1 A fter these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.

Después de estos actos de fidelidad, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, vino e invadió a Judá y sitió las ciudades fortificadas, y mandó conquistarlas para sí.

2 W hen Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,

Cuando Ezequías vio que Senaquerib había venido y que se proponía hacer guerra contra Jerusalén,

3 h e took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city; and they helped him.

decidió con sus oficiales y guerreros cortar el agua de las fuentes que estaban fuera de la ciudad, y ellos lo ayudaron.

4 S o many people gathered together, and they stopped all the springs, and the brook that flowed through the middle of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?”

Y se reunió mucha gente y cegaron todas las fuentes y el arroyo que fluía por la región, diciendo: “¿Por qué han de venir los reyes de Asiria y hallar tanta agua?”

5 H e took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in David’s city, and made weapons and shields in abundance.

Y Ezequías cobró ánimo y reedificó toda la muralla que había sido derribada y levantó torres en ella, edificó otra muralla exterior, fortificó el Milo en la ciudad de David, e hizo armas arrojadizas y escudos en gran cantidad.

6 H e set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the wide place at the gate of the city, and spoke comfortably to them, saying,

Puso también oficiales militares sobre el pueblo, los reunió a su lado en la plaza a la puerta de la ciudad y les habló dándoles ánimo:

7 “ Be strong and courageous, don’t be afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him.

“Sean fuertes y valientes; no teman ni se acobarden a causa del rey de Asiria, ni a causa de toda la multitud que está con él, porque el que está con nosotros es más poderoso que el que está con él.

8 W ith him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Yahweh our God to help us, and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Con él está sólo un brazo de carne, pero con nosotros está el Señor nuestro Dios para ayudarnos y pelear nuestras batallas.” Y el pueblo confió en las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.

9 A fter this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,

Después de esto, mientras Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, estaba sitiando Laquis con todas sus fuerzas, envió a sus siervos a Jerusalén, a decirle a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén:

10 T hus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?

“Así dice Senaquerib, rey de Asiria: ‘¿En qué están ustedes confiando para que permanezcan bajo sitio en Jerusalén?

11 D oesn’t Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘Yahweh our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?’

¿No los engaña Ezequías para entregarlos a morir de hambre y de sed, diciéndoles: “El Señor nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria?”

12 H asn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn incense?’

¿Acaso no es el mismo Ezequías el que ha quitado Sus lugares altos y Sus altares, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalén: “Delante de un solo altar ustedes adorarán, y sobre él quemarán incienso?”

13 D on’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?

¿No saben lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho a todos los pueblos de estas tierras? ¿Pudieron los dioses de las naciones de las tierras librar su tierra de mi mano?

14 W ho was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?

¿Quién de entre todos los dioses de aquellas naciones que mis padres destruyeron completamente pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano, para que el Dios de ustedes pueda librarlos de mi mano ?

15 N ow therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, neither believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”

Ahora pues, no dejen que Ezequías los engañe y los extravíe en esta forma. No crean en él, porque ningún dios de ninguna nación ni reino pudo librar a su pueblo de mi mano ni de la mano de mis padres. ¡Cuánto menos los librará de mi mano el Dios de ustedes!’”

16 H is servants spoke yet more against Yahweh God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

Y los siervos de Senaquerib hablaron aún más contra el Señor Dios y contra su siervo Ezequías.

17 H e also wrote letters insulting Yahweh, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”

También Senaquerib escribió cartas para insultar al Señor, Dios de Israel, y para hablar contra El, en que decía: “Como los dioses de las naciones de las tierras no han librado a sus pueblos de mi mano, así el Dios de Ezequías no librará a Su pueblo de mi mano.”

18 T hey cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

Proclamaron esto a gran voz en la lengua de Judá al pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba sobre la muralla, para espantarlos y aterrorizarlos, para así poder tomar la ciudad.

19 T hey spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.

Y hablaron del Dios de Jerusalén como de los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.

20 H ezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.

Pero el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, oraron sobre esto, y clamaron al cielo.

21 Y ahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own bowels killed him there with the sword.

El Señor envió un ángel que destruyó a todo guerrero valiente, comandante y capitán en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Así regresó avergonzado a su propia tierra. Y cuando entró al templo de su dios, algunos de sus propios hijos lo mataron allí a espada.

22 T hus Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.

Así salvó el Señor a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de mano de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de mano de todos los demás, y los guió por todas partes.

23 M any brought gifts to Yahweh to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

Y muchos traían presentes al Señor en Jerusalén y presentes valiosos a Ezequías, rey de Judá, de modo que después de esto fue engrandecido delante de todas las naciones.

24 I n those days Hezekiah was sick even to death: and he prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.

En aquellos días Ezequías cayó enfermo de muerte; y oró al Señor, y El le habló y le dio una señal.

25 B ut Hezekiah didn’t render again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.

Pero Ezequías no correspondió al bien que había recibido, porque su corazón era orgulloso; por tanto, la ira vino sobre él, sobre Judá y sobre Jerusalén.

26 N otwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that Yahweh’s wrath didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

Pero después Ezequías se humilló, quitando el orgullo de su corazón, tanto él como los habitantes de Jerusalén, de modo que no vino sobre ellos la ira del Señor en los días de Ezequías.

27 H ezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor: and he provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all kinds of goodly vessels;

Ezequías tenía inmensas riquezas y honores. Hizo para sí depósitos para plata, oro, piedras preciosas, especias, escudos y toda clase de objetos de valor.

28 s torehouses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.

Hizo también almacenes para el producto de granos, vino y aceite, corrales para toda clase de ganado y rediles para los rebaños.

29 M oreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance.

El edificó ciudades y adquirió rebaños y ganados en abundancia, porque Dios le había dado muchísimas riquezas.

30 T his same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of David’s city. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

Ezequías fue el que cegó la salida superior de las aguas de Gihón y las condujo al lado occidental de la ciudad de David. Ezequías prosperó en todo lo que hizo.

31 H owever concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

Aun en el asunto de los enviados por los gobernantes de Babilonia, que los mandaron a él para investigar la maravilla que había acontecido en el país, Dios lo dejó solo para probarlo, a fin de saber todo lo que había en su corazón.

32 N ow the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

Los demás hechos de Ezequías y sus obras piadosas, están escritos en la visión del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, y en el Libro de los Reyes de Judá y de Israel.

33 H ezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

Ezequías durmió con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la parte superior de los sepulcros de los hijos de David; y todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén le rindieron honores en su muerte. Y su hijo Manasés reinó en su lugar.
