1 Q uando furono vicini a Gerusalemme e giunsero a Betfage, presso il monte degli Ulivi, Gesù mandò due discepoli,

And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and came unto Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,

2 d icendo loro: «Andate nella borgata che è di fronte a voi; subito troverete un’asina legata e un puledro con essa; scioglieteli e conduceteli da me.

saying unto them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.

3 S e qualcuno vi dice qualcosa, direte che il Signore ne ha bisogno, e subito li manderà».

And if any one say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.

4 q uesto avvenne affinché si adempisse la parola del profeta:

Now this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

5 « Dite alla figlia di Sion: “Ecco, il tuo re viene a te, mansueto e montato sopra un’asina, sopra un asinello, puledro d’asina”».

Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, Meek, and riding upon an ass, And upon a colt the foal of an ass.

6 I discepoli andarono e fecero come Gesù aveva loro ordinato;

And the disciples went, and did even as Jesus appointed them,

7 c ondussero l’asina e il puledro, vi misero sopra i mantelli e Gesù vi si pose a sedere.

and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon.

8 L a maggior parte della folla stese i mantelli sulla via; altri tagliavano dei rami dagli alberi e li stendevano sulla via.

And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way.

9 L e folle che lo precedevano e quelle che seguivano gridavano: «Osanna al Figlio di Davide! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore! Osanna nei luoghi altissimi!»

And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

10 Q uando fu entrato in Gerusalemme, tutta la città fu scossa, e si diceva: «Chi è costui?»

And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, Who is this?

11 E le folle dicevano: «Questi è Gesù, il profeta che viene da Nazaret di Galilea». Gesù scaccia i mercanti dal tempio

And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.

12 G esù entrò nel tempio e ne scacciò tutti quelli che vendevano e compravano; rovesciò le tavole dei cambiamonete e le sedie dei venditori di colombi.

And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of he money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves;

13 E disse loro: «È scritto: “La mia casa sarà chiamata casa di preghiera”, ma voi ne fate un covo di ladri ».

and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers.

14 A llora vennero a lui, nel tempio, dei ciechi e degli zoppi, ed egli li guarì.

And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

15 M a i capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi, vedute le meraviglie che aveva fatte e i bambini che gridavano nel tempio: «Osanna al Figlio di Davide!», ne furono indignati

But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children that were crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were moved with indignation,

16 e gli dissero: «Odi tu quello che dicono costoro?» Gesù disse loro: «Sì. Non avete mai letto: “Dalla bocca dei bambini e dei lattanti hai tratto lode” ?»

and said unto him, Hearest thou what these are saying? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea: did ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou has perfected praise?

17 E , lasciatili, se ne andò fuori dalla città, a Betania, dove passò la notte. Il fico sterile

And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

18 L a mattina, tornando in città, ebbe fame.

Now in the morning as he returned to the city, he hungered.

19 E , vedendo un fico sulla strada, gli si accostò, ma non vi trovò altro che foglie; e gli disse: «Mai più nasca frutto da te, in eterno». E subito il fico si seccò.

And seeing a fig tree by the way side, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only; and he saith unto it, Let there be no fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away.

20 I discepoli, veduto ciò, si meravigliarono, dicendo: «Come mai il fico è diventato secco in un attimo?»

And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How did the fig tree immediately wither away?

21 G esù rispose loro: «Io vi dico in verità: se aveste fede e non dubitaste, non soltanto fareste quello che è stato fatto al fico; ma se anche diceste a questo monte: “Togliti di là e gettati nel mare”, sarebbe fatto.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea, it shall be done.

22 T utte le cose che domanderete in preghiera, se avete fede, le otterrete». Dubbio sull’autorità di Gesù

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

23 Q uando giunse nel tempio, i capi dei sacerdoti e gli anziani del popolo si accostarono a lui, mentre egli insegnava, e gli dissero: «Con quale autorità fai tu queste cose? E chi ti ha dato questa autorità?»

And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

24 G esù rispose loro: «Anch’io vi farò una domanda; se voi mi rispondete, vi dirò anch’io con quale autorità faccio queste cose.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

25 I l battesimo di Giovanni da dove veniva? Dal cielo o dagli uomini?» Ed essi ragionavano tra di loro: «Se diciamo: “dal cielo”, egli ci dirà: “Perché dunque non gli credeste?”

The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?

26 S e diciamo: “dagli uomini”, temiamo la folla, perché tutti ritengono Giovanni un profeta».

But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet.

27 R isposero dunque a Gesù: «Non lo sappiamo». E anch’egli disse loro: «E neppure io vi dico con quale autorità faccio queste cose. Parabola dei due figli

And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

28 « Che ve ne pare? Un uomo aveva due figli. Avvicinatosi al primo, disse: “Figliolo, va’ a lavorare nella vigna oggi”.

But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard.

29 E d egli rispose: “Non ne ho voglia”; ma poi, pentitosi, vi andò.

And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went.

30 A vvicinatosi all’altro, disse la stessa cosa. Egli rispose: “Vado, signore”; ma non vi andò.

And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

31 Q uale dei due fece la volontà del padre?» Essi dissero: «Il primo». E Gesù a loro: «Io vi dico in verità: i pubblicani e le prostitute entrano prima di voi nel regno di Dio.

Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

32 P oiché Giovanni è venuto a voi per la via della giustizia, e voi non gli avete creduto; ma i pubblicani e le prostitute gli hanno creduto; e voi, che avete visto questo, non vi siete pentiti neppure dopo per credere a lui. Parabola dei malvagi vignaiuoli

For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

33 « Udite un’altra parabola: c’era un padrone di casa, il quale piantò una vigna, le fece attorno una siepe, vi scavò una buca per pigiare l’uva e vi costruì una torre; poi l’affittò a dei vignaiuoli e se ne andò in viaggio.

Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country.

34 Q uando fu vicina la stagione dei frutti, mandò i suoi servi dai vignaiuoli per riceverne i frutti.

And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits.

35 M a i vignaiuoli presero i servi e ne picchiarono uno, ne uccisero un altro e un altro lo lapidarono.

And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

36 D a capo mandò degli altri servi, in numero maggiore dei primi; ma quelli li trattarono allo stesso modo.

Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner.

37 A lla fine mandò loro suo figlio, dicendo: “Avranno rispetto per mio figlio”.

But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

38 M a i vignaiuoli, veduto il figlio, dissero tra di loro: “Costui è l’erede; venite, uccidiamolo e facciamo nostra la sua eredità”.

But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance.

39 L o presero, lo cacciarono fuori dalla vigna e lo uccisero.

And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him.

40 Q uando verrà il padrone della vigna, che farà a quei vignaiuoli?»

When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

41 E ssi gli risposero: «Li farà perire malamente, quei malvagi, e affitterà la vigna ad altri vignaiuoli i quali gli renderanno i frutti a suo tempo».

They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

42 G esù disse loro: «Non avete mai letto nelle Scritture: “La pietra che i costruttori hanno rifiutata è diventata pietra angolare; ciò è stato fatto dal Signore, ed è cosa meravigliosa agli occhi nostri” ?

Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner; This was from the Lord, And it is marvelous in our eyes?

43 P erciò vi dico che il regno di Dio vi sarà tolto e sarà dato a gente che ne faccia i frutti.

Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

44 { Chi cadrà su questa pietra sarà sfracellato; ed essa stritolerà colui sul quale cadrà».}

And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.

45 I capi dei sacerdoti e i farisei, udite le sue parabole, capirono che parlava di loro;

And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.

46 e cercavano di prenderlo, ma ebbero paura della folla, che lo riteneva un profeta.

And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.
