1 L ’anno seguente, nel tempo in cui i re cominciano la guerra, Ioab, alla testa di un poderoso esercito, andò a devastare il paese dei figli di Ammon e assediò Rabba; ma Davide rimase a Gerusalemme. E Ioab batté Rabba e la distrusse.

And it came to pass, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led forth the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and overthrew it.

2 D avide tolse dalla testa del loro re la corona, e trovò che pesava un talento d’oro e che aveva una pietra preziosa; essa fu posta sulla testa di Davide. Egli riportò anche dalla città un grandissimo bottino.

And David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head: and he brought forth the spoil of the city, exceeding much.

3 F ece uscire gli abitanti che erano nella città e li fece lavorare con seghe, érpici di ferro e scuri. Così fece Davide a tutte le città dei figli di Ammon. Poi Davide se ne tornò a Gerusalemme con tutto il popolo. Vittorie di Davide sui Filistei

And he brought forth the people that were therein, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. And thus did David unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

4 D opo ci fu una battaglia con i Filistei, a Ghezer. Allora Sibbecai di Cusa uccise Sippai, uno dei discendenti di Rafa; e i Filistei furono umiliati.

And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, of the sons of the giant; and they were subdued.

5 C i fu un’altra battaglia con i Filistei; ed Elanan, figlio di Iair, uccise Lami, fratello di Goliat di Gat, la cui asta della lancia era come un subbio da tessitore.

And there was again war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

6 C i fu ancora una battaglia a Gat, dove si trovò un uomo di grande statura, che aveva sei dita per ciascuna mano e per ciascun piede, in tutto ventiquattro dita. Anch’egli era dei discendenti di Rafa.

And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was born unto the giant.

7 E gli insultò Israele; e Gionatan, figlio di Simea, fratello di Davide, l’uccise.

And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him.

8 Q uesti quattro uomini erano nati a Gat della stirpe di Rafa. Essi perirono per mano di Davide e per mano della sua gente.

These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
