1 I l re Salomone regnava su tutto Israele.

And king Solomon was king over all Israel.

2 Q uesti erano i suoi principali funzionari: Azaria, figlio del sacerdote Sadoc,

And these were the princes whom he had: Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest;

3 E lioref e Aia, figli di Scisa, erano segretari; Giosafat, figlio di Ailud, era cancelliere;

Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder;

4 B enaia, figlio di Ieoiada, era capo dell’esercito; Sadoc e Abiatar erano sacerdoti;

and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the host; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

5 A zaria, figlio di Natan, era capo dei prefetti; Zabud, figlio di Natan, era sacerdote, amico del re;

and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers; and Zabud the son of Nathan was chief minister, and the king's friend;

6 A isar era sovrintendente del palazzo e Adoniram, figlio di Abda, era addetto ai lavori forzati.

and Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the men subject to taskwork.

7 S alomone aveva dodici prefetti su tutto Israele, i quali provvedevano al mantenimento del re e della sua casa; ciascuno di essi doveva provvedervi per un mese all’anno.

And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, who provided victuals for the king and his household: each man had to make provision for a month in the year.

8 Q uesti erano i loro nomi: Ben-Ur, nella regione montuosa di Efraim.

And these are their names: Ben-hur, in the hill-country of Ephraim;

9 B en-Decher, a Macas, a Saalbim, a Bet-Semes, a Elon di Bet-Anan.

Ben-deker, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan;

10 B en-Esed, ad Arubbot, aveva Soco e tutto il paese di Chefer.

Ben-hesed, in Arubboth (to him pertained Socoh, and all the land of Hepher);

11 B en-Abinadab, in tutta la regione di Dor; Tafat, figlia di Salomone, era sua moglie.

Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth-shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam;

13 B en-Gheber, a Ramot di Galaad; egli aveva i Borghi di Iair, figlio di Manasse, che sono in Galaad; aveva anche la regione di Argob che è in Basan, sessanta grandi città circondate di mura e munite di sbarre di bronzo.

Ben-geber, in Ramoth-gilead (to him pertained the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; even to him pertained the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, threescore great cities with walls and brazen bars);

14 A inadab, figlio d’Iddo, a Maanaim.

Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim;

15 A imaas, in Neftali; anche questi aveva preso in moglie Basmat, figlia di Salomone.

Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he also took Basemath the daughter of Solomon to wife);

16 B aana, figlio di Cusai, in Ascer e Alot.

Baana the son of Hushai, in Asher and Bealoth;

17 G iosafat, figlio di Parna, in Issacar.

Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar;

18 S imei, figlio di Ela, in Beniamino.

Shimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin;

19 G heber, figlio di Uri, nel paese di Galaad, il paese di Sicon, re degli Amorei, e di Og, re di Basan. C’era un solo prefetto per tutta questa regione. Estensione e potenza del regno di Salomone

Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only officer that was in the land.

20 G li abitanti di Giuda e Israele erano numerosissimi, come la sabbia che è sulla riva del mare. Essi mangiavano e bevevano allegramente.

Judah and Israel were many as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and making merry.

21 S alomone dominava su tutti i regni di qua dal fiume, sino al paese dei Filistei e sino ai confini dell’Egitto. Essi gli portavano tributi e gli furono soggetti tutto il tempo che egli visse.

And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought tribute, and served Solomon all the days of his life.

22 L a fornitura giornaliera di viveri per Salomone consisteva in trenta cori di fior di farina e sessanta cori di farina ordinaria;

And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal,

23 i n dieci buoi ingrassati, venti buoi di pastura e cento montoni, senza contare i cervi, le gazzelle, i daini e il pollame di allevamento.

ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and a hundred sheep, besides harts, and gazelles, and roebucks, and fatted fowl.

24 E gli dominava su tutto il paese di qua dal fiume, da Tifsa fino a Gaza, su tutti i re di qua dal fiume, ed era in pace con tutti i confinanti all’intorno.

For he had dominion over all the region on this side the River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings on this side the River: and he had peace on all sides round about him.

25 G li abitanti di Giuda e Israele, da Dan fino a Beer-Sceba, vissero al sicuro, ognuno all’ombra della sua vite e del suo fico, tutto il tempo che regnò Salomone.

And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig-tree, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, all the days of Solomon.

26 S alomone aveva inoltre quarantamila greppie da cavalli per i suoi carri e dodicimila cavalieri.

And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.

27 Q uei prefetti, un mese all’anno per uno, provvedevano al mantenimento del re Salomone e di tutti quelli che venivano invitati alla sua mensa; e non lasciavano mancare nulla.

And those officers provided victuals for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon's table, every man in his month; they let nothing be lacking.

28 F acevano anche portare l’orzo e la paglia per i cavalli da tiro e da corsa nel luogo dove si trovava il re, ciascuno secondo gli ordini che aveva ricevuti. Saggezza e fama di Salomone

Barley also and straw for the horses and swift steeds brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.

29 D io diede a Salomone sapienza, una grandissima intelligenza e una mente vasta com’è la sabbia che sta sulla riva del mare.

And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea-shore.

30 L a saggezza di Salomone superò la saggezza di tutti gli orientali e tutta la saggezza degli Egiziani.

And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east, and all the wisdom of Egypt.

31 E ra più saggio di ogni altro uomo, più di Etan l’Ezraita, più di Eman, di Calcol e di Darda, figli di Maol; e la sua fama si sparse per tutte le nazioni circostanti.

For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all the nations round about.

32 P ronunciò tremila massime e i suoi inni furono millecinque.

And he spake three thousand proverbs; and his songs were a thousand and five.

33 P arlò degli alberi, dal cedro del Libano all’issopo che spunta dalla muraglia; parlò pure degli animali, degli uccelli, dei rettili, dei pesci.

And he spake of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall; he spake also of beasts, and of birds, and of creeping things, and of fishes.

34 D a tutti i popoli veniva gente per udire la saggezza di Salomone, da parte di tutti i re della terra che avevano sentito parlare della sua saggezza.

And there came of all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.
