1 I mmediately, in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate.

Muy de mañana, los principales sacerdotes prepararon enseguida una reunión con los ancianos, los escribas y todo el Concilio (Sanedrín); y atando a Jesús, Lo llevaron y Lo entregaron a Pilato.

2 T hen Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered and said to him, “ It is as you say.”

“ ¿Eres Tú el Rey de los Judíos?” le preguntó Pilato. “Tú lo dices,” respondió Jesús

3 A nd the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He answered nothing.

Y los principales sacerdotes Lo acusaban de muchas cosas.

4 T hen Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You!”

De nuevo Pilato Le preguntó: “¿No respondes nada? Mira de cuántas cosas Te acusan.”

5 B ut Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled. Taking the Place of Barabbas

Pero Jesús no respondió nada más; de modo que Pilato estaba asombrado. Jesús o Barrabás

6 N ow at the feast he was accustomed to releasing one prisoner to them, whomever they requested.

Ahora bien, en cada fiesta Pilato acostumbraba soltarles un preso, el que ellos pidieran.

7 A nd there was one named Barabbas, who was chained with his fellow rebels; they had committed murder in the rebellion.

Y uno llamado Barrabás había sido encarcelado con los rebeldes que habían cometido homicidio en la insurrección.

8 T hen the multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do just as he had always done for them.

Cuando la multitud subió, comenzó a pedirle a Pilato que hiciera como siempre les había hecho.

9 B ut Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

Entonces Pilato les preguntó: “¿Quieren que les suelte al Rey de los Judíos?”

10 F or he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy.

Porque sabía que los principales sacerdotes Lo habían entregado por envidia.

11 B ut the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas to them.

Pero los principales sacerdotes provocaron a la multitud para que le pidiera que en vez de Jesús les soltara a Barrabás.

12 P ilate answered and said to them again, “What then do you want me to do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?”

Pilato les preguntó: “¿Qué haré, entonces, con el que ustedes llaman el Rey de los Judíos?”

13 S o they cried out again, “Crucify Him!”

Ellos le respondieron a gritos: “¡Crucifícalo!”

14 T hen Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify Him!”

Y Pilato les decía: “¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho?” Y ellos gritaban aún más: “¡Crucifícalo!”

15 S o Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged Him, to be crucified. The Soldiers Mock Jesus

Pilato, queriendo complacer a la multitud, les soltó a Barrabás; y después de hacer azotar a Jesús, Lo entregó para que fuera crucificado. Los Soldados se Burlan de Jesús

16 T hen the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison.

Entonces los soldados llevaron a Jesús dentro del palacio, es decir, al Pretorio, y convocaron a toda la tropa Romana.

17 A nd they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head,

Lo vistieron de púrpura, y después de tejer una corona de espinas, se la pusieron;

18 a nd began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

y comenzaron a gritar: “¡Salve, Rey de los Judíos!”

19 T hen they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him.

Le golpeaban la cabeza con una caña y Le escupían, y poniéndose de rodillas, Le hacían reverencias.

20 A nd when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him. The King on a Cross

Después de haberse burlado de Jesús, Le quitaron el manto de púrpura, Le pusieron Sus ropas y Lo sacaron para que fuera crucificado.

21 T hen they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross.

Y obligaron a uno que pasaba y que venía del campo, Simón de Cirene, padre de Alejandro y Rufo, a que llevara la cruz de Jesús. La Crucifixión

22 A nd they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.

Lo llevaron al lugar llamado Gólgota, que traducido significa Lugar de la Calavera.

23 T hen they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He did not take it.

Trataron de dar a Jesús vino mezclado con mirra, pero El no lo tomó.

24 A nd when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take.

Cuando Lo crucificaron, se repartieron Sus vestidos, echando suertes sobre ellos para decidir lo que cada uno tomaría.

25 N ow it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.

Era la hora tercera (9 a. m.) cuando Lo crucificaron.

26 A nd the inscription of His accusation was written above: THE KING OF THE JEWS.

La inscripción de la acusación contra El decía: “EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS.”

27 W ith Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left.

Crucificaron con El a dos ladrones; uno a Su derecha y otro a Su izquierda.

28 S o the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with the transgressors.”

Y se cumplió la Escritura que dice: “Y con los transgresores fue contado.”

29 A nd those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days,

Los que pasaban Lo injuriaban, meneando la cabeza y diciendo: “¡Bah! Tú que destruyes el templo y en tres días lo reedificas,

30 s ave Yourself, and come down from the cross!”

¡sálvate a Ti mismo descendiendo de la cruz!”

31 L ikewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save.

De igual manera, también los principales sacerdotes junto con los escribas, burlándose de El entre ellos, decían: “A otros salvó, El mismo no se puede salvar.

32 L et the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him. Jesus Dies on the Cross

Que este Cristo, el Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz, para que veamos y creamos.” Y los que estaban crucificados con El también Lo insultaban. Muerte de Jesús

33 N ow when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

Cuando llegó la hora sexta (mediodía), hubo oscuridad sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena (3 p. m.).

34 A nd at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Y a la hora novena (3 p. m.) Jesús exclamó con fuerte voz: “ Eloi, Eloi, ¿lema sabactani ?” que traducido significa, “ Dios mio, Dios mio, ¿por que Me has abandonado ?”

35 S ome of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, “Look, He is calling for Elijah!”

Algunos de los que estaban allí, al oír lo, decían: “Miren, está llamando a Elías.”

36 T hen someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.”

Entonces uno corrió y empapó una esponja en vinagre, y poniéndola en una caña, dio a Jesús a beber, diciendo: “Dejen, veamos si Elías Lo viene a bajar.”

37 A nd Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.

Pero Jesús, dando un fuerte grito, expiró.

38 T hen the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

Y el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo.

39 S o when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”

Viendo el centurión que estaba frente a El, la manera en que expiró, dijo: “En verdad este hombre era Hijo de Dios.”

40 T here were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome,

Había también unas mujeres mirando de lejos, entre las que estaban María Magdalena, María, la madre de Jacobo (Santiago) el menor y de José, y Salomé,

41 w ho also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem. Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb

las cuales cuando Jesús estaba en Galilea, Lo seguían y Le servían; y había muchas otras que habían subido con El a Jerusalén. Sepultura de Jesús

42 N ow when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,

Ya al atardecer, como era el día de la preparación, es decir, la víspera del día de reposo,

43 J oseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

vino José de Arimatea, miembro prominente del Concilio (Sanedrín), que también esperaba el reino de Dios; y llenándose de valor, entró adonde estaba Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.

44 P ilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time.

Pilato se sorprendió de que ya hubiera muerto, y llamando al centurión, le preguntó si ya estaba muerto.

45 S o when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.

Y al comprobar esto por medio del centurión, le concedió el cuerpo a José,

46 T hen he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

quien compró un lienzo de lino, y bajando el cuerpo de la cruz, Lo envolvió en el lienzo de lino y Lo puso en un sepulcro que había sido excavado en la roca; e hizo rodar una piedra a la entrada del sepulcro.

47 A nd Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.

Y María Magdalena y María, la madre de José, miraban para saber dónde Lo ponían.
