1 N ow after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;

Sei giorni dopo Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni suo fratello, e li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte.

2 a nd He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

E fu trasfigurato davanti a loro; la sua faccia risplendette come il sole e i suoi vestiti divennero candidi come la luce.

3 A nd behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

E apparvero loro Mosè ed Elia che stavano conversando con lui.

4 T hen Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

E Pietro prese a dire a Gesù: «Signore, è bene che stiamo qui; se vuoi, farò qui tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia».

5 W hile he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”

Mentre egli parlava ancora, una nuvola luminosa li coprì con la sua ombra, ed ecco una voce dalla nuvola che diceva: «Questo è il mio Figlio diletto, nel quale mi sono compiaciuto; ascoltatelo».

6 A nd when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid.

I discepoli, udito ciò, caddero con la faccia a terra e furono presi da gran timore.

7 B ut Jesus came and touched them and said, “Arise, and do not be afraid.”

Ma Gesù, avvicinatosi, li toccò e disse: «Alzatevi, non temete».

8 W hen they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.

Ed essi, alzati gli occhi, non videro nessuno, se non Gesù stesso, solo.

9 N ow as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

Poi, mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesù diede loro quest’ordine: «Non parlate a nessuno di questa visione, finché il Figlio dell’uomo sia risuscitato dai morti».

10 A nd His disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

E i discepoli gli domandarono: «Perché dunque gli scribi dicono che prima deve venire Elia?»

11 J esus answered and said to them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and will restore all things.

Egli rispose: «Certo, Elia deve venire e ristabilire ogni cosa.

12 B ut I say to you that Elijah has come already, and they did not know him but did to him whatever they wished. Likewise the Son of Man is also about to suffer at their hands.”

Ma io vi dico: Elia è già venuto e non l’hanno riconosciuto; anzi, gli hanno fatto tutto quello che hanno voluto; così anche il Figlio dell’uomo deve soffrire da parte loro».

13 T hen the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist. A Boy Is Healed

Allora i discepoli capirono che egli aveva parlato loro di Giovanni il battista. Guarigione di un ragazzo indemoniato

14 A nd when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying,

Quando tornarono tra la folla, un uomo gli si avvicinò, gettandosi in ginocchio davanti a lui,

15 “ Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.

e gli disse: «Signore, abbi pietà di mio figlio, perché è epilettico e soffre molto; spesso, infatti, cade nel fuoco e spesso nell’acqua.

16 S o I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”

L’ho condotto dai tuoi discepoli, ma non l’hanno potuto guarire».

17 T hen Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.”

Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa! Fino a quando sarò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Portatelo qui da me».

18 A nd Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.

Gesù sgridò il demonio e quello uscì dal ragazzo, che da quel momento fu guarito.

19 T hen the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

Allora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesù in disparte, gli chiesero: «Perché non l’abbiamo potuto cacciare noi?»

20 S o Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Egli rispose loro: «A causa della vostra poca fede; perché in verità io vi dico che se avete fede quanto un granello di senape, potrete dire a questo monte: “Passa da qui a là”, e passerà; e niente vi sarà impossibile.

21 H owever, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Jesus Again Predicts His Death and Resurrection

Gesù predice per la seconda volta la Passione

22 N ow while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,

Mentre essi erano riuniti insieme in Galilea, Gesù disse loro: «Il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini;

23 a nd they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.” And they were exceedingly sorrowful. Peter and His Master Pay Their Taxes

essi lo uccideranno e il terzo giorno risusciterà». Ed essi ne furono molto rattristati. Gesù paga la tassa nel tempio

24 W hen they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, “Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?”

Quando furono giunti a Capernaum, quelli che riscuotevano le didramme si avvicinarono a Pietro e dissero: «Il vostro maestro non paga le didramme?»

25 H e said, “Yes.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?”

Egli rispose: «Sì». Quando fu entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne e gli disse: «Che te ne pare, Simone? I re della terra da chi prendono i tributi o l’imposta? Dai loro figli o dagli stranieri?»

26 P eter said to Him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free.

«Dagli stranieri», rispose Pietro. Gesù gli disse: «I figli, dunque, ne sono esenti.

27 N evertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.”

Ma, per non scandalizzarli, va’ al mare, getta l’amo e prendi il primo pesce che verrà su. Aprigli la bocca: troverai uno statère. Prendilo e dàllo loro per me e per te».
