1 « Se uno ruba un bue o una pecora e li ammazza o li vende, restituirà cinque buoi per il bue e quattro pecore per la pecora.

If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.

2 S e il ladro, còlto nell’atto di fare uno scasso, viene percosso e muore, non vi è delitto di omicidio.

If the thief be found breaking in, and be smitten so that he dieth, there shall be no bloodguiltiness for him.

3 S e il sole è già sorto quando avviene il fatto, vi sarà delitto di omicidio. Il ladro dovrà risarcire il furto. Se non può farlo, sarà venduto per pagare ciò che ha rubato.

If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be bloodguiltiness for him; he shall make restitution: if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

4 S e il furto, bue o asino o pecora che sia, gli viene trovato vivo nelle mani, restituirà il doppio.

If the theft be found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep, he shall pay double.

5 S e uno danneggia un campo o una vigna, lasciando andare le sue bestie a pascere nel campo altrui, risarcirà il danno con il meglio del suo campo e con il meglio della sua vigna.

If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall let his beast loose, and it feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.

6 S e divampa un fuoco e si propaga alle spine distruggendo il grano in covoni o il grano in piedi o il campo, chi avrà acceso il fuoco dovrà risarcire il danno.

If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the shocks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field are consumed; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.

7 S e uno affida al suo vicino del denaro o degli oggetti da custodire, ed essi siano stati rubati dalla casa di quest’ultimo, se il ladro si trova, restituirà il doppio.

If a man shall deliver unto his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, he shall pay double.

8 S e il ladro non si trova, il padrone della casa comparirà davanti a Dio per giurare che non si è appropriato della roba del suo vicino.

If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall come near unto God, to see whether he have not put his hand unto his neighbor's goods.

9 I n ogni caso di delitto, sia che si tratti di un bue o di un asino o di una pecora o di un vestito o di qualunque oggetto perduto del quale uno dica: “È questo qui!”, la causa delle due parti verrà davanti a Dio; colui che Dio condannerà, restituirà il doppio al suo prossimo.

For every matter of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, whereof one saith, This is it, the cause of both parties shall come before God; he whom God shall condemn shall pay double unto his neighbor.

10 S e uno dà in custodia al suo vicino un asino, un bue, una pecora o qualunque altra bestia, ed essa muore o resta storpiata o è portata via senza che ci siano testimoni,

If a man deliver unto his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:

11 i nterverrà fra le due parti il giuramento del Signore per sapere se colui che aveva la bestia in custodia non si è appropriato della roba del suo vicino. Il padrone della bestia si accontenterà del giuramento, e l’altro non sarà tenuto a risarcire i danni.

the oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, whether he hath not put his hand unto his neighbor's goods; and the owner thereof shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.

12 M a se la bestia gli è stata rubata, egli dovrà risarcire il danno al padrone di essa.

But if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.

13 S e la bestia è stata sbranata, la esibirà come prova, e non sarà tenuto a risarcimento per la bestia sbranata.

If it be torn in pieces, let him bring it for witness: he shall not make good that which was torn.

14 S e uno prende in prestito dal suo vicino una bestia, e questa resta storpiata o muore essendo assente il padrone di essa, egli dovrà risarcire il danno.

And if a man borrow aught of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof not being with it, he shall surely make restitution.

15 M a se il padrone era con lui, egli non dovrà pagare i danni. Se la bestia è stata presa a nolo, la sua perdita è compresa nel prezzo del nolo. Prescrizioni varie

If the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be a hired thing, it came for its hire.

16 « Se uno seduce una fanciulla non ancora fidanzata e si unisce a lei, dovrà pagare la sua dote e prenderla in moglie.

And if a man entice a virgin that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely pay a dowry for her to be his wife.

17 S e il padre di lei rifiuta assolutamente di dargliela, il seduttore pagherà una somma pari alla dote che si è soliti dare per le fanciulle.

If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

18 N on lascerai vivere la strega.

Thou shalt not suffer a sorceress to live.

19 C hi si accoppia con una bestia dovrà essere messo a morte.

Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.

20 C hi offre sacrifici ad altri dèi, anziché solo al Signore, sarà sterminato come anatema.

He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto Jehovah only, shall be utterly destroyed.

21 « Non maltratterai lo straniero e non l’opprimerai, perché anche voi foste stranieri nel paese d’Egitto.

And a sojourner shalt thou not wrong, neither shalt thou oppress him: for ye were sojourners in the land of Egypt.

22 N on affliggerete la vedova, né l’orfano.

Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

23 S e in qualche modo li affliggi, ed essi gridano a me, io udrò senza dubbio il loro grido;

If thou afflict them at all, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;

24 l a mia ira si accenderà, io vi ucciderò con la spada, le vostre mogli saranno vedove e i vostri figli orfani.

and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

25 S e tu presti del denaro a qualcuno del mio popolo, al povero che è presso di te, non ti comporterai con lui da usuraio; non gli imporrai interesse.

If thou lend money to any of my people with thee that is poor, thou shalt not be to him as a creditor; neither shall ye lay upon him interest.

26 S e prendi in pegno il vestito del tuo prossimo, glielo restituirai prima che tramonti il sole;

If thou at all take thy neighbor's garment to pledge, thou shalt restore it unto him before the sun goeth down:

27 p erché esso è l’unica sua coperta, è la veste con cui si avvolge il corpo. Con che dormirebbe? E se egli grida a me, io lo udrò; perché sono misericordioso.

for that is his only covering, it is his garment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? And it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.

28 « Non bestemmierai contro Dio e non maledirai il principe del tuo popolo.

Thou shalt not revile God, nor curse a ruler of thy people.

29 N on indugerai a offrirmi il tributo dell’abbondanza delle tue raccolte e di ciò che cola dai tuoi frantoi. Mi darai il primogenito dei tuoi figli.

Thou shalt not delay to offer of thy harvest, and of the outflow of thy presses. The first-born of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.

30 L o stesso farai del tuo grosso e del tuo minuto bestiame: il loro primo parto rimarrà sette giorni presso la madre; l’ottavo giorno me lo darai.

Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with its dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.

31 V oi sarete degli uomini santi per me; non mangerete carne di bestia trovata sbranata nei campi; la getterete ai cani.

And ye shall be holy men unto me: therefore ye shall not eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.
