1 « Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; credete in Dio, e credete anche in me!

Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.

2 N ella casa del Padre mio ci sono molte dimore; se no, vi avrei detto forse che io vado a prepararvi un luogo?

In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

3 Q uando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato un luogo, tornerò e vi accoglierò presso di me, affinché dove sono io, siate anche voi;

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 e del luogo dove io vado, sapete anche la via».

And whither I go, ye know the way.

5 T ommaso gli disse: «Signore, non sappiamo dove vai; come possiamo sapere la via?»

Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?

6 G esù gli disse: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita; nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 S e avete conosciuto me, conoscerete anche mio Padre; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l’avete visto».

If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

8 F ilippo gli disse: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».

Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9 G esù gli disse: «Da tanto tempo sono con voi e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre; come mai tu dici: “Mostraci il Padre”?

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the Father?

10 N on credi tu che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico di mio; ma il Padre che dimora in me fa le opere sue.

Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works.

11 C redetemi: io sono nel Padre e il Padre è in me; se no, credete a causa di quelle stesse opere.

Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.

12 I n verità, in verità vi dico che chi crede in me farà anch’egli le opere che faccio io, e ne farà di maggiori, perché io me ne vado al Padre;

Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.

13 e quello che chiederete nel mio nome lo farò, affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14 S e mi chiederete qualche cosa nel mio nome, io la farò. Gesù promette lo Spirito Santo

If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.

15 « Se voi mi amate, osserverete i miei comandamenti;

If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.

16 e io pregherò il Padre, ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore perché sia con voi per sempre:

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,

17 l o Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi lo conoscete, perché dimora con voi, e sarà in voi.

even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.

18 N on vi lascerò orfani; tornerò da voi.

I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.

19 A ncora un po’ e il mondo non mi vedrà più; ma voi mi vedrete, perché io vivo, e voi vivrete.

Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 I n quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e voi in me, e io in voi.

In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

21 C hi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, quello mi ama; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio, e io lo amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.

22 G iuda (non l’Iscariota) gli domandò: «Signore, come mai ti manifesterai a noi e non al mondo?»

Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

23 G esù gli rispose: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola; e il Padre mio lo amerà, e noi verremo da lui e dimoreremo presso di lui.

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

24 C hi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite non è mia, ma è del Padre che mi ha mandato.

He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's who sent me.

25 V i ho detto queste cose, stando ancora con voi;

These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you.

26 m a il Consolatore, lo Spirito Santo, che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, vi insegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto quello che vi ho detto.

But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.

27 V i lascio pace; vi do la mia pace. Io non vi do come il mondo dà. Il vostro cuore non sia turbato e non si sgomenti.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

28 A vete udito che vi ho detto: “Io me ne vado, e torno da voi”; se voi mi amaste, vi rallegrereste che io vada al Padre, perché il Padre è maggiore di me.

Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I.

29 O ra ve l’ho detto prima che avvenga, affinché, quando sarà avvenuto, crediate.

And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe.

30 I o non parlerò più con voi per molto, perché viene il principe del mondo. Egli non può nulla contro di me;

I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;

31 m a così avviene affinché il mondo conosca che amo il Padre e opero come il Padre mi ha ordinato. Alzatevi, andiamo via di qui.

but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
