1 A llora Salomone disse: «Il Signore ha dichiarato che avrebbe abitato nell’oscurità!

Then spake Solomon, Jehovah hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

2 E io ti ho costruito una casa come tua dimora, un luogo dove tu abiterai per sempre!»

But I have built thee a house of habitation, and a place for thee to dwell in for ever.

3 P oi il re voltò la faccia e benedisse tutta l’assemblea d’Israele; e tutta l’assemblea d’Israele stava in piedi.

And the king turned his face, and blessed all the assembly of Israel: and all the assembly of Israel stood.

4 E disse: «Benedetto sia il Signore, Dio d’Israele, il quale, di sua propria bocca, parlò a Davide mio padre, e con la sua potenza ha adempiuto quanto aveva dichiarato dicendo:

And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hands fulfilled it, saying,

5 “ Dal giorno che feci uscire il mio popolo Israele dal paese d’Egitto, io non scelsi alcuna città, fra tutte le tribù d’Israele, per costruire là una casa dove il mio nome dimorasse; e non scelsi alcun uomo perché fosse principe del mio popolo Israele;

Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over my people Israel:

6 m a ho scelto Gerusalemme perché il mio nome vi dimori e ho scelto Davide per regnare sul mio popolo Israele”.

but I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

7 D avide, mio padre, ebbe in cuore di costruire una casa al nome del Signore, Dio d’Israele;

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.

8 m a il Signore disse a Davide mio padre: “Quanto all’aver tu avuto in cuore di costruire una casa al mio nome, hai fatto bene ad avere questo in cuore;

But Jehovah said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart:

9 p erò non sarai tu che costruirai la casa, ma il figlio che uscirà dai tuoi lombi: sarà lui a costruire la casa al mio nome”.

nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

10 E il Signore ha adempiuto la parola che aveva pronunciata; e io sono subentrato al posto di Davide mio padre e mi sono seduto sul trono d’Israele, come il Signore aveva annunciato, e ho costruito la casa al nome del Signore, Dio d’Israele.

And Jehovah hath performed his word that he spake; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.

11 L à ho deposto l’arca, nella quale è il patto del Signore: il patto che egli stabilì con i figli d’Israele».

And there have I set the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with the children of Israel.

12 P oi Salomone si mise davanti all’altare del Signore, in presenza di tutta l’assemblea d’Israele, e stese le sue mani.

And he stood before the altar of Jehovah in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands;

13 E gli, infatti, aveva fatto costruire una tribuna di bronzo, lunga cinque cubiti, larga cinque cubiti e alta tre cubiti, e l’aveva posta in mezzo al cortile; egli vi salì, si mise in ginocchio in presenza di tutta l’assemblea d’Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo e disse:

(for Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;)

14 « O Signore, Dio d’Israele, non c’è Dio simile a te, né in cielo né in terra! Tu mantieni il patto e la misericordia verso i tuoi servi che camminano in tua presenza con tutto il loro cuore.

and he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven, or on earth; who keepest covenant and lovingkindness with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their heart;

15 T u hai mantenuto la promessa da te fatta al tuo servo Davide, mio padre; e ciò che dichiarasti con la tua propria bocca, la tua mano oggi l’adempie.

who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day.

16 O ra dunque, Signore, Dio d’Israele, mantieni al tuo servo Davide, mio padre, la promessa che gli facesti dicendo: “Non ti mancherà mai qualcuno che sieda davanti a me sul trono d’Israele, purché i tuoi figli veglino sul loro comportamento e camminino secondo la mia legge, come tu hai camminato in mia presenza”.

Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as thou hast walked before me.

17 O ra, Signore, Dio d’Israele, si avveri la parola che dicesti al tuo servo Davide!

Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David.

18 M a è proprio vero che Dio abita con gli uomini sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerti; quanto meno questa casa che io ho costruita!

But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have builded!

19 T uttavia, Signore, Dio mio, abbi riguardo alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica, ascoltando il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo ti rivolge.

Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee;

20 S iano i tuoi occhi giorno e notte aperti su questa casa, sul luogo nel quale dicesti di voler mettere il tuo nome! Ascolta la preghiera che il tuo servo farà, rivolto a questo luogo!

that thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place.

21 A scolta le suppliche del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele quando pregheranno, rivolti a questo luogo; ascoltali dal luogo della tua dimora, dai cieli; ascolta e perdona!

And hearken thou to the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: yea, hear thou from thy dwelling-place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest forgive.

22 S e uno avrà peccato contro il suo prossimo e si esigerà da lui il giuramento, obbligandolo a farlo con imprecazione contro se stesso, ed egli viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questa casa,

If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he come and swear before thine altar in this house;

23 t u ascoltalo dal cielo, agisci e giudica i tuoi servi; condanna il colpevole, facendo ricadere sul suo capo i suoi atti, e dichiara giusto l’innocente, trattandolo secondo la sua giustizia.

then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, requiting the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

24 Q uando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto dal nemico per aver peccato contro di te, se torna a te, se dà gloria al tuo nome e ti rivolge preghiere e suppliche in questa casa,

And if thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

25 t u esaudiscilo dal cielo, perdona al tuo popolo Israele il suo peccato e riconducilo nel paese che dèsti a lui e ai suoi padri.

then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

26 Q uando il cielo sarà chiuso e non vi sarà più pioggia a causa dei loro peccati contro di te, se essi pregano rivolti a questo luogo, se danno gloria al tuo nome e si convertono dai loro peccati perché li avrai afflitti,

When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them:

27 t u esaudiscili dal cielo, perdona il peccato ai tuoi servi e al tuo popolo Israele, ai quali avrai mostrato la buona strada per cui debbono camminare; e manda la pioggia sulla tua terra che hai data come eredità al tuo popolo.

then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou teachest them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.

28 Q uando il paese sarà invaso dalla carestia o dalla peste, dalla ruggine o dal carbone, dalle locuste o dai bruchi; quando il nemico assedierà il tuo popolo nel suo paese, nelle sue città, quando scoppierà qualsiasi flagello o epidemia, ogni preghiera,

If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague or whatsoever sickness there be;

29 o gni supplica che ti sarà rivolta da un individuo o dall’intero tuo popolo Israele; quando ciascuno avrà riconosciuto la sua piaga e il suo dolore e stenderà le sue mani verso questa casa,

what prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man his own plague and his own sorrow, and shall spread forth his hands toward this house:

30 t u esaudiscila dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, e perdona; rendi a ciascuno secondo le sue vie, tu che conosci il cuore di ognuno; tu solo infatti conosci il cuore dei figli degli uomini;

then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling-place and forgive, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of the children of men;)

31 a ffinché essi ti temano e camminino nelle tue vie tutto il tempo che vivranno nel paese che tu dèsti ai nostri padri!

that they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

32 A nche lo straniero, che non è del tuo popolo Israele, quando verrà da un paese lontano a causa del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio disteso; quando verrà a pregarti in questa casa,

Moreover concerning the foreigner, that is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thine outstretched arm; when they shall come and pray toward this house:

33 t u esaudiscilo dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, e concedi a questo straniero tutto quello che ti domanderà, affinché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome per temerti, come fa il tuo popolo Israele, e sappiano che il tuo nome è invocato su questa casa che io ho costruita.

then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

34 Q uando il tuo popolo partirà per far guerra al suo nemico, seguendo la via per la quale tu l’avrai mandato, se t’innalza preghiere rivolto a questa città, che tu hai scelta, e alla casa che io ho costruita al tuo nome,

If thy people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatsoever way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;

35 e saudisci dal cielo le sue preghiere e le sue suppliche e fagli ottenere giustizia.

then hear thou from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

36 Q uando peccheranno contro di te, infatti non c’è uomo che non pecchi, e tu, sdegnato contro di loro, li avrai abbandonati in balìa del nemico che li deporterà in un paese lontano o vicino,

If they sin against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not), and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive unto a land far off or near;

37 s e, nel paese dove saranno schiavi, rientrano in se stessi, se tornano a te e rivolgono suppliche nel paese della loro schiavitù, e dicono: “Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito empiamente, siamo stati malvagi”,

yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done perversely, and have dealt wickedly;

38 s e tornano a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nel paese della loro prigionia dove sono stati condotti schiavi, e ti pregano, rivolti al loro paese, il paese che tu dèsti ai loro padri, alla città che tu hai scelta e alla casa che ho costruita al tuo nome,

if they return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captive, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:

39 e saudisci dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e le loro suppliche, e fa’ ottenere loro giustizia; perdona il tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te.

then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee.

40 O ra, Dio mio, siano aperti i tuoi occhi e siano attente le tue orecchie alla preghiera fatta in questo luogo.

Now, O my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place.

41 E ora àlzati, o Signore, o Dio, vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l’arca della tua forza. I tuoi sacerdoti, o Signore, o Dio, siano rivestiti di salvezza, ed esultino nel bene i tuoi fedeli!

Now therefore arise, O Jehovah God, into thy resting-place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Jehovah God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

42 O Signore, o Dio, non respingere la faccia del tuo unto; ricòrdati delle grazie concesse a Davide, tuo servo».

O Jehovah God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember thy lovingkindnesses to David thy servant.
