1 L a bilancia falsa è un abominio per il Signore, ma il peso giusto gli è gradito.

A false balance is an abomination to Jehovah; But a just weight is his delight.

2 V enuta la superbia, viene anche l’infamia, ma la saggezza è con gli umili.

When pride cometh, then cometh shame; But with the lowly is wisdom.

3 L ’integrità degli uomini retti li guida, ma la perversità dei perfidi è la loro rovina.

The integrity of the upright shall guide them; But the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them.

4 L e ricchezze non servono a nulla nel giorno dell’ira, ma la giustizia salva dalla morte.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath; But righteousness delivereth from death.

5 L a giustizia dell’uomo integro gli appiana la via, ma l’empio cade per la sua empietà.

The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way; But the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

6 L a giustizia degli uomini retti li libera, ma i perfidi restano presi nella loro malizia.

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them; But the treacherous shall be taken in their own iniquity.

7 Q uando un empio muore, la sua speranza perisce, e l’attesa degli empi è annientata.

When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish; And the hope of iniquity perisheth.

8 I l giusto è salvato dalla tribolazione, e l’empio ne prende il posto.

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, And the wicked cometh in his stead.

9 C on la sua bocca l’ipocrita rovina il suo prossimo, ma i giusti sono liberati grazie alla loro scienza.

With his mouth the godless man destroyeth his neighbor; But through knowledge shall the righteous be delivered.

10 Q uando i giusti prosperano, la città gioisce; quando periscono gli empi sono grida di esultanza.

When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth; And when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

11 C on la benedizione dei giusti si costruisce una città, ma con la bocca degli empi essa viene diroccata.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted; But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

12 C hi disprezza il prossimo è privo di senno, ma l’uomo intelligente tace.

He that despiseth his neighbor is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

13 C hi va sparlando svela i segreti, ma chi ha lo spirito leale tiene celata la cosa.

He that goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; But he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth a matter.

14 Q uando manca una saggia direzione il popolo cade; nel gran numero dei consiglieri sta la salvezza.

Where no wise guidance is, the people falleth; But in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

15 C hi si fa garante per un altro ne soffre danno, ma chi odia farsi garante per la condotta altrui è tranquillo.

He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it; But he that hateth suretyship is secure.

16 L a donna che ha grazia riceve onore, e gli uomini forti ottengono la ricchezza.

A gracious woman obtaineth honor; And violent men obtain riches.

17 L ’uomo buono fa del bene a se stesso, ma il crudele tortura la sua propria carne.

The merciful man doeth good to his own soul; But he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.

18 L ’empio fa un’opera illusoria, ma chi semina giustizia ha una ricompensa sicura.

The wicked earneth deceitful wages; But he that soweth righteousness hath a sure reward.

19 C osì la giustizia conduce alla vita, ma chi va dietro al male si avvia verso la morte.

He that is stedfast in righteousness shall attain unto life; And he that pursueth evil doeth it to his own death.

20 I perversi di cuore sono un abominio per il Signore, ma gli integri nella loro condotta gli sono graditi.

They that are perverse in heart are an abomination to Jehovah; But such as are perfect in their way are his delight.

21 N o, certo, il malvagio non rimarrà impunito, ma la discendenza dei giusti scamperà.

Though hand join in hand, the evil man shall not be unpunished; But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

22 U na donna bella, ma senza giudizio, è un anello d’oro nel grifo di un porco.

As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, So is a fair woman that is without discretion.

23 I l desiderio dei giusti è il bene soltanto, ma la prospettiva degli empi è l’ira.

The desire of the righteous is only good; But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.

24 C ’è chi offre liberalmente e diventa più ricco, e c’è chi risparmia più del giusto e non fa che impoverire.

There is that scattereth, and increaseth yet more; And there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth only to want.

25 C hi è benefico sarà nell’abbondanza, e chi annaffia sarà egli pure annaffiato.

The liberal soul shall be made fat; And he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

26 C hi fa incetta del grano è maledetto dal popolo, ma la benedizione è sul capo di chi lo vende.

He that withholdeth grain, the people shall curse him; But blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

27 C hi si adopera per il bene si attira benevolenza, ma chi cerca il male, male lo colpirà.

He that diligently seeketh good seeketh favor; But he that searcheth after evil, it shall come unto him.

28 C hi confida nelle sue ricchezze cadrà, ma i giusti rinverdiranno come fogliame.

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; But the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.

29 C hi getta lo scompiglio in casa sua erediterà vento, e lo stolto sarà lo schiavo di chi ha il cuore saggio.

He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind; And the foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.

30 I l frutto del giusto è un albero di vita, e il saggio attira a sé le persone.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; And he that is wise winneth souls.

31 E cco, il giusto riceve la sua retribuzione sulla terra, quanto più l’empio e il peccatore!

Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: How much more the wicked and the sinner!
