1 N ow the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him,

Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: “Preséntate a Faraón, porque Yo he endurecido su corazón y el corazón de sus siervos, para mostrar estas señales Mías en medio de ellos,

2 a nd that you may tell in the hearing of your son and your son’s son the mighty things I have done in Egypt, and My signs which I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.”

y para que cuentes a tu hijo y a tu nieto, cómo Me he burlado de los Egipcios, y cómo he mostrado Mis señales entre ellos, y para que ustedes sepan que Yo soy el Señor.”

3 S o Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

Moisés y Aarón fueron a Faraón, y le dijeron: “Así dice el Señor, el Dios de los Hebreos: ‘¿Hasta cuándo rehusarás humillarte delante de Mí ? Deja ir a Mi pueblo, para que Me sirva.

4 O r else, if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.

Porque si te niegas a dejar ir a Mi pueblo, entonces mañana traeré langostas a tu territorio.

5 A nd they shall cover the face of the earth, so that no one will be able to see the earth; and they shall eat the residue of what is left, which remains to you from the hail, and they shall eat every tree which grows up for you out of the field.

Cubrirán la superficie de la tierra, de modo que nadie podrá ver el suelo. También comerán el resto de lo que ha escapado, lo que les ha quedado del granizo, y comerán todo árbol que crece para ustedes en el campo.

6 T hey shall fill your houses, the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians—which neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’” And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.

Llenarán tus casas, las casas de todos tus siervos y las casas de todos los Egipcios, algo que ni tus padres ni tus abuelos han visto desde el día que vinieron al mundo hasta hoy.’” Moisés se volvió y salió de la presencia de Faraón.

7 T hen Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt is destroyed?”

Y los siervos de Faraón le dijeron: “¿Hasta cuándo este hombre nos será causa de ruina ? Deje ir a los hombres para que sirvan al Señor su Dios. ¿No se da cuenta de que Egipto está destruido?”

8 S o Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve the Lord your God. Who are the ones that are going?”

Entonces hicieron volver a Moisés y Aarón ante Faraón, y él les dijo: “Vayan, sirvan al Señor su Dios. ¿Quiénes son los que han de ir?”

9 A nd Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we will go, for we must hold a feast to the Lord.”

Y Moisés respondió: “Iremos con nuestros jóvenes y nuestros ancianos; con nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas; con nuestras ovejas y nuestras vacas iremos, porque hemos de celebrar una fiesta solemne al Señor.”

10 T hen he said to them, “The Lord had better be with you when I let you and your little ones go! Beware, for evil is ahead of you.

“¡Así sea el Señor con ustedes,” les dijo Faraón, “si los dejo ir a ustedes y a sus pequeños! Tengan cuidado porque tienen malas intenciones.

11 N ot so! Go now, you who are men, and serve the Lord, for that is what you desired.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.

No será así. Vayan ahora sólo ustedes los hombres, y sirvan al Señor, porque eso es lo que han pedido.” Y los echaron de la presencia de Faraón.

12 T hen the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land—all that the hail has left.”

Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: “Extiende tu mano sobre la tierra de Egipto, para traer la langosta, a fin de que suba sobre la tierra de Egipto y devore toda planta de la tierra, todo lo que el granizo ha dejado.”

13 S o Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind on the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

Moisés extendió su vara sobre la tierra de Egipto, y el Señor hizo soplar un viento del oriente sobre el país todo aquel día y toda aquella noche. Y al venir la mañana, el viento del oriente trajo las langostas.

14 A nd the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt and rested on all the territory of Egypt. They were very severe; previously there had been no such locusts as they, nor shall there be such after them.

Subieron las langostas sobre toda la tierra de Egipto y se asentaron en todo el territorio de Egipto. Eran muy numerosas. Nunca había habido tantas langostas como entonces, ni las habría después.

15 F or they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. So there remained nothing green on the trees or on the plants of the field throughout all the land of Egypt.

Porque cubrieron la superficie de toda la tierra, y la tierra se oscureció. Se comieron toda planta de la tierra y todo el fruto de los árboles que el granizo había dejado. Así que nada verde quedó en árbol o planta del campo por toda la tierra de Egipto.

16 T hen Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you.

Entonces Faraón llamó apresuradamente a Moisés y a Aarón, y dijo: “He pecado contra el Señor su Dios y contra ustedes.

17 N ow therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and entreat the Lord your God, that He may take away from me this death only.”

Ahora pues, les ruego que perdonen mi pecado sólo esta vez, y que rueguen al Señor su Dios, para que quite de mí esta muerte.”

18 S o he went out from Pharaoh and entreated the Lord.

Moisés salió de la presencia de Faraón y oró al Señor.

19 A nd the Lord turned a very strong west wind, which took the locusts away and blew them into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the territory of Egypt.

Y el Señor cambió el viento a un viento occidental muy fuerte que se llevó las langostas y las arrojó al Mar Rojo. Ni una langosta quedó en todo el territorio de Egipto.

20 B ut the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go. The Ninth Plague: Darkness

Pero el Señor endureció el corazón de Faraón, y éste no dejó ir a los Israelitas. Novena Plaga: Las Tinieblas

21 T hen the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, darkness which may even be felt.”

Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: “Extiende tu mano hacia el cielo, para que haya tinieblas sobre la tierra de Egipto, tinieblas tales que puedan tocarse.”

22 S o Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.

Extendió Moisés su mano hacia el cielo, y hubo densas tinieblas en toda la tierra de Egipto por tres días.

23 T hey did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

No se veían unos a otros, nadie se levantó de su lugar por tres días, pero todos los Israelitas tenían luz en sus moradas.

24 T hen Pharaoh called to Moses and said, “Go, serve the Lord; only let your flocks and your herds be kept back. Let your little ones also go with you.”

Entonces llamó Faraón a Moisés y le dijo: “Vayan, sirvan al Señor. Sólo que sus ovejas y sus vacas queden aquí. Aun sus pequeños pueden ir con ustedes.”

25 B ut Moses said, “You must also give us sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.

Pero Moisés contestó: “Tú también tienes que darnos sacrificios y holocaustos para que los sacrifiquemos al Señor nuestro Dios.

26 O ur livestock also shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind. For we must take some of them to serve the Lord our God, and even we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.”

Por tanto, también nuestros ganados irán con nosotros. Ni una pezuña quedará atrás, porque de ellos tomaremos para servir al Señor nuestro Dios. Nosotros mismos no sabemos con qué hemos de servir al Señor hasta que lleguemos allá.”

27 B ut the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go.

Pero el Señor endureció el corazón de Faraón, y éste no quiso dejarlos ir.

28 T hen Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Take heed to yourself and see my face no more! For in the day you see my face you shall die!”

Entonces Faraón dijo a Moisés: “¡Apártate de mí! Cuídate de volver a ver mi rostro, porque el día en que veas mi rostro morirás.”

29 S o Moses said, “You have spoken well. I will never see your face again.”

“Bien has dicho, no volveré a ver tu rostro,” respondió Moisés.
