1 I n quel tempo Ezechia si ammalò di una malattia che doveva condurlo alla morte. Il profeta Isaia, figlio di Amots, andò da lui e gli disse: «Così parla il Signore: “Da’ i tuoi ordini alla tua casa, perché tu morirai; non guarirai”».

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 A llora Ezechia voltò la faccia verso il muro e pregò il Signore, dicendo:

Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto Jehovah, saying,

3 « Signore ricòrdati, ti prego, che ho camminato davanti a te con fedeltà e con cuore integro, e che ho fatto ciò che è bene ai tuoi occhi». Ezechia scoppiò in un gran pianto.

Remember now, O Jehovah, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

4 I saia non era ancora giunto al centro della città, quando la parola del Signore gli fu rivolta in questi termini:

And it came to pass, before Isaiah was gone out into the middle part of the city, that the word of Jehovah came to him, saying,

5 « Torna indietro e di’ a Ezechia, principe del mio popolo: “Così parla il Signore, Dio di Davide, tuo padre: ‘Ho udito la tua preghiera, ho visto le tue lacrime; ecco, io ti guarisco; fra tre giorni salirai alla casa del Signore.

Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the prince of my people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of Jehovah.

6 A ggiungerò alla tua vita quindici anni, libererò te e questa città dalle mani del re d’Assiria e proteggerò questa città per amore di me stesso e per amore di Davide, mio servo’”».

And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

7 I saia disse: «Prendete un impiastro di fichi secchi!» Lo presero e lo misero sull’ulcera, e il re guarì.

And Isaiah said, Take a cake of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

8 E zechia aveva detto a Isaia: «Da quale segno riconoscerò che il Signore mi guarirà e che fra tre giorni salirò alla casa del Signore ?»

And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that Jehovah will heal me, and that I shall go up unto the house of Jehovah the third day?

9 E Isaia gli aveva risposto: «Eccoti da parte del Signore il segno da cui riconoscerai che il Signore adempirà la parola che ha pronunciata: “Vuoi tu che l’ombra si allunghi per dieci gradini ovvero retroceda di dieci gradini?”»

And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign unto thee from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?

10 E zechia rispose: «È facile che l’ombra s’allunghi per dieci gradini. No! L’ombra retroceda piuttosto di dieci gradini!»

And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to decline ten steps: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten steps.

11 I l profeta Isaia invocò il Signore, il quale fece retrocedere l’ombra di dieci gradini sui gradini di Acaz, sui quali era discesa. Arrivo di un’ambasciata da Babilonia

And Isaiah the prophet cried unto Jehovah; and he brought the shadow ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.

12 I n quel tempo Berodac-Baladan, figlio di Baladan, re di Babilonia, mandò una lettera e un dono a Ezechia, perché aveva sentito che Ezechia era stato ammalato.

At that time Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah; for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

13 E zechia diede udienza agli ambasciatori e mostrò loro le stanze dov’erano tutte le sue cose preziose, l’argento, l’oro, gli aromi, gli oli finissimi, il suo arsenale e tutto quello che si trovava nei suoi magazzini; non vi fu cosa, nel suo palazzo e in tutti i suoi domini, che Ezechia non mostrasse loro.

And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showed them not.

14 A llora il profeta Isaia andò dal re Ezechia e gli disse: «Che hanno detto quegli uomini? Da dove sono venuti?» Ezechia rispose: «Sono venuti da un paese lontano, da Babilonia».

Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon.

15 I saia disse: «Che hanno visto in casa tua?» Ezechia rispose: «Hanno visto tutto quello che c’è in casa mia; non c’è nulla nei miei tesori, che io non abbia mostrato loro».

And he said, What have they seen in thy house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them.

16 A llora Isaia disse a Ezechia: «Ascolta la parola del Signore:

And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of Jehovah.

17 “ Ecco, verranno giorni in cui tutto quello che c’è in casa tua e tutto quello che i tuoi padri hanno accumulato fino a oggi sarà trasportato a Babilonia e non ne rimarrà nulla”, dice il Signore.

Behold, the days come, that all that is in thy house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith Jehovah.

18 “ Saranno presi anche alcuni dei tuoi figli, generati da te, per farne degli eunuchi nel palazzo del re di Babilonia”».

And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, whom thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

19 E zechia rispose a Isaia: «La parola del Signore che tu hai pronunciata è buona». Poi aggiunse: «Sì, se almeno vi sarà pace e sicurezza durante la mia vita».

Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of Jehovah which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, Is it not so, if peace and truth shall be in my days?

20 I l rimanente delle azioni di Ezechia, tutte le sue prodezze e la costruzione del serbatoio e dell’acquedotto per portare l’acqua in città, sono cose scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda.

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

21 E zechia si addormentò con i suoi padri, e Manasse, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.

And Hezekiah slept with his fathers; and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
