1 T he whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.

Toda la asamblea de ellos se levantó, y llevaron a Jesús ante Pilato.

2 T hey began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”

Y comenzaron a acusar a Jesús, diciendo: “Hemos hallado que éste pervierte a nuestra nación, prohibiendo pagar impuesto al César, y diciendo que El mismo es Cristo (el Mesías), un Rey.”

3 P ilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”

Pilato preguntó a Jesús: “¿Eres Tú el Rey de los Judíos?” “Tú lo dices,” le respondió Jesús.

4 P ilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”

Entonces Pilato dijo a los principales sacerdotes y a la multitud: “No encuentro delito en este hombre.”

5 B ut they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”

Pero ellos insistían, diciendo: “El alborota al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta aquí.”

6 B ut when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.

Cuando Pilato oyó esto, preguntó si el hombre era Galileo.

7 W hen he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.

Al saber que Jesús pertenecía a la jurisdicción de Herodes (Antipas), Lo remitió a Herodes, que también estaba en Jerusalén en aquellos días. Jesús Ante Herodes

8 N ow when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.

Al ver a Jesús, Herodes se alegró en gran manera, pues hacía mucho tiempo que Lo quería ver por lo que había oído hablar de El, y esperaba ver alguna señal que El hiciera.

9 H e questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.

Lo interrogó extensamente, pero Jesús nada le respondió.

10 T he chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.

Los principales sacerdotes y los escribas también estaban allí, y Lo acusaban con vehemencia.

11 H erod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.

Entonces Herodes, con sus soldados, después de tratar a Jesús con desprecio y burlarse de El, Lo vistieron con un espléndido manto. Después Herodes Lo envió de nuevo a Pilato.

12 H erod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.

Aquel mismo día Herodes y Pilato se hicieron amigos, pues antes habían estado enemistados el uno con el otro. Pilato Condena a Jesús

13 P ilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

Pilato convocó a los principales sacerdotes, a los gobernantes y al pueblo,

14 a nd said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and see, I have examined him before you, and found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.

y les dijo: “Me han presentado a este hombre como uno que incita al pueblo a la rebelión, pero habiéndolo interrogado yo delante de ustedes, no he hallado ningún delito en este hombre de las acusaciones que hacen contra El.

15 N either has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.

Ni tampoco Herodes, pues nos Lo ha remitido de nuevo; ya que nada ha hecho que merezca la muerte.

16 I will therefore chastise him and release him.”

Por tanto, Lo voy a castigar y después, Lo soltaré.”

17 N ow he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.

Y tenía obligación de soltarles un preso en cada fiesta.

18 B ut they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—

Pero todos ellos gritaron a una: “¡ Fuera con éste, y suéltanos a Barrabás!”

19 o ne who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.

Barrabás había sido echado en la cárcel por un levantamiento ocurrido en la ciudad, y por homicidio.

20 T hen Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,

Pilato, queriendo soltar a Jesús, les volvió a hablar,

21 b ut they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”

pero ellos continuaban gritando: “¡Crucifícalo! ¡Crucifícalo!”

22 H e said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”

Y él les dijo por tercera vez: “¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho Este? No he hallado en El ningún delito digno de muerte; por tanto, Lo castigaré y Lo soltaré.”

23 B ut they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.

Pero ellos insistían, pidiendo a grandes voces que fuera crucificado, y sus voces comenzaron a predominar.

24 P ilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.

Entonces Pilato decidió que se les concediera su demanda.

25 H e released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.

Y soltó al que ellos pedían, al que había sido echado en la cárcel por insurrección y homicidio, pero entregó a Jesús a la voluntad de ellos. Jesús se Dirige al Calvario

26 W hen they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it after Jesus.

Cuando Lo llevaban, tomaron a un tal Simón de Cirene que venía del campo y le pusieron la cruz encima para que la llevara detrás de Jesús.

27 A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.

Y seguía a Jesús una gran multitud del pueblo y de mujeres que lloraban y se lamentaban por El.

28 B ut Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

Pero Jesús, volviéndose a ellas, dijo: “Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloren por Mí; lloren más bien por ustedes mismas y por sus hijos.

29 F or behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’

Porque vienen días en que dirán: ‘Dichosas (Bienaventuradas) las estériles, los vientres que nunca concibieron y los senos que nunca criaron.’

30 T hen they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’

Entonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: ‘Caigan sobre nosotros;’ y a los collados: ‘Cubrannos.’

31 F or if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”

Porque si en el árbol verde hacen esto, ¿qué sucederá en el seco?”

32 T here were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.

También llevaban a otros dos, que eran malhechores, para ser muertos con El. La Crucifixión

33 W hen they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

Cuando llegaron al lugar llamado ‘La Calavera,’ crucificaron allí a Jesús y a los malhechores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.

34 J esus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.

Y Jesús decía: “Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen.” Y los soldados echaron suertes, repartiéndose entre sí Sus vestidos.

35 T he people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”

El pueblo estaba allí mirando; y aun los gobernantes se burlaban de El, diciendo: “A otros salvó; que se salve El mismo si Este es el Cristo (el Mesías) de Dios, Su Escogido.”

36 T he soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,

Los soldados también se burlaban de Jesús, y se acercaban a El y Le ofrecían vinagre,

37 a nd saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”

diciendo: “Si Tú eres el Rey de los Judíos, sálvate a Ti mismo.”

38 A n inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

Había también una inscripción sobre El, que decía: “ESTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS.” Los Dos Malhechores

39 O ne of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”

Uno de los malhechores que estaban colgados allí Le lanzaba insultos (blasfemias), diciendo: “¿No eres Tú el Cristo? ¡Sálvate a Ti mismo y a nosotros!”

40 B ut the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

Pero el otro le contestó, y reprendiéndolo, dijo: “¿Ni siquiera temes tú a Dios a pesar de que estás bajo la misma condena?

41 A nd we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”

Nosotros a la verdad, justamente, porque recibimos lo que merecemos por nuestros hechos; pero éste nada malo ha hecho.”

42 H e said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

Y añadió: “Jesús, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en Tu reino.”

43 J esus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Entonces Jesús le dijo: “En verdad te digo: hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso.” Muerte de Jesús

44 I t was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.

Era ya como la hora sexta (mediodía), cuando descendieron tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena (3 p. m.),

45 T he sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

al eclipsarse el sol. El velo del templo se rasgó en dos.

46 J esus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.

Y Jesús, clamando a gran voz, dijo: “Padre, en Tus manos encomiendo Mi espiritu.” Habiendo dicho esto, expiró.

47 W hen the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.”

Al ver el centurión lo que había sucedido, glorificaba a Dios, diciendo: “Ciertamente, este hombre era inocente (justo).”

48 A ll the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their breasts.

Todas las multitudes que se habían reunido para presenciar este espectáculo, al observar lo que había acontecido, se volvieron golpeándose el pecho.

49 A ll his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

Pero todos los conocidos de Jesús y las mujeres que Lo habían acompañado desde Galilea, estaban a cierta distancia viendo estas cosas. Sepultura de Jesús

50 B ehold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man

Había un hombre llamado José, miembro del Concilio (Sanedrín), varón bueno y justo,

51 ( he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom:

el cual no había estado de acuerdo con el plan y el proceder de los demás, que era de Arimatea, ciudad de los Judíos, y que esperaba el reino de Dios.

52 t his man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.

Este fue a Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús,

53 H e took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.

y bajándolo, lo envolvió en un lienzo de lino, y lo puso en un sepulcro excavado en la roca donde nadie había sido puesto todavía.

54 I t was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.

Era el día de la preparación, y estaba para comenzar el día de reposo.

55 T he women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.

Y las mujeres que habían venido con Jesús desde Galilea siguieron detrás, y vieron el sepulcro y cómo fue colocado Su cuerpo.

56 T hey returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

Cuando regresaron, prepararon especias aromáticas y perfumes. Y en el día de reposo descansaron según el mandamiento.
