi consideri in comunione con te, accoglilo come me stesso.

If then thou countest me a partner, receive him as myself.

18 S e ti ha fatto qualche torto o ti deve qualcosa, addebitalo a me.

But if he hath wronged the at all, or oweth thee aught, put that to mine account;

19 I o, Paolo, lo scrivo di mia propria mano: pagherò io; per non dirti che tu mi sei debitore perfino di te stesso.

I Paul write it with mine own hand, I will repay it: that I say not unto thee that thou owest to me even thine own self besides.

20 S ì, fratello, io vorrei che tu mi fossi utile nel Signore; rasserena il mio cuore in Cristo.

Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my heart in Christ.

21 T i scrivo fiducioso nella tua ubbidienza, sapendo che farai anche più di quel che ti chiedo.

Having confidence in thine obedience I write unto thee, knowing that thou wilt do even beyond what I say.

22 A l tempo stesso preparami un alloggio, perché spero, grazie alle vostre preghiere, di esservi restituito.

But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I hope that through your prayers I shall be granted unto you.

23 E pafra, mio compagno di prigionia in Cristo Gesù, ti saluta.

Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus, saluteth thee;

24 C osì pure Marco, Aristarco, Dema, Luca, miei collaboratori.

and so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workers.

25 L a grazia del Signore Gesù Cristo sia con il vostro spirito.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
