1 L a parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

2 « Figlio d’uomo, così parla il Signore, Dio, riguardo al paese d’Israele: “La fine, la fine viene sulle quattro estremità del paese!

And thou, son of man, thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto the land of Israel, An end: the end is come upon the four corners of the land.

3 L a tua fine è imminente; io manderò contro di te la mia ira, ti giudicherò secondo la tua condotta, ti farò ricadere addosso tutte le tue abominazioni.

Now is the end upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways; and I will bring upon thee all thine abominations.

4 I l mio occhio ti sarà addosso senza pietà, io non avrò compassione; ti farò ricadere addosso la tua condotta, le tue abominazioni saranno in mezzo a te; e voi conoscerete che io sono il Signore ”.

And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity; but I will bring thy ways upon thee, and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.

5 C osì parla il Signore, Dio: “Sventura! Ecco viene una sventura!

Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: An evil, an only evil; behold, it cometh.

6 L a fine viene, viene la fine! Essa si sveglia per te! Ecco viene!

An end is come, the end is come; it awaketh against thee; behold, it cometh.

7 V iene il tuo turno, o abitante del paese! Il tempo viene, il giorno si avvicina: giorno di tumulto, e non di grida gioiose su per i monti.

Thy doom is come unto thee, O inhabitant of the land: the time is come, the day is near, a day of tumult, and not of joyful shouting, upon the mountains.

8 O ra, tra breve, io spanderò su di te il mio furore, sfogherò su di te la mia ira, ti giudicherò secondo la tua condotta, ti farò ricadere addosso tutte le tue abominazioni.

Now will I shortly pour out my wrath upon thee, and accomplish mine anger against thee, and will judge thee according to thy ways; and I will bring upon thee all thine abominations.

9 I l mio occhio sarà senza pietà, io non avrò compassione; ti farò ricadere addosso la tua condotta, le tue abominazioni saranno in mezzo a te, e voi conoscerete che io sono il Signore, colui che colpisce.

And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will bring upon thee according to thy ways; and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I, Jehovah, do smite.

10 E cco il giorno! Ecco viene! Viene il tuo turno! La verga è fiorita! L’orgoglio è sbocciato!

Behold, the day, behold, it cometh: thy doom is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath budded.

11 L a violenza si alza come verga dell’empietà; nulla più rimane di essi, della loro folla tumultuosa, del loro fracasso, nulla della loro magnificenza!

Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness; none of them shall remain, nor of their multitude, nor of their wealth: neither shall there be eminency among them.

12 G iunge il tempo, il giorno si avvicina! Chi compra non si rallegri, chi vende non se ne dispiaccia, perché un’ira ardente è sospesa su tutta la loro moltitudine.

The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

13 I nfatti chi vende non tornerà in possesso di ciò che avrà venduto, anche se fosse tuttora in vita; poiché la visione contro tutta la loro moltitudine non sarà revocata, e nessuno potrà con il suo peccato salvare la propria vita.

For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they be yet alive: for the vision is touching the whole multitude thereof, none shall return; neither shall any strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.

14 S uona la tromba, tutto è pronto, ma nessuno va alla battaglia; infatti la mia ira ardente è sospesa su tutta la loro moltitudine.

They have blown the trumpet, and have made all ready; but none goeth to the battle; for my wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

15 D i fuori, la spada; di dentro, la peste e la fame! Chi è nei campi morirà di spada; chi è in città sarà divorato dalla fame e dalla peste.

The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword: and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.

16 Q uelli di loro che riusciranno a scampare staranno su per i monti come le colombe delle valli, tutti quanti gemendo, ognuno per la propria iniquità.

But those of them that escape shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them moaning, every one in his iniquity.

17 T utte le mani diverranno fiacche, tutte le ginocchia si scioglieranno in acqua.

All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weak as water.

18 S i vestiranno di sacchi, lo spavento servirà loro di coperta; la vergogna sarà su tutti i volti, avranno tutti il capo rasato.

They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads.

19 G etteranno il loro argento per le strade, il loro oro sarà per essi immondizia; il loro argento e il loro oro non li potranno salvare nel giorno del furore del Signore; non potranno saziare la loro fame né riempire le loro viscere, perché furono quelli l’intoppo che li fece cadere nella loro iniquità.

They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be as an unclean thing; their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of Jehovah: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels; because it hath been the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

20 L a bellezza dei loro ornamenti era per loro fonte d’orgoglio, e ne hanno fatto delle immagini delle loro abominazioni, delle loro divinità esecrande; perciò io farò in modo che siano per essi una cosa immonda.

As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty; but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things therein: therefore have I made it unto them as an unclean thing.

21 A bbandonerò tutto come preda in mano agli stranieri, come bottino in mano agli empi della terra, che lo profaneranno.

And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall profane it.

22 A llontanerò la mia faccia da loro e i nemici profaneranno il mio tesoro: dei briganti vi entreranno e lo profaneranno.

My face will I turn also from them, and they shall profane my secret place; and robbers shall enter into it, and profane it.

23 P repara le catene! Poiché questo paese è pieno di assassini, questa città è piena di violenza.

Make the chain; for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.

24 I o farò venire le più malvagie delle nazioni, che s’impadroniranno delle loro case; farò venir meno la superbia dei potenti e i loro santuari saranno profanati.

Wherefore I will bring the worst of the nations, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the pride of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be profaned.

25 V iene la rovina! Essi cercheranno la pace, ma non la troveranno.

Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and there shall be none.

26 V errà sventura dopo sventura, allarme dopo allarme; chiederanno visioni ai profeti, ai sacerdoti mancherà la conoscenza della legge, agli anziani il consiglio.

Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumor shall be upon rumor; and they shall seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the elders.

27 I l re sarà in lutto, il principe rivestito di desolazione, le mani del popolo del paese tremeranno di spavento. Io li tratterò secondo la loro condotta, li giudicherò secondo quanto meritano; e conosceranno che io sono il Signore ”».

The king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judge them; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
