1 L a parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

Moreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

2 « Figlio d’uomo, rivolgi la tua faccia verso il monte Seir, profetizza contro di esso

Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,

3 e digli: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Eccomi a te, o monte Seir! Io stenderò la mia mano contro di te e ti renderò una solitudine, un deserto.

and say unto it, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, O mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against thee, and I will make thee a desolation and an astonishment.

4 I o ridurrò le tue città in rovine, tu diventerai una solitudine, e conoscerai che io sono il Signore.

I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah.

5 P oiché hai avuto una inimicizia senza limiti e hai abbandonato i figli d’Israele in balìa della spada nel giorno della loro calamità, nel giorno che l’iniquità era giunta al colmo;

Because thou hast had a perpetual enmity, and hast given over the children of Israel to the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end;

6 p er questo, com’è vero che io vivo”, dice il Signore, Dio, “io ti lascerò nel sangue, e il sangue t’inseguirà; poiché non hai odiato il sangue, il sangue t’inseguirà.

therefore, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: since thou hast not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue thee.

7 R idurrò il monte Seir in una solitudine, in un deserto, e ne sterminerò chi va e chi viene.

Thus will I make mount Seir an astonishment and a desolation; and I will cut off from it him that passeth through and him that returneth.

8 I o riempirò i suoi monti dei suoi cadaveri; sopra i tuoi colli, nelle tue valli, in tutti i tuoi burroni cadranno gli uccisi dalla spada.

And I will fill its mountains with its slain: in thy hills and in thy valleys and in all thy watercourses shall they fall that are slain with the sword.

9 I o ti ridurrò in una desolazione perenne, le tue città non saranno più abitate, e voi conoscerete che io sono il Signore.

I will make thee a perpetual desolation, and thy cities shall not be inhabited; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.

10 P oiché hai detto: ‘Quelle due nazioni e quei due paesi saranno miei, noi ce ne impadroniremo’ (e il Signore era là presente! ),

Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas Jehovah was there:

11 c om’è vero che io vivo”, dice il Signore, Dio, “io agirò con l’ira e con la gelosia che tu hai mostrate nel tuo odio contro di loro; e mi farò conoscere in mezzo a loro, quando ti giudicherò.

therefore, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I will do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast showed out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I shall judge thee.

12 T u conoscerai che io, il Signore, ho udito tutti gli insulti che hai proferiti contro i monti d’Israele, dicendo: ‘Essi sono desolati; sono dati a noi, perché ne facciamo nostra preda’.

And thou shalt know that I, Jehovah, have heard all thy revilings which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to devour.

13 V oi, con la vostra bocca, vi siete inorgogliti contro di me e avete moltiplicato contro di me i vostri discorsi. Io l’ho udito!”

And ye have magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard it.

14 C osì parla il Signore, Dio: “Quando tutta la terra si rallegrerà, io ti ridurrò in una desolazione.

Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.

15 S iccome ti sei rallegrato perché l’eredità della casa d’Israele era devastata, io farò lo stesso di te: diventerai una desolazione, o monte Seir, tu ed Edom tutto quanto; e si conoscerà che io sono il Signore ”».

As thou didst rejoice over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
