Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: Set me on high from them that rise up against me.

2 L iberami dai malfattori e salvami dagli uomini sanguinari.

Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, And save me from the bloodthirsty men.

3 E cco, essi pongono insidie all’anima mia; uomini potenti si uniscono contro di me, senza colpa né peccato da parte mia, o Signore!

For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul; The mighty gather themselves together against me: Not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Jehovah.

4 S enza mia colpa corrono e si preparano. Svègliati, avvicìnati a me, e guarda!

They run and prepare themselves without my fault: Awake thou to help me, and behold.

5 T u, o Signore, Dio degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, àlzati a giudicare tutte le genti! Non fare grazia ad alcuno dei perfidi malfattori!

Even thou, O Jehovah God of hosts, the God of Israel, Arise to visit all the nations: Be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah

6 R itornano di sera, urlano come cani e si aggirano per la città.

They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And go round about the city.

7 E cco, vomitano ingiurie dalla loro bocca; hanno spade sulle labbra. «Tanto», dicono, «chi ci ascolta?»

Behold, they belch out with their mouth; Swords are in their lips: For who, say they, doth hear?

8 M a tu, o Signore, riderai di loro; ti farai beffe di tutte le genti.

But thou, O Jehovah, wilt laugh at them; Thou wilt have all the nations in derision.

9 O mia forza, a te mi rivolgerò, perché Dio è il mio rifugio.

Because of his strength I will give heed unto thee; For God is my high tower.

10 I l mio Dio mi verrà incontro con la sua bontà. Dio mi farà vedere sui miei nemici quel che desidero.

My God with his lovingkindness will meet me: God will let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

11 N on ucciderli, perché il mio popolo non dimentichi; falli andare, per la tua potenza, raminghi; e umiliali, o Signore, nostro scudo!

Slay them not, lest my people forget: Scatter them by thy power, and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

12 O gni parola che dicono è un peccato della loro bocca; siano dunque presi nel laccio della loro superbia, per le maledizioni e le menzogne che pronunciano.

For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, Let them even be taken in their pride, And for cursing and lying which they speak.

13 D istruggili nel tuo furore, distruggili e non siano più; e si conoscerà che Dio domina su Giacobbe fino all’estremità della terra.

Consume them in wrath, consume them, so that they shall be no more: And let them know that God ruleth in Jacob, Unto the ends of the earth. Selah

14 O gni sera ritornano, urlano come cani e si aggirano per la città.

And at evening let them return, let them howl like a dog, And go round about the city.

15 V anno vagando in cerca di cibo e se non trovano da sfamarsi, passano la notte ululando.

They shall wander up and down for food, And tarry all night if they be not satisfied.

16 M a io canterò la tua potenza e al mattino loderò ad alta voce la tua bontà, perché tu sei stato per me una fortezza, un rifugio nel giorno dell’avversità.

But I will sing of thy strength; Yea, I will sing aloud of thy lovingkindness in the morning: For thou hast been my high tower, And a refuge in the day of my distress.

17 O mia forza, a te salmeggerò, perché Dio è il mio rifugio, il Dio che mi fa del bene.

Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing praises: For God is my high tower, the God of my mercy.
