1 H e went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him.

Jesús se marchó de allí y llegó a Su pueblo, y Sus discípulos Lo siguieron.

2 W hen the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?” and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?

Cuando llegó el día de reposo, comenzó a enseñar en la sinagoga; y muchos que escuchaban se asombraban, diciendo: “¿Dónde obtuvo Este tales cosas, y cuál es esta sabiduría que Le ha sido dada, y estos milagros que hace con Sus manos?

3 I sn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were offended at him.

¿No es Este el carpintero, el hijo de María, y hermano de Jacobo (Santiago), José, Judas y Simón ? ¿No están Sus hermanas aquí con nosotros?” Y se escandalizaban a causa de El.

4 J esus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.”

Y Jesús les dijo: “No hay profeta sin honra sino en su propia tierra, y entre sus parientes y en su casa.”

5 H e could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them.

Y no pudo hacer allí ningún milagro; sólo sanó a unos pocos enfermos sobre los cuales puso Sus manos.

6 H e marveled because of their unbelief. He went around the villages teaching.

Estaba maravillado de la incredulidad de ellos. Y recorría las aldeas de alrededor enseñando. Jesús Envía a los Doce

7 H e called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.

Entonces Jesús llamó a los doce y comenzó a enviarlos de dos en dos, dándoles autoridad (poder) sobre los espíritus inmundos;

8 H e commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no wallet, no money in their purse,

y les ordenó que no llevaran nada para el camino, sino sólo un bordón; ni pan, ni alforja, ni dinero en el cinto;

9 b ut to wear sandals, and not put on two tunics.

sino calzados con sandalias. “No lleven dos túnicas,” les dijo.

10 H e said to them, “Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there.

Y añadió: “Dondequiera que entren en una casa, quédense en ella hasta que salgan de la población.

11 W hoever will not receive you nor hear you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them. Assuredly, I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”

En cualquier lugar que no los reciban ni los escuchen, al salir de allí, sacúdanse el polvo de la planta de los pies en testimonio contra ellos.”

12 T hey went out and preached that people should repent.

Saliendo los doce, predicaban que todos se arrepintieran.

13 T hey cast out many demons, and anointed many with oil who were sick, and healed them.

También echaban fuera muchos demonios, y ungían con aceite a muchos enfermos y los sanaban. Muerte de Juan el Bautista

14 K ing Herod heard this, for his name had become known, and he said, “John the Baptizer has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”

El rey Herodes (Antipas) se enteró de esto, pues el nombre de Jesús se había hecho célebre, y la gente decía: “Juan el Bautista ha resucitado de entre los muertos, por eso es que estos poderes milagrosos actúan en él.”

15 B ut others said, “He is Elijah.” Others said, “He is a prophet, or like one of the prophets.”

Pero otros decían: “Es Elías.” Y decían otros: “Es un profeta, como uno de los profetas antiguos ”.

16 B ut Herod, when he heard this, said, “This is John, whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead.”

Al oír esto, Herodes decía: “Juan, a quien yo decapité, ha resucitado.”

17 F or Herod himself had sent out and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for he had married her.

Porque Herodes (Antipas) mismo había enviado a prender a Juan y lo había encadenado en la cárcel por causa de Herodías, mujer de su hermano Felipe, pues Herodes se había casado con ella.

18 F or John said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”

Y Juan le decía a Herodes: “No te es lícito tener la mujer de tu hermano.”

19 H erodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him, but she couldn’t,

Herodías le tenía rencor y deseaba matarlo, pero no podía,

20 f or Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.

porque Herodes temía a Juan, sabiendo que era un hombre justo y santo, y lo mantenía protegido. Cuando le oía se quedaba muy perplejo, pero le gustaba escucharlo.

21 T hen a convenient day came, that Herod on his birthday made a supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.

Llegó un día oportuno, cuando Herodes, siendo su cumpleaños, ofreció un banquete a sus nobles y comandantes y a los principales de Galilea;

22 W hen the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting with him. The king said to the young lady, “Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.”

y cuando la hija de Herodías (Salomé) entró y danzó, agradó a Herodes y a los que se sentaban a la mesa con él; y el rey dijo a la muchacha: “Pídeme lo que quieras y te lo daré.”

23 H e swore to her, “Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom.”

Y le juró: “Te daré lo que me pidas, hasta la mitad de mi reino.”

24 S he went out, and said to her mother, “What shall I ask?” She said, “The head of John the Baptizer.”

Ella salió y dijo a su madre: “¿Qué pediré?” “La cabeza de Juan el Bautista,” le respondió ella.

25 S he came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked, “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptizer on a platter.”

Enseguida ella se presentó apresuradamente ante el rey con su petición, diciendo: “Quiero que me des ahora mismo la cabeza de Juan el Bautista en una bandeja.”

26 T he king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths, and of his dinner guests, he didn’t wish to refuse her.

Aunque el rey se puso muy triste, sin embargo a causa de sus juramentos y de los que se sentaban con él a la mesa, no quiso contradecirla.

27 I mmediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring John’s head, and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

Al instante el rey envió a un verdugo y le ordenó que trajera la cabeza de Juan. Y él fue y lo decapitó en la cárcel,

28 a nd brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the young lady; and the young lady gave it to her mother.

y trajo su cabeza en una bandeja, y se la dio a la muchacha, y la muchacha se la dio a su madre.

29 W hen his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

Cuando los discípulos de Juan oyeron esto, fueron y se llevaron el cuerpo y le dieron sepultura. Alimentación de los Cinco Mil

30 T he apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus, and they told him all things, whatever they had done, and whatever they had taught.

Los apóstoles se reunieron con Jesús, y Le informaron sobre todo lo que habían hecho y enseñado.

31 H e said to them, “You come apart into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Y El les dijo: “Vengan, apártense de los demás a un lugar solitario y descansen un poco.” Porque había muchos que iban y venían, y ellos no tenían tiempo ni siquiera para comer.

32 T hey went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.

Y se fueron en la barca a un lugar solitario, apartado.

33 T hey saw them going, and many recognized him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to him.

Pero la gente los vio salir, y muchos los reconocieron y juntos corrieron allá a pie de todas las ciudades, y llegaron antes que ellos.

34 J esus came out, saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things.

Al desembarcar, Jesús vio una gran multitud, y tuvo compasión de ellos, porque eran como ovejas sin pastor; y comenzó a enseñarles muchas cosas.

35 W hen it was late in the day, his disciples came to him, and said, “This place is deserted, and it is late in the day.

Y cuando ya era muy tarde, Sus discípulos se acercaron a El, diciendo: “El lugar está desierto y ya es muy tarde;

36 S end them away, that they may go into the surrounding country and villages, and buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat.”

despídelos para que vayan a los campos y aldeas de alrededor, y se compren algo de comer.”

37 B ut he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give them something to eat?”

“Denles ustedes de comer,” les contestó Jesús. Y ellos Le dijeron: “¿ Quieres que vayamos y compremos 200 denarios (salario de 200 días) de pan y les demos de comer ?”

38 H e said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go see.” When they knew, they said, “Five, and two fish.”

Jesús les dijo: “¿Cuántos panes tienen ustedes? Vayan y vean.” Y cuando se cercioraron le dijeron: “Cinco panes y dos peces.”

39 H e commanded them that everyone should sit down in groups on the green grass.

Y les mandó que todos se recostaran por grupos sobre la hierba verde.

40 T hey sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.

Y se recostaron por grupos de cien y de cincuenta.

41 H e took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves, and he gave to his disciples to set before them, and he divided the two fish among them all.

Entonces El tomó los cinco panes y los dos peces, y levantando los ojos al cielo, los bendijo; partió los panes y los iba dando a los discípulos para que se los sirvieran; también repartió los dos peces entre todos.

42 T hey all ate, and were filled.

Todos comieron y se saciaron.

43 T hey took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and also of the fish.

Recogieron doce cestas llenas de los pedazos, y también de los peces.

44 T hose who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

Los que comieron los panes eran 5, 000 hombres. Jesús Anda sobre el Mar

45 I mmediately he made his disciples get into the boat, and to go ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he himself sent the multitude away.

Enseguida Jesús hizo que Sus discípulos subieran a la barca y fueran delante de El al otro lado, a Betsaida, mientras El despedía a la multitud.

46 A fter he had taken leave of them, he went up the mountain to pray.

Después de despedirse de ellos, se fue al monte a orar.

47 W hen evening had come, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on the land.

Al anochecer, la barca estaba en medio del mar, y El estaba solo en tierra.

48 S eeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea, and he would have passed by them,

Y al verlos remar fatigados, porque el viento les era contrario, como a la cuarta vigilia de la noche (3 a 6 a. m.), fue hacia ellos andando sobre el mar, y quería pasarlos de largo.

49 b ut they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;

Pero cuando ellos Lo vieron andando sobre el mar, pensaron que era un fantasma y se pusieron a gritar;

50 f or they all saw him, and were troubled. But he immediately spoke with them, and said to them, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”

porque todos Lo vieron y se turbaron. Pero enseguida El habló con ellos y les dijo: “¡Tengan ánimo; soy Yo, no teman!”

51 H e got into the boat with them; and the wind ceased, and they were very amazed among themselves, and marveled;

Subió con ellos a la barca, y el viento se calmó; y ellos estaban asombrados en gran manera,

52 f or they hadn’t understood about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.

porque no habían entendido lo de los panes, sino que su mente estaba embotada. Jesús en Genesaret

53 W hen they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.

Terminada la travesía, llegaron a tierra en Genesaret, y atracaron en la orilla.

54 W hen they had come out of the boat, immediately the people recognized him,

Cuando salieron de la barca, la gente enseguida reconoció a Jesús,

55 a nd ran around that whole region, and began to bring those who were sick, on their mats, to where they heard he was.

y recorrieron apresuradamente toda aquella región, y comenzaron a traer a los enfermos en sus camillas adonde oían decir que El estaba.

56 W herever he entered, into villages, or into cities, or into the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch just the fringe of his garment; and as many as touched him were made well.

Dondequiera que El entraba en aldeas, ciudades o campos, ponían a los enfermos en las plazas, y Le rogaban que les permitiera tocar siquiera el borde de Su manto; y todos los que lo tocaban quedaban curados.
