1 C anto dei pellegrinaggi. Molte volte mi hanno oppresso fin dalla mia gioventù – lo dica pure Israele –

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up, Let Israel now say,

2 m olte volte mi hanno oppresso fin dalla mia gioventù; eppure non hanno potuto vincermi.

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up: Yet they have not prevailed against me.

3 D egli aratori hanno arato sul mio dorso, vi hanno tracciato i loro lunghi solchi.

The plowers plowed upon my back; They made long their furrows.

4 I l Signore è giusto; egli ha spezzato le funi degli empi.

Jehovah is righteous: He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

5 S iano confusi e voltino le spalle quanti odiano Sion!

Let them be put to shame and turned backward, All they that hate Zion.

6 S iano come l’erba dei tetti, che secca prima di crescere!

Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, Which withereth before it groweth up;

7 N on se ne riempie la mano il mietitore, né le braccia chi lega i covoni;

Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand, Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.

8 e i passanti non dicono: «La benedizione del Signore sia su di voi; noi vi benediciamo nel nome del Signore!»

Neither do they that go by say, The blessing of Jehovah be upon you; We bless you in the name of Jehovah.
