1 D opo queste cose, il coppiere e il panettiere del re d’Egitto offesero il loro signore, il re d’Egitto.

And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt.

2 I l faraone s’indignò contro i suoi due ufficiali, contro il capo dei coppieri e il capo dei panettieri;

And Pharaoh was wroth against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

3 e li fece mettere in carcere nella casa del capo delle guardie, nella stessa prigione dove Giuseppe stava rinchiuso.

And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

4 I l capitano delle guardie li affidò alla sorveglianza di Giuseppe, il quale li serviva. Essi rimasero in prigione per un certo tempo.

And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he ministered unto them: and they continued a season in ward.

5 I n una medesima notte, il coppiere e il panettiere del re d’Egitto, che erano rinchiusi nella prigione, ebbero tutti e due un sogno, un sogno per uno, e ciascun sogno aveva il suo significato particolare.

And they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

6 G iuseppe, venuto la mattina da loro, li guardò e li vide tutti turbati.

And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and saw them, and, behold, they were sad.

7 I nterrogò allora gli ufficiali del faraone che erano con lui in prigione nella casa del suo padrone, e disse: «Perché oggi avete il viso così triste?»

And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in ward in his master's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sad to-day?

8 Q uelli gli risposero: «Abbiamo fatto un sogno e non c’è nessuno che ce lo interpreti». Giuseppe disse loro: «Le interpretazioni non appartengono a Dio? Raccontatemi i sogni, vi prego».

And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell it me, I pray you.

9 A llora il capo dei coppieri raccontò il suo sogno a Giuseppe e gli disse: «Nel mio sogno mi stava davanti una vite;

And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

10 i n quella vite c’erano tre tralci; mi pareva che essa germogliasse, poi fiorisse, e desse infine dei grappoli d’uva matura.

and in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and its blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

11 I o avevo in mano la coppa del faraone; presi l’uva, la spremetti nella coppa del faraone e diedi la coppa in mano al faraone».

and Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.

12 G iuseppe gli disse: «Questa è l’interpretazione del sogno: i tre tralci sono tre giorni;

And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;

13 f ra tre giorni il faraone ti farà rialzare il capo, ti ristabilirà nel tuo incarico e tu darai in mano al faraone la sua coppa, come facevi prima, quando eri suo coppiere.

within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head, and restore thee unto thine office: and thou shalt give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

14 M a ricòrdati di me, quando sarai felice, e sii buono verso di me, ti prego; parla di me al faraone e fammi uscire da questa casa,

But have me in thy remembrance when it shall be well with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:

15 p erché io fui portato via di nascosto dal paese degli Ebrei e anche qui non ho fatto nulla per essere messo in questo sotterraneo».

for indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

16 I l capo dei panettieri, vedendo che l’interpretazione era favorevole, disse a Giuseppe: «Anch’io! Nel mio sogno avevo tre canestri di pane bianco sul capo;

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head:

17 n el canestro più alto c’era per il faraone ogni sorta di vivande cotte al forno; e gli uccelli le mangiavano dentro al canestro sul mio capo».

and in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

18 G iuseppe rispose e disse: «Questa è l’interpretazione del sogno: i tre canestri sono tre giorni.

And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: the three baskets are three days;

19 A ncora tre giorni e il faraone alzerà la tua testa, ti farà impiccare a un albero e gli uccelli mangeranno la tua carne addosso a te».

within yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

20 I l terzo giorno, che era il compleanno del faraone, egli fece un banchetto per tutti i suoi servitori e alzò la testa al capo dei coppieri e la testa al capo dei panettieri in mezzo ai suoi servitori:

And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

21 r istabilì il capo dei coppieri nel suo ufficio di coppiere, perché mettesse la coppa in mano al faraone,

And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:

22 m a fece impiccare il capo dei panettieri, secondo l’interpretazione che Giuseppe aveva loro data.

but he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.

23 I l gran coppiere però non si ricordò di Giuseppe e lo dimenticò.

Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
