1 Y ou therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Tú, pues, hijo mío, fortalécete en la gracia que hay en Cristo Jesús.

2 T he things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

Y lo que has oído de mí en la presencia de muchos testigos, eso encarga (confía) a hombres fieles que sean capaces de enseñar también a otros.

3 Y ou therefore must endure hardship, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

Sufre penalidades conmigo, como buen soldado de Cristo Jesús.

4 N o soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

El soldado en servicio activo no se enreda en los negocios de la vida diaria, a fin de poder agradar al que lo reclutó como soldado.

5 A lso, if anyone competes in athletics, he isn’t crowned unless he has competed by the rules.

También el que compite como atleta, no gana el premio si no compite de acuerdo con las reglas.

6 T he farmers who labor must be the first to get a share of the crops.

El labrador que trabaja debe ser el primero en recibir su parte de los frutos (de la cosecha).

7 C onsider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.

Considera lo que digo, pues el Señor te dará entendimiento en todo.

8 R emember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the offspring of David, according to my Good News,

Acuérdate de Jesucristo, resucitado de entre los muertos, descendiente de David, conforme a mi evangelio,

9 i n which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God’s word isn’t chained.

por el cual sufro penalidades, hasta el encarcelamiento como un malhechor. Pero la palabra de Dios no está presa.

10 T herefore I endure all things for the chosen ones’ sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Por tanto, todo lo soporto por amor a los escogidos, para que también ellos obtengan la salvación que está en Cristo Jesús, y con ella gloria eterna.

11 T his saying is trustworthy: “For if we died with him, we will also live with him.

Palabra fiel es ésta: Que si morimos con El, también viviremos con El;

12 I f we endure, we will also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us.

Si perseveramos, también reinaremos con El; Si Lo negamos, El también nos negará;

13 I f we are faithless, he remains faithful. He can’t deny himself.”

Si somos infieles (incrédulos), El permanece fiel, pues no puede negarse El mismo. El Buen Obrero de Dios

14 R emind them of these things, charging them in the sight of the Lord, that they don’t argue about words, to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.

Recuérda les esto, encargándo les solemnemente en la presencia de Dios, que no discutan sobre palabras, lo cual para nada aprovecha y lleva a los oyentes a la ruina.

15 G ive diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.

Procura con diligencia presentarte a Dios aprobado, como obrero que no tiene de qué avergonzarse, que maneja con precisión la palabra de verdad.

16 B ut shun empty chatter, for it will go further in ungodliness,

Evita las palabrerías vacías y profanas, porque los dados a ellas, conducirán más y más a la impiedad,

17 a nd those words will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

y su palabra (conversación) se extenderá como gangrena. Entre ellos están Himeneo y Fileto,

18 m en who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.

que se han desviado de la verdad diciendo que la resurrección ya tuvo lugar, trastornando así la fe de algunos.

19 H owever God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”

No obstante, el sólido fundamento de Dios permanece firme, teniendo este sello: “El Señor conoce a los que son Suyos,” y: “Que se aparte de la iniquidad todo aquél que menciona el nombre del Señor.”

20 N ow in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for dishonor.

Ahora bien, en una casa grande no solamente hay vasos de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro, y unos para honra y otros para deshonra.

21 I f anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the master’s use, prepared for every good work.

Por tanto, si alguien se limpia de estas cosas, será un vaso para honra, santificado, útil para el Señor, preparado para toda buena obra.

22 F lee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Huye, pues, de las pasiones juveniles y sigue (busca) la justicia, la fe, el amor y la paz, con los que invocan al Señor con un corazón puro.

23 B ut refuse foolish and ignorant questionings, knowing that they generate strife.

Pero rechaza los razonamientos necios e ignorantes, sabiendo que producen altercados (peleas).

24 T he Lord’s servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient,

El siervo del Señor no debe ser rencilloso, sino amable para con todos, apto para enseñar, sufrido.

25 i n gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,

Debe reprender tiernamente a los que se oponen, por si acaso Dios les da el arrepentimiento que conduce al pleno conocimiento de la verdad,

26 a nd they may recover themselves out of the devil’s snare, having been taken captive by him to his will.

y volviendo en sí, escapen del lazo del diablo, habiendo estado cautivos de él para hacer su voluntad.
